Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, with Mario Kart World and more than 20 other games available that day. Nintendo’s launch-day list spans new releases, ports and enhanced editions; subscription classics and free updates to existing Switch games are separate categories, not additional new retail releases.

Nintendo described the lineup as “over 20 titles” in its June 5, 2025 Canada launch announcement. Counting can differ across roundups because some separate enhanced editions from new games or include subscription catalog titles and software updates.
What kind of launch games were they?
New releases and games arriving on the platform
The lineup was not limited to Nintendo-developed exclusives. It included partner releases such as Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Split Fiction, Street Fighter 6 and Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, alongside Nintendo-published games and other releases. “Launch game” here means available for Switch 2 on June 5, rather than every game announced for the console’s launch window or its first year.

Switch 2 Editions
Several entries are explicitly named Switch 2 Editions, including both The Legend of Zelda games, Fantasy Life i, No Man’s Sky, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma and Civilization VII. Nintendo UK’s June 2, 2025 launch guide presents upgraded editions separately from other games available that day. Upgrade and purchase terms are not identical across titles. For the two Zelda games, Nintendo’s launch release said eligible owners of the original Switch versions with a paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership could access the upgrade packs at no additional cost.
Subscription classics and free updates are separate
Nintendo UK also listed The Wind Waker, F-ZERO GX and SOULCALIBUR II for play through the GameCube – Nintendo Classics app with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. These were subscription-catalog games, not new Switch 2 retail releases.

The same UK guide identified free updates for selected original Switch games, including Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Game Builder Garage, 51 Worldwide Games and ARMS. Those updates should not be added to the count of new launch-day games.

Mario Kart World was Nintendo’s featured launch game. Nintendo said it was available in stores and on eShop, and described Grand Prix, Knockout Tour, Free Roam and local split-screen for up to four players. The announcement also described races with up to 24 drivers; these are announced features, not independently tested performance claims.

Pricing in the launch announcement was region-specific: Nintendo listed a suggested retail price of 9,980 yen for the physical game in Japan. That figure is not a global price. Nintendo of America separately announced launch-era US suggested prices of $449.99 for the console and $499.99 for a bundle with a digital Mario Kart World download code; those are historical US launch prices, not current pricing.
How to read the launch-day count
Nintendo’s official June 5 announcement is the clearest source for what it said was available alongside the console on day one. Its list includes distinct types of releases, and storefronts or other roundups may classify them differently. For a strict launch-day answer, use the 25 entries above; treat GameCube catalog access and free updates as separate from that enumerated list.
