Nintendo Switch Online profile icon rewards are digital characters, backgrounds, and frames that you redeem with My Nintendo Platinum Points in the Nintendo Switch Online app on your console. To claim and use them, select the right user, check Missions & Rewards for current items and conditions, then assemble an icon in Icon Collection. You need an internet connection and an active paid Nintendo Switch Online membership; certain parts require the Expansion Pack tier.

How do I find and redeem profile icon rewards?

  1. Open Nintendo Switch Online. From the HOME Menu, launch the Nintendo Switch Online app and choose the user account that should receive the rewards.
  2. Check the current catalog. Open Missions & Rewards to see the available missions and icon elements. Nintendo says themes change monthly and icon elements refresh weekly; check your console for the current selection and any item-specific conditions. Nintendo’s support guide explains that availability is shown in the app.
  3. Earn and collect Platinum Points. Complete the conditions listed for a My Nintendo mission, then return to the missions page and collect its points. Check any deadline: a mission can count as completed after its collection deadline without granting the points.
  4. Redeem the element. Select a character, frame, or background and spend the listed Platinum Points. Generic frames and background colors are available without points; game-specific elements may cost points.
  5. Build and set the icon. Open Icon Collection, choose a game or an element, select a compatible character, frame, and background, then save the design and set it as the user icon. Custom icons created this way are set in Nintendo Switch Online on HOME, rather than with the standard System Settings or User Page icon selector. Nintendo’s step-by-step instructions cover the process.

What membership do I need?

An active paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is the general requirement, but some parts are exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. The element’s details in the console identify its membership and gameplay conditions. Nintendo’s Expansion Pack FAQ says an active paid Expansion Pack membership is required to qualify for exclusive parts. Nintendo UK says all accounts in an Expansion Pack family membership group qualify for those parts: Nintendo UK’s eligibility explanation.

Some elements also require playing the associated game while the item is available. One possible condition is having played on at least three separate days in the previous 30 days; it is not a universal requirement. Read the particular mission or element details rather than assuming that membership alone is enough.

How often do the rewards change?

Nintendo describes themes as changing monthly and icon elements as refreshing weekly. These are general rotation patterns, not a promise that a particular item will return. The console catalog is the reliable place to check what is available now, its point cost, and its qualification rules. Nintendo’s support page directs users to the console for current items and conditions.

Can I combine parts from different games?

Icon elements can be combined with parts from the same game or collection, or with generic frames and backgrounds. Parts from different game collections do not necessarily mix: for example, Animal Crossing: New Horizons parts cannot be combined with Super Mario Odyssey parts. If a character element already includes a background, a separate background may not be selectable. Nintendo’s icon guide describes the collection and combination rules.

What happens to saved rewards if my membership ends?

Nintendo says redeemed elements remain in your Icon Collection even if your Nintendo Switch Online membership ends. Exclusive Expansion Pack parts also remain in the collection after they have been redeemed, even if the Expansion Pack membership ends. The rewards are tied to the Nintendo Account that obtained them: they appear on consoles linked to that account, cannot be shared with another Nintendo Account, and the collection can hold up to 100 user icons. See Nintendo’s Expansion Pack FAQ and Icon Collection support page.

Why is an icon element missing?

Check these details in the console before assuming an element is unavailable to your account:

  • Selected user: Confirm that you opened Nintendo Switch Online with the intended user account.
  • Catalog and game: Check the currently displayed game and this week’s available elements; older rotations have no guaranteed return schedule.
  • Points: Confirm that you collected mission rewards and have enough Platinum Points for the element.
  • Membership tier: Look for an Expansion Pack requirement on exclusive parts.
  • Gameplay condition: Read the mission or element details for any requirement to play the relevant game within a stated period.
