Here is what Nintendo announced, with platforms and release timing kept as stated at the time—not as confirmation of current availability.
Mario’s 40th anniversary opened the presentation
Nintendo framed the Direct around 40 years of Super Mario Bros.; the original game first launched in Japan on September 13, 1985. The opening announcements included anniversary activities, a new animated film, and the return of two Galaxy games. Nintendo’s September 2025 recap covered games planned for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Nintendo announced The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, with its worldwide release set to begin April 3, 2026, according to the announcement. That is the date given in September 2025, not an update on the film’s current release status. Nintendo’s announcement
Super Mario Galaxy returns on Switch
Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 was announced as a combined physical release for Nintendo Switch, with both games also available digitally. Nintendo set October 2, 2025 as the launch date. The games were described as featuring an improved user interface, button and stick controls as well as motion controls, an in-game music player, new Storybook content, and enhanced resolution. Galaxy collectibles and Rosalina’s Storybook
Nintendo announced two amiibo: Mario & Luma and Rosalina & Lumas. Scanning Mario & Luma can provide a Life Mushroom in the games; scanning Rosalina & Lumas can provide a 1-Up Mushroom. For Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the December 4 date is the timing Nintendo announced in 2025; it should not be read as a statement about later schedule changes or present availability. Nintendo Life’s October 13, 2025 ordered roundup also covers a wider range of titles shown or included in the presentation, such as Storm Lancers, Dinkum, Popucom, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. The presentation covered Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, but its games were not all announced for both systems. Some titles were assigned to Switch 2, some to Switch, and some—such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond—to both. The Galaxy games were announced for Nintendo Switch, with a free Switch 2 update adding 4K support.
