The “last Switch games” framing referred to a presentation focused on the original Switch at a moment when attention was turning to Switch 2—not to an official end-of-life announcement.
What “the last Switch games” meant
Nintendo’s March 27 presentation ran for just over 37 minutes and centered on software for the original Switch, without Switch 2 news, according to TechRadar’s event coverage. Nintendo had announced a separate Switch 2 Direct for April 2, 2025. That context made the March show feel like a transition point, but it did not establish that the console would receive no more games.

It is more accurate to call it a Switch-focused Direct than the last Nintendo Direct for Switch. TechRadar noted that more Switch releases, including games spanning generations, could still follow. And Nintendo’s September 9, 2026 Direct page documents a later presentation with Switch 2 announcements, including a Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Directs continued; platform and edition details belong to each individual announcement.

Switch features and other announcements
The presentation was not only about new games. BGR also covered Virtual Game Cards, a digital-games feature that lets users use digital games on another console in a card-like way and lend games within a family group for up to two weeks. These are not physical cartridges. BGR also mentioned Nintendo Today, an app announced alongside the software updates.

What to check before buying one of these games
A historical Direct recap cannot confirm a particular store listing, price, physical edition, regional release, or current stock. Before purchasing, inspect the live product page for the exact title and edition rather than relying on the March 2025 announcement alone.
- Console: Confirm whether the listing is for the original Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, or both.
- Edition and upgrade: Check whether a Switch 2 version or upgrade is separately listed; do not assume a Switch listing includes it.
- Region and date: Verify the release date and availability for your region.
- Format and price: Confirm whether the offer is physical or digital and check the current price and stock.
The March 2025 reports are useful for understanding what Nintendo presented then. They are not a substitute for current, title-specific purchase details.
