Rockstar’s current GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, not Switch 2, for the game’s November 19, 2026 release. No Switch 2 launch platform has been announced on Rockstar’s current page.
What Nintendo means by a “diversity” of games
In a 2026 report republishing an interview with Variety, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard said: “We want to provide a diversity in terms of the types of experiences that you can have on the game system, and that’s really important for us.” The report’s headline said Nintendo could not confirm whether Grand Theft Auto VI would release on Switch 2. This is a reported interview statement, not a Nintendo announcement of a GTA VI deal, rejection, or platform plan. [c001]

Nintendo has described a similar broad aim in its own developer interview. Takuhiro Dohta said: “From the beginning of development, we wanted Switch 2 to be a console that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of players.” He also said, “We believe the act of finding the game you want to play is itself part of the game console experience.” Those comments discuss the console’s intended audience and experience, not the status of any one third-party game. Rockstar’s official GTA VI page currently lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and gives a release date of November 19, 2026. It does not list Switch 2. The precise answer is that Rockstar has not announced Switch 2 as a launch platform on its current page; that absence does not prove a later port is impossible. [c003]

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Rockstar’s page describes Jason and Lucia in the state of Leonida and labels PlayStation 5 as the system the game “Plays Best On.” That is the wording on the page, not evidence about how a possible version for another system would perform. [c003]
Why Switch compatibility does not answer the GTA VI question
Nintendo says it has been checking the Switch game library one title at a time for compatibility with Switch 2. Developer Takuhiro Sasaki said the library included more than 10,000 Switch games. That figure describes the library being checked, not a current count of games confirmed to be fully compatible. Nintendo’s developers also cautioned that some games might not be supported or fully compatible. [c002]

- The next evolution of the Nintendo Switch system

- Nintendo Switch 2 plays compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games.***
Backward compatibility concerns games from the previous Switch generation. It is separate from whether a new game such as GTA VI is announced for Switch 2. Nintendo’s discussion of compatibility therefore does not establish that Rockstar plans to release GTA VI on the console.

What a past Take-Two pipeline slide does—and does not—show
A 2025 Take-Two investor presentation listed GTA VI in its pipeline and named several Switch 2 releases from Take-Two labels. The slide was a dated snapshot and warned that launch timing could change. It is not evidence of a Switch 2 version of GTA VI or a current release schedule; Rockstar’s current game page is the relevant source for its present platform listing. [c004] [c003]
