It comes with five games, according to recent coverage, while a Play Pass subscription unlocks a larger catalogue. It may suit younger children who want to move around while playing, but “child-proof” is not a verified safety or durability rating—and it is not a universal replacement for Nintendo Switch 2.
What is the Nex Playground?
Nex Playground is a compact cube-shaped console with a built-in camera. Instead of holding a standard gamepad, players move in front of a TV while the camera tracks their bodies. T3 reported dimensions of three inches on each side and recognition of up to four players; those figures are from T3’s October 5, 2026 coverage, not a durability or performance test. (T3)
TechRadar described setup as easy and said the device adapted to placement on a shelf in a TV stand, based on the author’s own use. That is an attributed experience rather than a guarantee that every room or TV setup will work equally well. (TechRadar)
What games come with it, and what does Play Pass add?
TechRadar and T3 each reported five included games in 2026. T3 named Fruit Ninja, Starri, Whac-a-Mole, Go Keeper, and Party Fowl. Check the current listing and box contents before buying, since bundles can change. (TechRadar; T3)
#1 Best Overall
- 5 GAMES INCLUDED. UNLOCK MORE WITH PLAY PASS. Playground comes with Fruit Ninja, Starri, Whac-a-Mole, Go Keeper, and Party Fowl. A separate purchase of a 3-Month ($49) or 12-Month Play Pass ($89) is required to access the full catalog of games and get new games each month, including Barbie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, How to Train Your Dragon, Peppa Pig, Care Bears, Elmo, Miraculous Ladybug, Gabby's Dollhouse, Kung Fu Panda and more.
- GET MOVING WITH ACTIVE FAMILY FUN. Nex Playground is a new kind of video game console that gets your family moving. It easily connects to your TV, transforming your living room into an active play space. Within minutes, your family will be playing Fruit Ninja, Whac-a-Mole and more. Using a built-in camera to track motion and natural body movements, anyone in the family can jump right in.
- JUST USE YOUR BODY TO PLAY. Play naturally just by moving your body. Playground uses the magic of AI to follow your movements using the built-in wide-angle camera. No controllers or clunky trackers! Up to 4 players can play at the same time, so everyone can get moving together.
- GAMES YOU'LL LOVE MOVING TO. Playground is packed with interactive motion games, turning your living room into an arcade, theme park, gym, and more. There is something for everyone. It is perfect for indoor family game night, after school activities, or a playdate with friends.
- EASY SET UP. Playground connects to your TV or projector with a simple HDMI connection and gets everyone in on the fun. It's small and sits elegantly on any console or mantle, and can easily fit in a backpack for playdates and more. From ages 5 and up—Playground is the life of every party.
Play Pass is the subscription route to a larger game catalogue. The reported catalogue size differs: TechRadar said more than 50 games at the time of its June 23, 2026 article, while T3 described more than 60 in October 2026. These are dated descriptions, not a guaranteed current count. (TechRadar; T3)
For a child eager to play more than the included titles, the subscription is part of the decision, not an optional detail to overlook. T3 reported UK prices of £45 for three months and £90 for one year on October 5, 2026; current regional plans and terms may differ. (T3)

Nex Playground vs. Nintendo Switch 2
| Factor | Nex Playground | Nintendo Switch 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Play style | Camera-based motion play, aimed at active family play. (Nex) | Traditional console play, according to TechRadar. (TechRadar) |
| Controls | Players move in front of the camera rather than using a conventional gamepad. (T3) | TechRadar describes a more conventional console experience; exact controls vary by game. (TechRadar) |
| Game choice | Five included titles were reported by TechRadar and T3; Play Pass expands the catalogue. (TechRadar; T3) | TechRadar characterizes Switch 2 as having a wider range of games. (TechRadar) |
| Portability | Compact cube; portability beyond the console itself depends on setup and accessories. A TechRadar-reported bundle included a travel case, but current bundle availability and contents should be checked. (TechRadar) | Supports TV and portable play, according to TechRadar. (TechRadar) |
| Online and parental controls | TechRadar reports no online games, in-game purchases, loot boxes, or ads; an internet connection is needed to download games initially. (TechRadar) | TechRadar says online chat and multiplayer can be restricted with parental controls. (TechRadar) |
| Ongoing cost | Play Pass adds subscription cost for access to a larger catalogue; the reported UK prices and catalogue counts are time-sensitive. (T3) | Not stated in the cited comparison. (TechRadar) |
Choose based on how your child actually wants to play. Playground is the more focused option if the appeal is movement-based games shared in front of a TV. Switch 2 makes more sense if you want portable play, a broader selection of games, or the online features TechRadar describes. Neither choice is made automatically right by a “kid-friendly” label.
Is the Nex Playground child-proof?
“Child-proof” should be read as promotional shorthand, not as a tested guarantee. TechRadar describes a privacy lid over the camera, and T3 also reports a camera cover. The reviewed material does not establish drop resistance or a formal child-proofing certification. (TechRadar; T3)

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it really a Prime Day bestseller?
A past bestseller claim should not be treated as a current sales ranking. TechRadar reported that the Playground briefly outsold other consoles on Amazon during Black Friday, but its article did not provide an underlying sales dataset, exact period, or total. That report does not establish a Prime Day rank or ongoing bestseller status. (TechRadar)
