Update: Nintendo Switch 2 launched in the U.S. on June 5, 2025, so the original console preorder period is over. Nintendo’s U.S. product page listed the system as available now when checked on August 18, 2026. Shoppers should look for an in-stock purchase through Nintendo or an established retailer—not a launch invitation or preorder slot.

Are Nintendo Switch 2 preorders still open?
No—not for the console’s original launch. Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, after its launch-era preorder period. A page still advertising April 2025 preorder dates, guaranteed launch-day delivery, or a new console invitation may simply be outdated.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
A retailer can still use the word “preorder” for a future Switch 2 game, special edition, or later hardware bundle. That is different from preordering the Switch 2 console itself.
Can you still register interest with Nintendo?
Nintendo previously used a My Nintendo Store interest-registration and invitation process for the 2025 launch. Eligible U.S. and Canadian Nintendo Account holders could register interest, with invitations sent in waves. It supplemented retailer purchasing rather than replacing it, and an invitation did not guarantee launch-day delivery. Historical reports also described eligibility rules involving age, region, Nintendo Account ownership, and, for some priority access, Nintendo Switch Online membership and registered gameplay.
Those were launch-era rules. Do not assume that the same queue, eligibility requirements, or invitation system remains active. Nintendo’s current How to Buy page should be treated as the authority for any present waitlist, restock alert, or product-notification option.
Recommended Free Tools
In short: registering interest is not a substitute for checking live retailer inventory, and it should never require unusual payment methods or personal information through an unofficial link.

Nintendo Switch 2 prices and bundles
| Date | Standalone U.S. MSRP | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| August 18, 2026 | $449.99 | Price listed by Nintendo at the time of the check |
| September 1, 2026 | $499.99 scheduled | Nintendo-announced manufacturer price revision |
Nintendo announced the September 1 change in its financial materials. Because retailer pricing, promotions, taxes, shipping, and inventory can differ, the announced MSRP is not necessarily the exact checkout total. A price below MSRP may be a temporary promotion; a marketplace price above it may be a reseller markup.
Standalone Nintendo Switch 2
The console-only version is the straightforward choice for buyers who do not want the included game, already own it, or want to choose a different title. Nintendo listed its U.S. MSRP at $449.99 on August 18, 2026, with the announced $499.99 MSRP scheduled for September 1.
Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle
Nintendo lists the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle at $499.99. Nintendo’s launch announcement says it includes the console and a digital copy of Mario Kart World. The bundle is most useful when you want the game and would otherwise buy it separately. If you already own the game digitally, compare the standalone console against the bundle before ordering; the bundle is not automatically the better value.

Check the live purchase page for the details that matter: whether the promotion is available through Nintendo only or participating retailers, whether the game arrives as a download code or account-linked digital entitlement, which games qualify, and whether the offer is available in your region. If you already own an eligible game, calculate its value as zero for your decision rather than counting it as a new benefit.

- Choose the standalone console if you do not want Mario Kart World, already own it, want a different game, or find the console at a better live price.
- Choose the Mario Kart World bundle if you want that game and are comfortable receiving it digitally.
- Choose the game bundle if you have not selected a game and the eligible download provides more value than a separate purchase.
- Choose a major retailer if you need local pickup, a particular return policy, financing, rewards, trade-in options, or faster fulfillment.
- Choose Nintendo’s store if you prefer a first-party purchase or Nintendo is offering a bundle unavailable elsewhere.
What to check before paying
Verify the listing
- Use Nintendo’s buying page or the retailer’s official domain.
- Inspect the “sold by” and “shipped by” fields on marketplace listings.
- Avoid shortened URLs, unsolicited social-media restock links, unclear sellers, and unusual payment methods.
- Compare the listing with Nintendo’s dated MSRP to spot a reseller markup.
Confirm fulfillment and total cost
- Check the actual delivery date or pickup status for your location.
- Review shipping fees, sales tax, protection plans, and accessories added to the cart.
- Read the return policy before ordering.
- Check whether payment is charged immediately or whether the retailer places an authorization hold.
Confirm bundle contents
- Verify the exact game and whether it is digital or physical.
- Check whether the digital item is a download code or an account-linked entitlement.
- Confirm regional compatibility for digital content.
- Do not pay extra for a bundle whose game you already own unless the effective price still makes sense.
What if you meant a Switch 2 game preorder?
Hardware availability and game preorders are separate. Nintendo’s support documentation says eligible Nintendo eShop games can be preordered, with payment processed no sooner than seven days before release. A preorder can generally be canceled before payment is processed and the game is preloaded. See Nintendo’s digital preorder rules for the applicable conditions.
Nintendo distinguishes digital eShop preorders from physical Nintendo Store pre-purchases: digital payment is delayed until no sooner than seven days before release, while a physical Nintendo Store pre-purchase is charged immediately and ships after release. Details can change by product and region, so check the specific listing.
Bottom line
Do not treat Nintendo Switch 2 as a launch preorder product in the U.S. Use Nintendo’s current buying page to find the console or an authorized retail listing, then compare the standalone system with the available game bundles after checking the seller and final checkout total. The $449.99 figure was Nintendo’s listed U.S. MSRP on August 18, 2026, while Nintendo announced a $499.99 standalone MSRP beginning September 1, 2026—so verify the live price before ordering.
