A Nintendo Switch console can be sold in a bundle that includes a full game download, but Nintendo does not include a game with every console. The exact product listing determines whether a game is present, which game it is, and how you receive it.
Nintendo’s support FAQ says bundled games are delivered digitally: either as a code redeemed in Nintendo eShop or as a download registered to your Nintendo Account when you open the eShop. Check the model, region, included game and redemption instructions on the specific listing before you buy.

What “Nintendo Switch with a game” actually means
A game-inclusive console is a bundle rather than a standard feature of the Nintendo Switch hardware. The same console model may be sold by itself in one listing and with a game in another. The box, price and included software therefore depend on the exact bundle, retailer and region.

The game described by Nintendo’s support guidance is a full-game download. That is different from receiving a physical game card in the console box. You should expect the listing to explain a digital redemption method, not assume that a cartridge is included.

Nintendo’s FAQ covers Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, and also discusses Nintendo Switch 2. Because Switch 2 is a separate console generation, do not treat a Switch 2 listing as interchangeable with an original Nintendo Switch listing. Read the model name and bundle description exactly as written.
Which Nintendo Switch models can be bundled with a game?
Nintendo’s general rule is that a console may come with a game when it is sold as a bundle. That wording is permission for a bundle, not a promise that every unit includes software.
| Model named in Nintendo’s FAQ | What the FAQ establishes | What to verify on the listing |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | It may be sold in a bundle with a game download. | Whether this particular package includes a game, the game title and the redemption method. |
| Nintendo Switch Lite | It may be sold in a bundle with a game download. | Whether the bundle is for the Lite model and whether the game is included digitally. |
| Nintendo Switch – OLED Model | It may be sold in a bundle with a game download. | Whether the listing is for the OLED Model and what software, if any, is attached to it. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Nintendo discusses it in the same support FAQ, but it is a separate console from the original Switch family. | Confirm that the listing is for Switch 2 and follow that listing’s own game and redemption terms. |
The support FAQ does not provide a live inventory of bundles by retailer or country. A bundle that exists in one market or at one time may not be available in another. Treat the product page, package label and regional Nintendo information as the final authority for the unit you are considering.
How the included digital game is delivered
Nintendo identifies two delivery routes for a bundled full-game download. Both result in a digital game associated with Nintendo’s software ecosystem, but the first action you take is different.
1. A download code for Nintendo eShop
Some bundles provide a code. You redeem that code in Nintendo eShop, using the console’s eShop application and the Nintendo Account you choose. The listing or insert should tell you that a code is included and identify the game it unlocks.
- Check the package or listing for the named game and a download-code statement.
- Open Nintendo eShop on the bundled console.
- Choose the code-redemption option and enter the supplied code exactly.
- Confirm the game and Nintendo Account shown before completing redemption.
- Start the download from the eShop prompts or your software library.
The important buying question is not merely “does this box say bundle?” It is “does it contain a code, and where is that code valid?” Region and redemption conditions belong to the exact offer, so read them before paying.
2. A game registered to your Nintendo Account
Other bundles do not require a printed code. Nintendo says the full-game download can be registered to a Nintendo Account when you open Nintendo eShop. In that case, the account you use at that point is central to receiving the game.
- Set up the console and sign in with the Nintendo Account intended to own the digital game.
- Open Nintendo eShop as directed by the bundle documentation.
- Allow the bundle’s included game to be registered to that account.
- Follow the on-screen download instructions and wait for the game to appear in the console’s software library.
Use the account that should retain access to the purchase. If several people share a console, decide whose Nintendo Account will receive the entitlement before opening the eShop. Nintendo’s FAQ explains the registration trigger; it does not promise that an entitlement can be moved freely between accounts later.
How to check a listing before you buy
Use this checklist on the retailer page, in the box description or on the package photographs. If a detail is missing, ask the seller rather than assuming a game is included.
- Model: Confirm whether the package is Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch – OLED Model or Nintendo Switch 2.
- Bundle wording: Look for an explicit statement that a game is included. A console-only title or photograph does not establish that software is part of the deal.
- Game identity: Find the exact game name. “Bonus game” without a title leaves an important detail unresolved.
- Delivery method: Determine whether you receive a Nintendo eShop download code or an account-registered download activated when eShop is opened.
- Region: Check the country or market for which the console and game are sold. Redemption terms can be tied to the offer’s region.
- Instructions: Read the redemption steps and any conditions printed on the listing or included paperwork.
- Package contents: Distinguish a digital game entitlement from a physical game card. Nintendo’s FAQ describes a download.
- Seller wording: If a marketplace listing uses “console only,” “hardware only” or similar language, do not count on a game.
Save a copy of the listing or order confirmation showing the bundle contents. That record makes it easier to resolve a discrepancy if the delivered package does not match the advertised offer.
Why two listings with the same console may differ
Console hardware and bundled software are separate parts of an offer. A manufacturer, retailer or regional distributor can package the same model with different software, or sell the hardware without a game. The support FAQ establishes that bundles may include a game; it does not establish a permanent game, a universal launch title or a standard price difference.

Promotional names can also be easy to misread. A listing may highlight a game in a product image while placing the actual inclusion terms in a bullet point or footnote. Read the text that defines what is inside the box, not only the headline or photograph.
Do not infer availability from an older listing, another country’s store or a different Switch model. Nintendo’s support page gives the general mechanism, not a current catalog of offers. Availability must be checked at the time and place of purchase.
What happens after you buy the bundle?
If the package contains a code
Keep the code and its instructions until redemption succeeds. Enter it through Nintendo eShop while signed into the intended Nintendo Account. Verify that the displayed game title matches the bundle before confirming. Once the game appears in your library, follow the eShop download prompts.
If the package uses account registration
Complete the initial setup with the Nintendo Account that should receive the game, then open Nintendo eShop as the instructions specify. The account-registration route means the entitlement is associated with the account selected during that process. Check the account name on screen before proceeding.
If the game does not appear
- Re-read the listing and package insert to identify whether the offer used a code or automatic registration.
- Confirm that you opened eShop with the intended Nintendo Account.
- Check that the console model and regional offer match the documentation.
- Look for a separate card, receipt line or digital-delivery instruction inside the package.
- Contact the retailer first when the advertised contents are missing; use Nintendo support when the documented redemption process fails.
These checks separate a missing entitlement from a misunderstanding about the bundle type. Do not purchase the game again until you have established whether the original offer was redeemed or registered.
Region and account details to treat carefully
The support guidance specifically tells buyers to consider region and redemption conditions on the individual listing. A code supplied for one market may not be intended for another market’s eShop, and an account-registered offer still depends on using the account specified by the bundle process.
When buying imported hardware, compare the console’s market, the eShop region available to your account and the bundle’s stated redemption territory. The official FAQ does not provide a universal compatibility matrix, so avoid assuming that an overseas bundle will redeem identically to a domestic one.
For gifts, decide in advance which account will own the digital game. Giving the hardware to someone else after registering the game to your own account can create an ownership mismatch that the original listing may not resolve.

Assuming every Switch includes a game
Why it fails: Nintendo says a game may be included when the console is sold as a bundle, not that every console is bundled.
Fix: Require an explicit game-inclusion statement on the exact model listing.
Confusing a game pictured with a game included
Why it fails: Product images can show software for illustration or promotion without defining the box contents.

What Nintendo’s official guidance does—and does not—answer
Nintendo’s “Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch Digital Game Bundle – FAQ,” accessed October 13, 2026, establishes the general rule: a Nintendo Switch console may come with a game when purchased in a bundle. It also identifies the two digital delivery methods, eShop code redemption and Nintendo Account registration when eShop is opened.
That FAQ does not list every current retailer bundle, guarantee a particular game, provide a universal price, or establish that an offer is available in every region. Those details belong to the individual product listing. If a listing and its packaging do not clearly identify the game and activation route, the safe conclusion is that inclusion has not been demonstrated.
Bottom line for buyers
Yes, some Nintendo Switch bundles include a game, but a game is not guaranteed with every Nintendo Switch console. Buy on the evidence of the exact listing: confirm the model, named game, digital delivery method, region and redemption instructions. Expect a full-game download delivered by eShop code or Nintendo Account registration, rather than assuming a physical cartridge is in the box.
