1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf playing Zelda is a priority, choose Nintendo Switch 2: Nintendo lists Zelda games for the system, including Switch 2 editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. PS5 is the stronger fit if you care more about PlayStation games or your PS4 library than access to current Zelda releases.
Can you play Zelda on PS5?
The official PlayStation PS5 catalog and compatibility information cited here establish access to PlayStation games and PS4 titles, not current Zelda releases. Nintendo’s official pages list Zelda software for Switch 2. If Zelda is a must-play, Nintendo is the direct choice; do not buy a PS5 expecting it to provide the current Zelda releases covered here.

Why compare Switch 2, not just the original Switch?
Although the question is often phrased as “Nintendo Switch vs. PS5,” Switch 2 is Nintendo’s current hardware. It plays compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, so it is relevant both for new Zelda releases and for many owners’ existing Switch libraries. Nintendo cautions that some Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible on Switch 2. Check Nintendo’s Switch game compatibility information for a particular title before relying on it.
Which Zelda games and editions matter?
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom
Nintendo lists Switch 2 editions of both games. The editions are not identical to simply playing the original Switch versions on the new console: Nintendo says a Switch copy of Breath of the Wild played on a Nintendo Switch runs as the Switch version, without the additional features exclusive to the Switch 2 edition. See Nintendo’s Switch 2 Zelda editions page for the edition details. If you already own a Switch copy, check the current regional listing for the upgrade or edition terms rather than assuming the extra features are included.

Ocarina of Time
Nintendo Australia announced on September 9, 2026 that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time would launch on Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. As of October 7, 2026, that date was still in the future; consult Nintendo Australia’s anniversary announcement for the announcement and confirm current availability after the stated launch date.
When PS5 is the better choice
PS5 makes more sense if Zelda is optional and your main priorities are PlayStation games, PS5 features, or continuing a PS4 collection. PlayStation says PS5 supports the overwhelming majority of PS4 games, with Game Boost benefits for select titles. Its official pages give inconsistent compatibility counts, so the qualitative claim is the more dependable summary; check the PS5 product page and PS5 games page for current platform information.

How to choose
- Make a must-play list. If it includes current Zelda releases, choose Switch 2. If it centers on PlayStation games or PS4 titles, give PS5 priority.
- Check games you already own. Confirm Switch compatibility for each title you plan to bring to Switch 2. For PS4 discs, rule out PS5 Digital Edition if you want to keep using them.
- Compare exact editions. If you want Switch 2 edition features for a Zelda game, verify the listed edition and terms; owning or inserting the original Switch version does not by itself provide those exclusive features.
- Price the complete setup locally. Include the console model, games, physical or digital format, and any bundle you are actually considering.
