Some original Nintendo Switch accessories work with Nintendo Switch 2, but compatibility is item-specific. Original Joy-Con and Pro Controllers can connect wirelessly; the original dock cannot be reused; and the original AC adapter can charge the console directly but cannot provide TV mode. For expandable game storage, buy a microSD Express card—not a standard microSD card.
Which original Switch accessories work with Switch 2?

Nintendo’s compatibility chart lists specific supported accessories and exceptions; compatibility should not be assumed just because an accessory worked with the original console.
What storage card does Switch 2 need?
For expandable game storage, Switch 2 accepts microSD Express cards only. Nintendo states support for cards up to 2 TB; using a card for the first time requires an internet-connected system update. A standard microSD card can still load captured screenshots and videos from Switch, but it cannot store or load Switch 2 games. See Nintendo’s microSD compatibility guidance.
Nintendo’s accessories page lists a 256 GB Samsung microSD Express card as one option. The figure describes that listed card’s capacity, not a minimum requirement.

Which old Joy-Con attachments fit Joy-Con 2?
Original Switch accessories made to attach to or work with original Joy-Con do not work with Joy-Con 2. This includes straps, grips, charging grips, wheels, the leg strap, Ring-Con, AA battery pack, and two-way charging stand. Original Joy-Con can still connect wirelessly for compatible games, so an old attachment may remain useful with those controllers when the game supports it; that does not make it compatible with Joy-Con 2.
What should you buy for Switch 2?
Expandable game storage
Choose a microSD Express card. A regular microSD card is not an equivalent option for Switch 2 game storage.

Carrying protection
Nintendo lists Switch 2-specific carrying cases and a screen protector. Its All-In-One Carrying Case is described as holding the console and TV-mode equipment, including the dock, controllers, and cables, plus up to six game cards. For a third-party case, check that the listing explicitly says it fits Switch 2 rather than assuming an original Switch case will fit.
TV setup or another charging location
Nintendo lists a Switch 2 dock set and AC adapter. For TV mode, use the Switch 2 dock; the original dock and adapter cannot provide it. The original adapter remains an option for direct console charging.

GameChat video requires a compatible USB camera. Nintendo identifies its Switch 2 camera and a compatible USB-C webcam as options, but the cited Nintendo pages do not establish that every third-party camera will work. Confirm compatibility for the exact camera before buying.
