Nex Playground is a camera-based motion-gaming console built for quick, shared play in front of a TV. It may suit families who want movement games without handing each player a controller; whether it is worth the price depends on how well its games fit your household and whether you need Play Pass for the catalog you want. Nex’s product page displayed $299 USD on October 8, 2026, while a TechRadar review listed a $249 MSRP in December 2025—a dated difference that makes checking the live price essential.
What Nex Playground is—and how play works
Nex describes Playground as an active-play game system that connects to a television through HDMI. Its product page lists a wide-angle camera, a Nex AI-powered motion engine, PlayOS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. Nex markets it as controller-free and says up to four people can play. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not independently verified performance guarantees.
Instead of pressing buttons on handheld controllers, players move in front of the camera and the system responds to their movement. Nex pitches the experience for shared family play, with sports, adventures, dance, workouts and other game types. It also promotes games based on family franchises. The actual fit will come down to the ages in your household, which kinds of games everyone enjoys, and whether there is enough open space in front of the TV.
What the review evidence says
TechRadar’s review, published December 17, 2025, described the system as approachable and focused on active family play. The reviewer also reported technical limitations and said the Play Pass model would not suit everyone. Those conclusions reflect TechRadar’s experience; they should not be mistaken for a claim that motion tracking will work equally well in every room or for every family.
#1 Best Overall
- 5 GAMES INCLUDED. UNLOCK MORE WITH PLAY PASS. Playground comes with Fruit Ninja, Starri, Whac-a-Mole, Go Keeper, and Party Fowl. A separate purchase of a 3-Month ($49) or 12-Month Play Pass ($89) is required to access the full catalog of games and get new games each month, including Barbie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, How to Train Your Dragon, Peppa Pig, Care Bears, Elmo, Miraculous Ladybug, Gabby's Dollhouse, Kung Fu Panda and more.
- GET MOVING WITH ACTIVE FAMILY FUN. Nex Playground is a new kind of video game console that gets your family moving. It easily connects to your TV, transforming your living room into an active play space. Within minutes, your family will be playing Fruit Ninja, Whac-a-Mole and more. Using a built-in camera to track motion and natural body movements, anyone in the family can jump right in.
- JUST USE YOUR BODY TO PLAY. Play naturally just by moving your body. Playground uses the magic of AI to follow your movements using the built-in wide-angle camera. No controllers or clunky trackers! Up to 4 players can play at the same time, so everyone can get moving together.
- GAMES YOU'LL LOVE MOVING TO. Playground is packed with interactive motion games, turning your living room into an arcade, theme park, gym, and more. There is something for everyone. It is perfect for indoor family game night, after school activities, or a playdate with friends.
- EASY SET UP. Playground connects to your TV or projector with a simple HDMI connection and gets everyone in on the fun. It's small and sits elegantly on any console or mantle, and can easily fit in a backpack for playdates and more. From ages 5 and up—Playground is the life of every party.
The strongest case for Playground is convenience: a group can start moving together without distributing controllers or learning a complicated setup. The trade-off is that the experience depends on camera-based play and on a catalog of games that may feel narrower than what players expect from a conventional console. If your household wants deep, long-running games or a broad range of genres, check the current game list rather than assuming the family positioning means it will satisfy every player.
Price, Play Pass, and the real first-year cost
Nex’s product page displayed a price of $299 USD on October 8, 2026. TechRadar reported a $249 MSRP in its December 17, 2025 review, which is a historical reference, not a current quote. Check Nex’s listing or the retailer before buying because displayed prices can change.
Rank #2

- Includes 5 free games (Fruit Ninja, Starri, Whac-a-Mole, Go Keeper, and Party Fowl) with access to 30+ more games through Play Pass subscription.
- Play with beloved characters including Barbie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Peppa Pig, Elmo, Miraculous Ladybug, Gabby's Dollhouse, and Kung Fu Panda.
- Easy setup with simple HDMI connection to your TV or projector, compact design fits on any console or mantle, and portable enough for playdates.
- Get new content and seasonal updates every month, offering year-round entertainment across various genres from dance to fitness to sports.
Nex says Play Pass unlocks the full catalog and provides new content and updates monthly. The reviewed pages did not establish a current Play Pass price, so don’t assume a subscription amount or that every game requires the pass. Before purchasing, identify the games your family wants, confirm whether they are included with the console or require Play Pass, and check the current plan terms.
To evaluate the value, add the console price to any pass cost you would actually need for the games you plan to play. Then ask how often the household is likely to use it. A system that becomes a regular part of family game nights can justify more than one used only occasionally; the same total cost can feel very different depending on use.

Check the connection, space, and seller before buying
- TV connection: Nex says the console connects over HDMI and that an HDMI cable is included. Make sure your setup has an available HDMI input.
- Room layout: Because play is camera-based, plan for a clear area in front of the television. The reviewed materials do not establish a universal room-size or tracking-performance guarantee.
- Players and ages: Nex advertises support for up to four players and a broad age range. Look at the actual games and decide whether their play styles suit the people who will use the system.
- Seller and warranty: Nex lists Amazon and other authorized US sellers. Its Help Center says warranty coverage requires a new purchase from an authorized seller; resale, open-box and third-party marketplace purchases are excluded. On a marketplace listing, verify the seller itself rather than relying on the marketplace name.
Who is Nex Playground for?
A reasonable fit
- Families seeking quick, group-oriented movement games to play together in the living room.
- Households whose preferred genres and ages align with the current Playground catalog.
- Buyers who have enough open space near the TV and are comfortable evaluating the console together with any catalog subscription they may want.
Think twice if
- You want extensive game depth or a wide selection beyond family-oriented motion play.
- You are wary of recurring costs and the specific games you want depend on Play Pass.
- Your TV area cannot accommodate movement in front of a camera, or you expect motion tracking to work without checking the fit of your room.
- You are buying through resale, open-box, or an unverified marketplace seller and expect Nex’s stated new-purchase warranty coverage.
Nex Playground’s appeal is easy to understand: it is designed to get several people moving and playing together with minimal controller friction. The “gimmick” concern is whether that novelty turns into a regular habit—and whether the available games and any pass cost earn a lasting place in your family’s routine. Compare the current game catalog and total first-year cost against how your household actually likes to play before deciding.
