What is Nex Playground?
Nex Playground is a cube-shaped console that uses a camera to read players’ body movements as game input. It is aimed at family and child-oriented play, making it a different proposition from consoles built primarily around traditional controllers.
The console includes five starter games. Access to a broader game selection is associated with Play Pass, but the reviewed coverage does not establish current subscription pricing, the complete catalog, or availability by region. Check the terms shown for your country before counting subscription access as part of the console’s value.
What does the Black Friday ranking actually mean?
The Verge reported on December 11, 2025, that Nex Playground ranked third among home consoles during Black Friday week, behind Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. The report attributed the sales data to a post shared by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella. It did not provide unit counts or methodology, so the ranking is best understood as a reported result for that category and week—not evidence that Nex outsold Xbox throughout the holiday season, across all markets, or over a longer period. Is it a fit for your household?
Nex Playground is worth considering if the appeal is movement-based group play and a console that does not make a conventional controller the main way to play. If you want a particular game library, compare the five included starter games with what you expect to play and verify whether the games you want require Play Pass.
There is not enough in the reviewed coverage for a controlled performance comparison or a complete feature-by-feature verdict against Xbox, Switch 2, or PS5. The useful distinction for a buyer is the play style: camera-based motion input here, versus the controller-led experience typical of those platforms. Work out the console price plus any subscription access you actually need rather than treating a broader catalog as automatically included.
