What the published NHL 25 ratings show
EA’s current Wheels ratings page lists Connor McDavid at 97 OVR among players with that ability. EA’s Send It ratings page lists Cale Makar at 95 OVR and Quinn Hughes at 94 OVR.

These figures are in-game ratings published by EA, not independent measures of the players’ real-world ability. Because each page is filtered by an ability, it should not be read as a full roster ranking. The pages are undated and may change, so the values describe what EA’s pages list when consulted, not necessarily an original launch-day snapshot.
Was this the first ratings announcement?
EA’s official sources do not establish a standalone, dated announcement matching “First NHL 25 Player Ratings Announced.” The current ability pages confirm the ratings above, but they do not show when those values were first revealed. It would be inaccurate to present them as the first ratings announcement or as a complete list of the first players rated.

What EA announced about NHL 25’s launch
In its August 22, 2024 launch announcement, EA said NHL 25 would release worldwide on October 4, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The release also named Quinn, Jack and Luke Hughes as the game’s cover athletes. It focused on the game’s launch and ICE-Q gameplay system, rather than announcing a first player-ratings list.
How HUT card tiers differ from player ratings
Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) uses card tiers to group player items by OVR. EA’s NHL 25 HUT Deep Dive gives these thresholds:

These are HUT item categories, not universal labels for every NHL 25 rating or a separate ranking of players. EA also published launch-period HUT items and event information in its Season 1 Deep Dive.
