An active, paid Nintendo Switch Online membership qualifies you to buy one of each; playing the Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics library additionally requires Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
What you can buy and what it costs
Nintendo offers two ways to use the Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics library: a replica-style Virtual Boy accessory and a lower-cost cardboard model. Nintendo’s September 2025 announcement listed US regular prices of $99.99 for the replica and $24.99 for the cardboard model. Those are announcement-page prices, not a confirmation of current checkout pricing or stock; check the live Nintendo announcement and store listing before ordering.
| Option | US regular price shown by Nintendo in 2025 | What is included | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Virtual Boy replica accessory | $99.99 | Accessory, stand, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch attachments, eye shade, and lens cover | Players who want the replica-style hardware setup |
| Virtual Boy Cardboard Model | $24.99 | Cardboard model only | Players seeking the lower-priced accessory option |
Both accessories are required alternatives for playing the Virtual Boy library; neither is a substitute for the Expansion Pack membership needed to access the games.
Who can buy the accessories, and where
Nintendo Support says purchase is limited to active, paid Nintendo Switch Online members, including members on either the standard tier or Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. A free-trial membership does not qualify. Nintendo says the accessories are available only through Nintendo Store in the United States and Canada, with a limit of one of each accessory per Nintendo Account. Nintendo Support also states that they are not a limited-time offer. See the Virtual Boy Accessories Overview & FAQ for the current terms.

What membership you need to play
Buying an accessory and playing the games have different membership requirements. An active paid Nintendo Switch Online plan can make you eligible to purchase, but the Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics library requires Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. See Nintendo’s Nintendo Classics overview and instructions for accessing the game libraries.
