Nintendo’s Japan support page says YouTube cannot currently be used on Switch 2, and Crunchyroll says its app is unsupported. Hulu service ended even on the original Switch in February 2026. For other major services, current Switch 2 support was not verified in the official sources reviewed.
Nintendo Switch 2 streaming-app compatibility
This status check reflects official U.S. sources where available, plus Nintendo’s Japan support page for YouTube. App availability can vary by region. “Not verified” means the reviewed official sources did not confirm a Switch 2 app; it is not proof that a service will never support the console.

Nintendo’s general Switch and Switch 2 compatibility information covers games, accounts, online features and other transfer-related features; it is not a blanket guarantee that every original Switch application works on Switch 2.
YouTube: unavailable on Switch 2 for now
Nintendo’s Japan FAQ says YouTube cannot currently be used on Switch 2. Trying to start the original Switch version produces an error equivalent to “Could not start.” Nintendo says it is working with software makers toward future support, but the cited page gives no public release date. This is a statement about current compatibility, not a confirmed launch window.

The same FAQ says YouTube can be downloaded from the eShop and used on the original Nintendo Switch without a Nintendo Switch Online membership. That original-console guidance does not establish Switch 2 support.
Crunchyroll: a transferred app icon may not work
Crunchyroll’s support page explicitly says its app is not supported on Switch 2. If the app was transferred from an original Switch, its icon may still appear, but Crunchyroll says it will not launch successfully. The company says the app remains functional on the original Switch and that it has no announcement about a Switch 2 release.

Hulu ended on the original Switch too
Hulu is not simply a Switch 2 app that was omitted: Nintendo says Hulu was removed from the original Switch eShop on November 6, 2025, and service on that console ended February 5, 2026. Nintendo directs users to Hulu for general account and subscription assistance.
Why a transferred app can appear but fail
An icon in the Switch 2 menu is not proof that the software is compatible. Crunchyroll confirms this exact situation for its app. One reasonable explanation is that a system transfer can restore software information or an icon without guaranteeing that the app itself is compatible; that is an inference, not a technical explanation published by Nintendo. If an app will not start, the issue may be compatibility rather than your Wi-Fi, account, or subscription.

Nintendo’s support index can also contain app help pages that concern original Switch support or troubleshooting. A support-page listing by itself does not confirm Switch 2 compatibility: Nintendo’s app-support index.

Browser
The cited official material does not establish a general-purpose Switch 2 browser that can play protected video from Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, or other streaming sites. There is no verified browser-based workaround in the official sources reviewed.

Phone or tablet casting
A phone or tablet can run streaming apps on its own, but that does not mean Switch 2 accepts Chromecast, AirPlay, or another casting protocol. No verified way to cast video to Switch 2 is established by the cited sources.
GameChat
GameChat is a communications feature, not a video-on-demand service. Nintendo’s compatibility information discusses GameChat and related controls separately from third-party entertainment apps.

Cloud game streaming
Nintendo documents cloud versions of games as games streamed from a server. That is a distinct service model and is not evidence of support for movies, TV, or creator-video apps. Nintendo’s cloud-version FAQ.
What to use instead for video
- For portable viewing: Use a phone or tablet with the services you need. Download availability varies by service and device, so check the app’s offline-viewing options if you travel.
- For a television: Use the TV’s built-in apps or a dedicated streaming stick or box, and confirm your specific services and region are supported before buying. These devices complement Switch 2 rather than replace its games.
- If you already own an original Switch: YouTube and Crunchyroll remain documented there, but Hulu has ended, so it is only a limited stopgap rather than an all-purpose streaming device.
Should you buy Switch 2 for streaming?
Buy Switch 2 for Nintendo games, not as a streaming hub. If Netflix, YouTube, anime, sports, or other video apps are a core reason for your purchase, plan on a separate supported device instead. Broad backward compatibility for games and other features does not guarantee compatibility for entertainment apps; Nintendo documents those systems separately in its compatibility overview.
