The trade-off is a presentation that may feel thin for a Nickelodeon crossover: Nintendo Life singled out the lack of character voice acting, while other critics differed over its visuals, music, and originality. It is most appealing if the Nickelodeon cast is the draw and you want a kart racer with more to customize.
What did reviewers think?
Reviews from the game’s 2020 release period were mixed rather than unanimous. Nintendo Life’s Switch review emphasized improvements to the tracks and customizable power-ups, but criticized the absence of voice acting. Selected critic excerpts on Metacritic likewise vary: some praise the expanded mechanics, character choices, or modes, while others find the game derivative or fault its presentation. Those excerpts do not establish a consistent, comparable score across platforms, so they are best read as differing impressions rather than a single consensus.

What improved over the first game?
The clearest positive case in the available Switch review is that the sequel makes the racing itself more considered. Nintendo Life praised improved track design and the ability to customize power-ups, giving players more to engage with than simply choosing a character and driving. Its Grand Prix mode includes seven cups and three speed settings, offering a straightforward way to work through the races at different levels of challenge.
#1 Best Overall
- 30 playable racers and 70 crew members to choose from
- Tens of thousands of different all-star character combinations
- 28 tracks and 2 arenas
- Customizable Karts with multiple power-ups and special attacks
- ONLINE up to 8 players and 4-player Local Multi-Player
That is a meaningful upgrade in structure and options, but it does not erase the sequel’s presentation weaknesses. The lack of voice acting is particularly noticeable in a game whose strongest selling point is recognizable Nickelodeon characters. A crossover can have a broad roster and still feel less lively if the characters do not sound like themselves.
Who is it best for?
- Nickelodeon fans: The recognizable cast is the game’s clearest audience hook; the appeal depends in part on how much you value racing with those characters.
- Kart-racing players: The Switch review’s praise for track design and power-up customization makes the sequel more promising than its predecessor for players seeking extra racing options.
- Players who prioritize presentation: The voice-acting criticism, alongside other reviewers’ concerns about visuals, music, or identity, is a reason to temper expectations.
