Nexus Mods announced an ownership change on June 16, 2025, after nearly 24 years under founder Robin Scott, known as Dark0ne. Scott said burnout and stress-related health issues had led him to step back from day-to-day management, but he planned to remain involved in guiding the site’s overall direction. The announcement is historical: it did not describe a sale announced in 2026.
Why did Robin Scott step back?
Scott said he started the project in 2001 in his bedroom to give modders a place to preserve and share their work. It grew into Nexus Mods and, in his words, became his entire adult life. He described the constant responsibility of running the site and being on call as taking a toll on his health and affecting the staff.
In his June 16, 2025 announcement, Scott wrote: “I realised that I have been burning out and this started to have an impact on my staff and Nexus Mods as a whole.” He framed the change as a way to look after himself and bring in new leadership, not as a departure from the community or a sudden abandonment of the site. Who took over Nexus Mods?
Scott named Foledinho (Victor), Rapsak (Marinus), and Taagen (Nikolai) as the people readers would see leading the next chapter. His original announcement did not name the buyer organization. Windows Central’s June 17, 2025 follow-up identified the new owners as Chosen, citing the pinned Q&A and its reporting; that identification should not be confused with the original post naming the individuals. Scott said the team of 40 would remain and that staff had already taken on more responsibility in preceding years. The headcount is Scott’s description in the announcement, not an independently audited figure. The announcement and the contemporary coverage cited here do not disclose the sale price or transaction terms.
Is Robin Scott leaving Nexus Mods completely?
No. Scott said ownership had changed hands and he would no longer sign off on every small decision, but he would continue helping guide the site’s overall direction. He described the transition as a change in day-to-day leadership rather than a total severing of ties.

What did the new owners say about mods, accounts, and ads?
In pinned answers attached to the June 2025 announcement, the incoming owners said mods would remain free, creators would continue to own their uploads, free-account restrictions would not change, and Lifetime Premium would remain valid. They also said they did not plan to change the core monetization model, rejected paid mods and aggressive monetization, and hoped to reduce ads over time.
Those were commitments made during the transition, not independently verified guarantees of current policy. The incoming owner Foledinho (Victor) wrote, “No. Mods will always remain free,” and said, “No aggressive monetization. No paid mods. If anything, we’re aiming for fewer ads, not more.” Scott described Nexus Mods as community-first and mod-author focused; the incoming owners’ statements addressed users’ concerns about how that would be maintained.
