Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo launched on October 9, 2024, making October 9, 2026 its second anniversary. Two years of firmware updates and free themes have expanded the motion-sensing alarm clock well beyond its original feature set, but it remains a standalone bedside device—not a Nintendo Switch accessory.
What Nintendo Alarmo is—and what it is not
Alarmo is an interactive alarm clock that uses a motion sensor to respond to movement in bed. Nintendo’s launch description says you can snooze by moving and stop the alarm by getting out of bed. It does not connect to, control or exchange data with a Nintendo Switch or any other console; Nintendo describes it as a standalone product.

The update pattern matters more than any individual feature. Nintendo has continued to refine detection, scheduling and browsing instead of leaving the clock at its launch specification.

These are downloadable scenes, not games that run on the clock. Version 4.0.0’s title-first selector and Shuffle Favorites are designed to make a growing library easier to manage.
How the motion alarm behaves in a real bedroom
Alarmo is intended for standard bed sizes from Twin through King. Its sensor interprets movement around the bed, so the setup position and the selected bed-distance option affect reliability. The Check Sensor Zone tool can show an estimated movement position; the Queen and King options were specifically added in version 2.0.0.

Pets, fans and another person
Movement is not guaranteed to belong to the person who set the alarm. Nintendo warns that a pet or an electric fan inside the sensor range can be mistaken for the user’s movement and cause the alarm to continue. In that situation, press the clock’s dial to stop it. A second person sharing the bed can likewise create movement the sensor cannot distinguish as yours, so households should test the placement and behavior before relying on it for a fixed wake-up time.
Power, backup and setup requirements
- Alarmo requires USB power.
- Nintendo’s setup support says an AC adapter is not included.
- Use a USB Type-A-to-C adapter rated for at least 5 V, 1.5 A and 7.5 W.
- The manual specifies a non-replaceable CR2032 coin-cell backup battery.
The USB requirement means buyers need both a compatible power adapter and a suitable location near an outlet. The coin cell is a backup power component, not a replacement for the USB connection during normal use.
Wi-Fi, privacy and Nintendo Account features
Wi-Fi is used for internet time synchronization, Nintendo Account linking, free scene downloads and firmware updates. Nintendo’s FAQ states that no movement-related data is shared from Alarmo. The clock’s network functions therefore support maintenance and downloads; they are not described as a service that uploads movement records.

Is Alarmo worth it two years later?
It is most compelling for someone who wants a Nintendo-themed alarm that works without a phone or console and is willing to pay for a dedicated bedside object. The free scene additions and four firmware releases give a 2026 buyer more variety and control than the launch model had, including weekday scheduling, improved detection tools and easier scene management.

It is a weaker fit if you want a conventional inexpensive alarm, phone notifications, integration with a Nintendo Switch or precise identification of which person moved. The $99.99 figure was Nintendo’s U.S. suggested launch price in 2024, and no current universal price is established here, so value depends on the actual price and availability in your region.
Two-year buyer checklist
- Confirm that your bed is within the supported Twin-through-King range and that the clock can sit where its sensor covers the sleeping area.
- Plan for a USB Type-A-to-C power adapter meeting Nintendo’s 5 V/1.5 A/7.5 W minimum; it is not supplied with the clock.
- Account for pets, fans or a bed partner that could trigger continued alarm behavior.
- Connect Wi-Fi if you want time synchronization, account linking, scene downloads and firmware updates.
- Run Check Sensor Zone and test an alarm before depending on it for work, school or travel.
The Bottom Line
At its two-year mark, Alarmo is a more capable standalone Nintendo alarm than the October 2024 launch unit, with four firmware releases and five listed free scene additions. Its value still comes down to whether motion-controlled, game-themed wake-ups justify a dedicated $99.99-class device and its USB, placement and household-detection limitations.
