Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered reviewed favorably overall. Metacritic’s captured Nintendo Switch critic page lists an 84/100 from 23 reviews, while its original-game listing shows an 85/100 from 89 reviews. Those figures refer to different listings, so the original-game score should not be treated as the Remastered score on every platform.
How did critics rate Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered?
Metacritic’s October 8, 2026 snapshot of its Nintendo Switch critic page gives the game an 84 Metascore from 23 critic reviews. The page classifies 20 reviews as positive, three as mixed, and none as negative. That distribution indicates a broadly favorable reception among the reviews represented on that specific page.
Metacritic’s separate original-game listing shows an 85 Metascore from 89 critic reviews and labels it “Generally Favorable.” Because that listing is for the original game rather than a platform-specific Remastered page, it is useful context but not a score that can be assigned to every Remastered release.
| Metacritic listing | Score and review count | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Original game | 85/100 from 89 critic reviews | Metacritic original-game listing captured October 8, 2026 |
| Nintendo Switch | 84/100 from 23 critic reviews | Metacritic Nintendo Switch critic page captured October 8, 2026; 20 positive, 3 mixed, 0 negative |
These are aggregator snapshots, not permanent ratings; review totals and scores can change. The available figures do not establish a complete score comparison across all Remastered platforms.

What did critics respond to most positively?
The favorable commentary surfaced on Metacritic’s Switch page highlights the game’s design, music, and story. Together, those qualities underpin its appeal as a story-led Japanese role-playing game with a distinctive presentation. Steam’s storefront tags also describe it as a JRPG, story rich, single-player, and turn-based, among other categories; those are store descriptors, not critic findings.
What might put players off?
Grinding is a notable qualification in the surfaced review commentary: some players may find progression requires more repeated battles than they want. That drawback does not mean every critic objected to the pacing, but it is worth weighing if you prefer RPGs that move quickly through combat and character development.

Which platforms and release dates do these reviews refer to?
Bandai Namco announced the Remastered version for PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch on September 16, 2019. Steam lists September 19, 2019 as the PC release date. The 84 Metascore above is specifically for the Nintendo Switch critic page; do not infer an equivalent score for PS4 or PC from the original-game listing.
Bandai Namco’s America page announced on September 15, 2022 that the game was then available with Xbox Game Pass. That dated announcement does not confirm that the game remains in the subscription catalog today.
