The “Zelda remake” mentioned on a 2025 Nintendo eShop gift-card listing was retailer copy, not a Nintendo announcement. The listing did not name a game, and contemporary coverage said the Zelda remake or remaster was unconfirmed at the time. Nintendo has since officially announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, planned for November 5, 2026—but that later announcement does not prove the old listing was authoritative or that it referred to this specific game.
What the Nintendo gift-card listing said
In January 2025, Newegg’s listing for a $50 Nintendo eShop gift card included a line presenting several games as part of a “2025 Games” slate. Gameranx reported the wording as: “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, New 3D Mario, New Mario Kart, A Legend of Zelda Remake/Remaster, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, Pokemon Legends: Z-A.”

The Zelda entry was generic: it did not identify a game, subtitle, platform, or release date. Gameranx said the new 3D Mario game and Zelda remake or remaster were not confirmed for either platform when the listing attracted attention. The wording was attached to retailer product copy, not a Nintendo press release. Gameranx’s January 2025 report
What Nintendo has since confirmed
In September 2026, Nintendo officially announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, with a planned launch on November 5, 2026. Nintendo describes it as a remake of Link’s 1998 adventure, with overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, and reworked camera and movement controls. Series producer Eiji Aonuma presented the gameplay details in the announcement. Nintendo’s announcement

Nintendo’s announcement also listed a Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition console, a Pro Controller, and a carrying case with screen protector, scheduled for October 29, 2026. Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo were announced for 2027. These dates are planned availability, not confirmation of current stock in a particular store or region.
Additional announced features
Nintendo’s Canadian announcement says players can play or hum learned ocarina melodies within range of the Switch 2’s built-in microphone to trigger those melodies in the game. It also says the new amiibo can unlock masks with a retro graphical style. Nintendo Canada’s announcement

Does the old listing mean Nintendo leaked Ocarina of Time?
No. The two statements establish different things: Gameranx reported that Newegg’s gift-card listing used the unspecific phrase “A Legend of Zelda Remake/Remaster” in 2025, while Nintendo announced Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 in 2026. The later announcement confirms a Zelda remake exists; it does not show that Nintendo supplied or authorized the earlier listing copy, nor that the generic phrase referred to Ocarina of Time.
