What does the Switch 2 Edition add to Tears of the Kingdom?
Nintendo says the Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is available now and adds higher resolution, improved frame rates, HDR, faster loading, and ZELDA NOTES. Nintendo identifies this edition as playable only on Switch 2. By contrast, the original Switch release is marked supported on Switch 2 with behavior consistent with Switch. See the Switch 2 Edition listing and the original Switch game listing.
The distinction is about the edition, not whether the original game can run on the newer console: Switch 2 can play the compatible Switch version, while the Switch 2 Edition’s added features require Switch 2.
Can you bring your Zelda saves and DLC?
Nintendo says save data from the Switch versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom can be carried over to their Switch 2 Editions. Nintendo’s FAQ says those editions support cloud save data on Switch 2. There is one important limitation for Tears of the Kingdom: a second save file created in the Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred back to the original Switch game. Check Nintendo’s Switch 2 FAQ for the applicable save details.

Should you buy Switch 2 now or keep your Switch?
Choose Switch 2 if you want the announced exclusive
If playing the announced Ocarina of Time release is your deciding factor, Switch 2 is the only choice established by Nintendo’s current listing and announcement. It also gives you access to the Switch 2 Editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, as well as many compatible original Switch games.
Keep your Switch if you only want to play your current Switch library
If you are content with the original Switch versions of Zelda games you already own and do not need Switch 2 Edition features or the announced exclusive, the cited information does not establish a need to replace your console. For a specific game, verify its compatibility rather than generalizing from one title.

Compare current local offers separately; the platform requirement for Ocarina of Time is a compatibility fact, not a price comparison.
