The delay did not change the announced U.S. console price of $449.99 or the June 5, 2025 launch date.
What changed in the Switch 2 preorder schedule?
Nintendo had initially scheduled U.S. preorders to begin April 9, 2025. On April 4, the company said they would not start that day and that it would share updated timing later. On April 18, Nintendo announced that U.S. retail preorders would begin April 24, 2025, and apologized for the delay.

Nintendo of America’s April 18 announcement said: “Retail pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 24, 2025.” It also said, “We apologize for the retail pre-order delay, and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing.”
Why did Nintendo delay preorders?
Nintendo said it wanted to assess “the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.” That was the company’s stated reason for postponing the U.S. preorder date, according to TechCrunch’s April 4, 2025 report, which attributed the statement to a Nintendo spokesperson.
