Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach has mixed reviews from critics, with technical problems and design issues tempering praise for its larger, exploration-focused setting. On the PC critic page, Metacritic lists a 64 Metascore from five reviews; Steam’s user-review snapshot is more positive, but those are different kinds of ratings. The short Nintendo Switch critic sample is also mixed.
What kind of game is Security Breach?
Released on December 16, 2021, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is a single-player horror game developed by Steel Wool Studios and published by ScottGames. You play as Gregory, trapped overnight in Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex, with Freddy’s help. The game puts more emphasis on navigating and exploring a large 3D environment than a confined setting: cameras, stealth, hiding, distractions, and evading pursuers are central activities. Steam’s product listing describes those mechanics and the game’s PC requirements.
What do critics say about Security Breach?
PC reviews: an ambitious expansion with a mixed verdict
Metacritic lists a 64 Metascore, labeled “Mixed or Average,” based on five PC critic reviews. Those reviews were published between December 24, 2021, and January 30, 2022; the score and sample size are from the page accessed October 8, 2026. Positive or mixed assessments recognize the expanded 3D approach, new characters, exploration, and variety. The recurring reservations are bugs, technical performance, and design problems.
GamingTrend’s PC review, dated January 20, 2022, described the added variety alongside the drawbacks: “While offering a lot more varied content from previous installments, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is unfortunately riddled with a myriad of technical and design issues.” Metacritic’s PC critic page attributes the statement to the publication.

Nintendo Switch reviews: exploration and portability, with a performance caveat
Metacritic lists just two Switch critic reviews: Pocket Tactics rated it 80 on October 30, 2023, and Nintenduo rated it 72 on April 20, 2023. The reviews point to exploration, boss fights, and jump scares as strengths, while Nintenduo also notes performance issues. Its review says the game can still be enjoyed as a portable experience despite those concerns. With only two reviews, this sample cannot establish a reliable overall platform ranking. Metacritic’s Switch critic page lists the scores and review dates.
How do player ratings compare with critic scores?
Steam’s storefront showed 85% positive among 37,353 English-language reviews and 84% positive among 312 recent reviews when accessed October 8, 2026. These are changing recommendation percentages from Steam users, not critic scores or a fixed consensus; the review totals and percentages can change. The contrast with the PC Metascore indicates different reception in these particular samples, not that one rating system settles whether the game is good. Steam’s live listing displays the user-review snapshot.
Rank #2
Metacritic also listed a 5.9 user score from 806 user ratings on the title page accessed October 8, 2026. That score is based on a different rating system and audience from Steam’s positive-review percentage, so the figures should not be compared as if they shared a scale. Metacritic’s title page shows its platform list and user score.
Is Security Breach worth playing?
It is most likely to appeal if you want a larger environment to explore, enjoy stealth and chase sequences, and are interested in the series’ animatronic characters. The same expanded scope is part of the trade-off: the PC reviews praise exploration and variety but repeatedly raise technical and design concerns. If you are sensitive to performance problems, treat the platform-specific caveats seriously rather than assuming one edition is trouble-free.
