Nintendo of America announced on February 3, 2026, that Yoshi and Balloon Kid joined the Game Boy – Nintendo Classics library. Yoshi is a falling-object puzzle game; Balloon Kid is an eight-stage rescue adventure built around flying with balloons.
What are the new Game Boy Classics games?
The two additions are Yoshi and Balloon Kid, available through the Game Boy – Nintendo Classics library. Nintendo of America’s announcement is specific to the US; it does not establish whether the same games or versions were added in every region. Nintendo’s February 3, 2026 announcement describes both titles.
Yoshi
Nintendo describes Yoshi as an action/puzzle game. Characters fall onto trays, where matching pairs disappear. Enclose a whole group between eggshells to hatch Yoshi and increase your score. The falling characters move faster as the game progresses.
Balloon Kid
In Balloon Kid, Alice sets out to rescue her brother Jim. The game has eight stages: collect balloons for bonuses, avoid enemies while airborne, or release balloons and face enemies on the ground. A separate BALLOON TRIP mode focuses on scoring.

How to access the games
These are additions to a subscription library, not standalone new releases. An active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to access the classic games; subscribers do not need to buy Yoshi or Balloon Kid separately. Nintendo Support says it has no plans to sell the classic games outside Nintendo Switch Online. The official announcement’s “Regular Price: Free” label should be read alongside its notice that membership is sold separately. Nintendo’s Nintendo Classics FAQ covers access and membership requirements.
Nintendo lists Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model as supported systems for Nintendo Classics. Members can play classic games offline for up to seven consecutive days before connecting online to verify membership.
