The U.S. changes took effect August 3; Canadian prices were reported August 1. The standard Switch, OLED Model and Switch Lite each received different price increases.

These are the historical list prices reported around the 2025 changes, not a live check of current retailer prices. U.S. model-by-model figures were reported by Tom’s Hardware; Canadian figures were reported by TVA Nouvelles.

Nintendo of America said the U.S. changes took effect August 3, 2025. Canadian price changes were reported effective August 1, 2025; Nintendo of Canada had said it would share pricing details that day. The two currencies are listed separately and should not be compared as equivalent amounts; taxes and pricing context vary by country.
What Nintendo said about the price changes
Nintendo’s U.S. notice attributed the adjustment to “market conditions” and gave no single cause. The company did not identify tariffs, exchange rates or manufacturing costs as the specific reason for this revision.

In a separate FY2025 financial-results Q&A, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa described factors the company generally considers when setting hardware prices, including manufacturing cost, consumers’ impression of the price, exchange-rate differences from the Switch launch, and regional market conditions. That was a general explanation of Nintendo’s pricing approach, not a direct explanation of the 2025 increases. Read the FY2025 Q&A (English translation).
Which products were covered—and was Switch 2 affected?
The U.S. notice covered the original Switch family and select accessories, with the changes effective August 3. It said the Switch 2 system, physical and digital Switch and Switch 2 games, and Nintendo Switch Online memberships would remain unchanged “at this time,” while noting that future adjustments might be necessary. Nintendo of Canada’s June 30 notice covered the original Switch family, physical and digital Switch games, accessories, amiibo and Nintendo Switch Online memberships. It excluded the Switch 2 system, accessories and software from those changes. Nintendo of Canada’s notice.
The original Switch debuted in 2017; the Switch 2 reached store shelves on June 5, 2025, eight years later, according to the Associated Press. The 2025 notices discussed here did not include the Switch 2 system, but their scope should not be read as a guarantee about later pricing.
