Nintendo’s US price update for the original Switch family took effect on August 3, 2025. The company said the change was “based on market conditions,” but did not name a specific cause or publish the new console prices in its announcement. Target listings reported at the time showed increases for the standard Switch, OLED Model, and Switch Lite.
Which Switch consoles were included?
Nintendo of America’s August 1, 2025 announcement covered US pricing for the standard Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED Model, Nintendo Switch Lite, and select accessories. How much did the reported prices change?
On August 1, 2025, Ars Technica reported that Target listings showed the following US prices. They are contemporaneous retailer listings, not prices guaranteed by Nintendo or current prices at every retailer.

Why did Nintendo raise the prices?
Nintendo’s stated reason was “based on market conditions.” Its announcement did not identify tariffs, manufacturing costs, exchange rates, or any other factor as the specific trigger for this update. Nintendo’s announcement

What has Nintendo said about tariffs and pricing more broadly?
At Nintendo’s May 8, 2025 financial-results briefing, company president Shuntaro Furukawa described several considerations in hardware pricing:
“When determining hardware prices, we consider not only the manufacturing cost, but also various factors such as consumers’ impression of the price, the vast differences in exchange rates compared to the Nintendo Switch launch, and the market conditions in each region.”

He also described the company’s general tariff policy:
“Our basic policy is that for any country or region, if tariffs are imposed, we recognize them as a part of the cost and incorporate them into the price.”
