CurseForge describes the project as a “Souls-like RPG modpack w/ Unique Story Line and Quest!” Its description also highlights a “Custom dialog and quest system with a complete storyline” and a “Souls-like Combat System with immersive tutoral.” The unusual spelling in that quoted feature description is retained from the project listing.
What kind of Minecraft experience is it?
A directed RPG rather than an open-ended kitchen-sink pack
The Casket of Reveries is built around a campaign. You are not simply collecting machines or expanding a conventional survival base; the central objectives are delivered through dialogue and quests, with bosses acting as major progression gates. Exploration still matters, but it serves the story’s sequence of objectives instead of replacing it.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The Watcher, sparks and the altar
The project describes the player as a savior from beyond who follows the guidance of the Watcher, defeats bosses, retrieves lost sparks and lights an altar before confronting the final boss. Those terms are useful navigation landmarks: when you are unsure what to do next, read the active dialogue and quest text for the next spark, boss or altar-related objective rather than treating every unexplored structure as the immediate goal.
Combat has a different rhythm
Epic Fight integration gives attacks, spacing and timing more importance than ordinary Minecraft click-and-retreat combat. The pack’s own tutorial is therefore part of progression, not optional flavor. Learn its movement and attack cues before attempting a boss, and treat an early defeat as information about positioning or equipment rather than as evidence that the world is broken.
Check these requirements before installing
Lock the Minecraft and Forge versions
- Use a profile whose Minecraft version is exactly 1.20.1.
- Use the Forge loader profile supplied for that 1.20.1 pack.
- Choose the listed 2.2.9.7 files if you are starting this guide on a new installation.
- Do not put the pack’s mods into a profile for another Minecraft version. CurseForge profiles with a different version are incompatible, even if the pack name appears in a search result.
The version number is part of the save’s compatibility decision. If you already have a world on an older release, record that release before updating and keep a backup; the newest files are not automatically the safest choice for an established campaign.
Meet the memory recommendation
P1nero’s project description recommends 8 GB or more of RAM. That is a recommendation for the computer running the game, not a promise that every machine with 8 GB installed will perform identically. The operating system, Java process and other applications also need memory. Close unnecessary applications, make sure the launcher is using the intended Java installation, and assign memory through the launcher’s profile settings without starving the operating system.
Leave storage and backup headroom
A modpack includes the loader, mods, configuration files, resource data and a growing world save. Leave room for the installation, generated chunks, logs and backups instead of filling a drive to its limit. Before changing versions, copy the entire instance or at least the saves, screenshots and configuration you care about. A backup made before the first launch is easier to restore than a damaged world after an interrupted update.

Install the client through CurseForge
The least error-prone route is to let the CurseForge Minecraft app create the profile, because it can keep the pack’s mod set and loader together.

- Open the Browse or modpack search area and search for The Casket of Reveries.
- Confirm that the result is the project by P1nero, not a similarly named custom profile.
- Open the project files or release selector and choose the current listed release, 2.2.9.7. The file is named
The Casket of Reveries -2.2.9.7.zipon the listed files page. - Install the pack and wait for the app to finish downloading the Forge profile and its dependencies.
- Open the new profile’s settings and verify that it reports Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge before pressing Play.
- Set the profile’s memory allocation in the launcher, keeping the project’s 8 GB-plus recommendation and the operating system’s needs in mind.
- Launch once, allow the instance to reach the title screen, then exit. This first run creates folders and exposes missing-file or Java errors before you invest time in a world.
If you received the ZIP rather than installing directly from the project page, use the app’s profile-import option and select that archive. Do not unzip individual mods into a different profile and assume the result is equivalent; the pack’s configuration and loader relationship are part of the installation.
Verify the profile before creating a world
- The profile name identifies The Casket of Reveries.
- The Minecraft entry says 1.20.1.
- The loader is Forge, not Fabric or a different Forge-era profile.
- The installed version corresponds to 2.2.9.7 if you intend to follow this guide exactly.
- The game reaches the main menu without a missing-mod or dependency screen.
Set up a multiplayer server
The files page lists a server package named Casket of Reveries 2.2.9.7 Server.zip. Use that matching server distribution for a 2.2.9.7 client rather than assembling a server by copying a random client folder.
- Download the server ZIP whose version matches the clients you will support.
- Extract it into a new, dedicated server directory with enough storage for the world and backups.
- Read the included instructions and use the supplied Forge launch script or command rather than substituting a different loader.
- Complete the normal server first-run requirements, including accepting Minecraft’s EULA where the server asks for it.
- Start the server once with no players connected so it can generate its configuration and world folders.
- Have every player install the same 1.20.1 Forge client release before joining.
The project documentation identifies a matching server ZIP, but it does not establish support for any particular commercial host. If you rent a server, confirm that the provider can run this exact Forge pack and lets you upload the supplied server files before paying for a plan.
Your first hours in the pack
Follow the Watcher and read the tutorial
Begin with the Watcher-directed dialogue and tutorial quests. Read each objective completely; a quest can explain a mechanic, identify a destination or provide the intended order for an encounter. Skipping dialogue may leave you with the impression that a boss, item or altar is missing when the story has simply not enabled that step yet.

Learn the combat system before testing a boss
Use safe encounters to practice the pack’s Epic Fight combat before committing to a major arena. Work on camera control, attack timing, recovery windows and retreating from a bad exchange. Carry the equipment and consumables that the current questing tier makes available, but do not assume that ordinary survival armor alone makes a story boss safe.
Treat bosses as objectives, not random mobs
Boss fights are tied to the campaign. If an encounter seems unusually strong or does not behave as expected, return to the active quest and dialogue chain before repeatedly forcing the fight. Progression may require a prior objective, a recovered spark or a story trigger.
Record important discoveries
Keep a short note of the current quest, the last spark recovered and any altar instruction. This is especially useful after a crash, a server restart or a long break, when the active objective may be less memorable than the location you explored.
How the main story progresses
The broad campaign loop described by the project can be read as a sequence of responsibilities:
- Accept the Watcher’s guidance. Use the initial dialogue and tutorial to learn what the world expects from you.
- Complete the early quest objectives. The custom quest system supplies the immediate tasks and story context.
- Challenge the appropriate bosses. Bosses are milestones in the campaign, so use the quest chain to determine when an encounter belongs to your current tier.
- Retrieve the lost sparks. Treat each spark as a progression item connected to the larger objective, not as an unrelated collectible.
- Light the altar. The altar is the campaign’s central preparation point in the project description; follow the quest text for the order and prerequisites it provides.
- Prepare for the final-boss sequence. Before entering the final stage, finish the active objectives and make a backup, particularly on a server where a failed attempt can affect several players.
- Challenge the final boss. The stated end goal is to defeat the final boss and save the world.
The project description gives this campaign summary: “In this modpack, you will play as a savior from beyond, heeding the guidance of the Watcher, defeating various bosses, retrieving the lost sparks, and lighting up the altar! Ultimately, challenge final boss to save the world!” The individual locations, rewards and encounter tactics can change between releases, so use the in-game quest text as the authority for your installed version.

Solo or multiplayer: choose the progression model first
| Play style | What it suits | Important consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | Independent choices, pacing and quest progression | Your story state is not dependent on another player’s availability. |
| Multiplayer without one shared FTB Party team | Friends who want to cooperate while preserving more independent progression | Coordinate carefully so players do not accidentally expect one shared quest state. |
| One shared FTB Party team | A group that intentionally wants one synchronized campaign | Main-quest progress and story choices are shared; an offline member can miss important items. |
The FTB Party warning
The project specifically does not recommend playing with a friend in the same FTB Party team when everyone needs an independent story. In that arrangement, main-quest progress is shared and story choices synchronize. A player who is offline when the team advances can miss important items. Decide before the first quest whether the party wants one canonical story state or separate progress.
A practical group agreement
- Choose one person to advance dialogue and make story choices if the team wants a shared campaign.
- Do not advance a main quest while a required teammate is offline unless the group accepts that player may miss an item.
- Tell new players which quest stage the server is on before they join.
- Back up the server world before a major boss or story transition.
These habits do not change the pack’s synchronization rules; they reduce surprises caused by those rules.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Updating without damaging a campaign
Version details change frequently. Recheck the CurseForge files page each time you install or update, and label your own notes with the exact release number. The currently listed 2.2.9.7 release is the reference point for this guide, but a newer file may alter quests or integrations.
The 2026 update history indicates changes involving translations, quests, boss spawning and Epic Fight integrations. Those categories can affect both the words you see and the conditions that make an encounter appear. Read the release notes when available, back up the world, and test an update on a copy before committing a long-running save.
Safe update sequence
- Write down the current client, server and world versions.
- Back up the world and the complete instance configuration.
- Check the files page for the target release and its matching server package, if applicable.
- Install the new release as a separate profile or server directory first.
- Open a copied world and check the quest book, dialogue, translations and boss-related progression.
- Only migrate the live world after the copied test behaves as expected.
Troubleshooting
The launcher says the profile is incompatible
Check the Minecraft version before changing anything else. A profile that is not 1.20.1 is incompatible with this pack’s stated target. Recreate or import the profile with the correct version instead of trying to repair it by adding individual mods.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The game crashes while loading
Confirm that you are using Forge and the complete pack release, not a mixture of files from another version. Compare the client to the listed 2.2.9.7 release, remove manually added mods, and test again with the pack’s original configuration. If the crash began after an update, test a backup copy on the previous release.
The game starts but runs out of memory
Check that the computer meets the project’s 8 GB-plus recommendation, close other memory-heavy programs and review the launcher’s allocation for this profile. If the machine has less physical memory than the recommendation, lowering visual settings may help responsiveness but does not change the underlying requirement.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A quest or dialogue appears to be missing
Confirm that the world and client use the same pack release, then reread the active objective and restart the game once. Since updates have changed translations and quests, compare the behavior on a copied world and consult the release notes before resetting progression.
A boss does not spawn or behaves differently
Check the quest prerequisites first. Boss spawning and Epic Fight integrations have changed in updates, so verify the installed release and test on a backup copy. Do not delete progression files or repeatedly regenerate the world until you have preserved the original save.
A friend missed an important item
Review whether the players were in the same FTB Party team when the main quest advanced. Shared progress and synchronized choices can move the story while an offline player is away. Restore a backup only if the group agrees that the lost item is essential; otherwise, record the current stage and keep the party together for subsequent objectives.
Current-release decision guide
- Starting a new world: use the currently listed 2.2.9.7 client and, for a server, its matching server ZIP.
- Continuing an older world: keep the old release backed up and test any update on a copy before migration.
- Playing alone: keep quest choices and pacing entirely under your control.
- Playing with friends: decide whether synchronized FTB Party progress is desirable before the first main quest.
- Running a server: match the server package, client Minecraft version and Forge profile exactly.
- Using a borderline computer: treat the project’s 8 GB-plus recommendation as a readiness check, not an optional performance tweak.
Launch checklist
- Confirm the files page’s current release number.
- Install a CurseForge profile for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
- Verify at least 8 GB of system RAM and leave storage for the instance, save and backups.
- Launch once to the main menu before creating the campaign world.
- Read the Watcher dialogue and tutorial quests.
- Agree on FTB Party progression rules before inviting friends.
- Back up the world before major boss encounters and before every version change.
With those checks complete, approach The Casket of Reveries as a campaign: let the Watcher and quest system establish your next objective, learn the combat before escalating encounters, and treat sparks, the altar and the final boss as connected stages of one story rather than unrelated Minecraft tasks.
