Yes—standard Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model system bundles include a basic Joy-Con Grip. It joins the two detachable Joy-Con controllers into a traditional-style gamepad. The separately sold Joy-Con Charging Grip is not included, and Nintendo Switch Lite is a different design with built-in controls rather than detachable Joy-Con.
Which Nintendo Switch models include a grip?
Nintendo’s answer depends on the console model and on whether you are looking at a standard system package or an unusual retailer, special-edition, or used bundle. The table below describes the ordinary system bundles documented by Nintendo.

| Console model | Grip in the standard system bundle | Controller arrangement | TV and dock use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | One standard Joy-Con Grip, model HAC-011 | Left and right Joy-Con detach from the console and can be joined in the grip | Supports TV mode with the system dock |
| Nintendo Switch – OLED Model | One included Joy-Con Grip; Nintendo notes that this version is slightly different and has an engraved Nintendo Switch logo | Detachable left and right Joy-Con can be used together in the grip | Supports TV mode with the system dock |
| Nintendo Switch Lite | No standard detachable Joy-Con Grip | Controls are integrated into the handheld | Does not support TV mode and is not compatible with a dock |
Nintendo Support describes the HAC-011 accessory included with a Nintendo Switch bundle as a way to combine both Joy-Con into a traditional-style controller. That wording applies to the standard Switch and OLED system packages, not to Switch Lite’s built-in control layout.
What the included Joy-Con Grip does
Basic Grip (HAC-011)
The basic Joy-Con Grip is a holder. You slide the left and right Joy-Con into it, and the two small controllers sit together in a wider, conventional controller shape. The grip itself does not turn the Joy-Con into a different controller system; it simply keeps both halves together while you play.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Because Nintendo identifies the included accessory as model HAC-011, that model number is useful when you are checking a listing, requesting a missing part from a seller, or looking for a like-for-like replacement. A package that says only “controller grip” without identifying the accessory may be describing a third-party item or a different Nintendo product, so confirm the exact contents.
What the basic grip does not do
The HAC-011 is not the charging version. It has the shape and function needed to hold the Joy-Con, but Nintendo does not describe it as providing power to them. If your goal is to continue playing while the Joy-Con charge, you are looking for the separate HAC-012 Joy-Con Charging Grip instead.
Basic Grip versus Joy-Con Charging Grip
The two accessories look similar because both hold a pair of Joy-Con, but their purposes and package status are different.

| Accessory | Model number | Purpose | Included with a standard Switch or OLED system bundle? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Joy-Con Grip | HAC-011 | Combines the left and right Joy-Con into a traditional-style controller | Yes, one is included in the ordinary Switch and OLED system packages |
| Joy-Con Charging Grip | HAC-012 | Holds the Joy-Con and lets you keep playing while the controllers charge, according to Nintendo Support | No. It is a separately sold accessory |
“Charging Grip” is therefore not another name for the item already in the box. A new standard Switch or OLED bundle should include HAC-011, while HAC-012 is an optional purchase for people who specifically want charging during play. Do not assume that seeing a grip in a product photo means the charging model is included; check the model number or the written contents list.

How the answer changes by console model
Standard Nintendo Switch
The ordinary Nintendo Switch system bundle includes detachable left and right Joy-Con and one HAC-011 Grip. The grip is the intended way to use both controllers as one traditional-style gamepad when you are not holding a Joy-Con in each hand or attaching them to the console.
If a listing is for the complete standard system but its contents list omits the grip, treat that as a package discrepancy rather than assuming the accessory is hidden under another name. Retailers sometimes combine stock, and used sellers may sell a console with only the parts they still have.
Nintendo Switch – OLED Model
The OLED system bundle also includes one Joy-Con Grip. Nintendo’s support information says the included OLED grip is slightly different from the standard version and is engraved with the Nintendo Switch logo. That cosmetic distinction does not change the basic purpose: it joins the two detachable Joy-Con into one controller.

Nintendo Switch Lite
Switch Lite should not be treated as a smaller standard Switch package. Its controls are built into the handheld, so its ordinary configuration does not include the detachable Joy-Con pair and the standard bundle grip. Nintendo also states that Switch Lite does not support TV mode and is not compatible with a dock.
That means the question “Does Switch Lite come with a grip?” has two possible meanings. It does not come with the HAC-011 system-bundle grip because it does not use detachable Joy-Con in its normal setup. A case or handhold accessory sold for Lite would be a different product, not the Nintendo Joy-Con Grip described for the standard and OLED systems.
Why package type matters
“Included” is accurate for a standard system bundle, but it is not a promise about every box that uses the words Nintendo Switch. Special-edition consoles, retailer bundles, refurbished units, and used systems can have different contents. A seller may remove the original grip, substitute another accessory, or list a console without the complete controller set.

How to verify a grip before buying
- Identify the console. Confirm whether the listing is for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, or Nintendo Switch Lite. The Lite model is the immediate signal that the ordinary detachable-grip answer does not apply.
- Check that it is a complete system bundle. A console-only listing, replacement console, or used unit may not contain every accessory supplied with a new system package.
- Read the contents list for the accessory name. Look for “Joy-Con Grip” or model HAC-011. If the description says “Joy-Con Charging Grip” or HAC-012, it is referring to the optional charging accessory instead.
- Inspect used-console photos and ask for confirmation. Request a photo of the grip and both Joy-Con if the listing is vague. A seller should be able to say whether the grip is present, damaged, or replaced.
- Review special-edition and retailer notes. Do not assume that a promotional bundle or themed package has the same contents as Nintendo’s ordinary system box. Verify the precise package contents for your region.
This check prevents two common mistakes: buying a Lite while expecting the standard grip, and buying a standard or OLED system while assuming that its included basic grip can charge the controllers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to do if the grip is missing or damaged
Replacing the standard holder
If you own a standard Switch or OLED system and only the holder is missing, search specifically for the Nintendo Joy-Con Grip, model HAC-011. That identifies the basic function supplied with the system. Confirm the seller’s description and compatibility before ordering, since listings may use “grip” as a generic term.
Choosing the charging version
If you want to charge the Joy-Con while continuing to play, the relevant accessory is the Joy-Con Charging Grip, HAC-012. Nintendo Support describes it as allowing continued play while the Joy-Con charge. It is an optional accessory, not a required part of a new standard or OLED system purchase.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →When the controllers are also missing
A grip is only a holder. It does not replace either Joy-Con. If a used package lacks the left or right controller as well as the grip, replacing the HAC-011 alone will not restore the complete two-controller setup. Confirm which individual pieces are present before deciding what must be replaced.

Common buying scenarios
Buying a new standard Switch
For a normal, complete system bundle, expect the HAC-011 Joy-Con Grip in the box. You do not need to add a charging grip merely to use the two Joy-Con as one controller.
Buying a new OLED Model
Expect one included grip, with Nintendo’s noted OLED-specific difference: an engraved Nintendo Switch logo and a slightly different design. The accessory remains a basic grip rather than HAC-012.
Buying a Switch Lite
Do not budget for or expect the standard detachable grip. Lite has integrated controls, no TV mode, and no dock compatibility, so its package is organized around handheld play.
Buying used or open-box
Make the grip a line item in your inspection checklist. Ask whether it is the original HAC-011, whether both Joy-Con are included, and whether any damage affects how securely the controllers sit. If the seller cannot verify the contents, treat the grip as absent when comparing prices.
Wanting to play while charging
Choose the separately sold HAC-012 Charging Grip rather than assuming the HAC-011 in the system box has charging hardware. The model number is the clearest way to distinguish the two accessories.
The practical verdict
For the standard Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, the answer is yes: their ordinary system bundles include a basic Joy-Con Grip. The OLED package’s grip has Nintendo’s noted logo engraving and slight design difference. The charging grip, HAC-012, is separate. Switch Lite is the exception because its controls are built into the handheld and it does not support docked TV play. For any special-edition, retailer, regional, used, or refurbished package, verify the exact contents before purchase.
