The land also contains Key Challenges, interactive games, a restaurant and a merchandise shop, but those are not additional rides.
That distinction matters if you are planning your day around attractions. Bowser’s Castle houses the land’s signature ride, while the rest of the area is designed for walk-through play, wristband-enabled activities, food and shopping.

The short answer: one ride
California’s SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is the Nintendo-themed land at Universal Studios Hollywood. Its ride count is one: Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. Universal presents this attraction separately from the land’s interactive games, Key Challenges, Toadstool Cafe and 1-UP Factory. Nintendo’s opening announcement also identifies Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge as SUPER NINTENDO WORLD’s “signature ride.”
There is no second roller coaster, dark ride or separate Bowser Jr. ride inside the California land. The apparent confusion comes from the number of things to do there. Visitors can complete several game activities and explore themed spaces, but those experiences do not increase the ride count.

What the one ride is
Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge
Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is a 3D/4D interactive attraction located in Bowser’s Castle. Riders wear special goggles, steer through courses, collect coins and throw shells while competing against Team Bowser. The attraction combines a physical ride system with game-like aiming and steering, so your participation affects the on-screen competition rather than leaving you as a passive passenger.
Universal describes courses that travel underwater and into the clouds. The objective is to collect coins and throw shells in an attempt to win the Golden Cup. Those details explain why the attraction is often described as an interactive Mario Kart experience rather than a conventional track ride.
Height and supervision rules
The published minimum height for Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is 40 inches (102 centimetres). Children shorter than that threshold cannot ride under the stated requirement. Children under 48 inches (122 centimetres) must ride with a supervising companion.

These are the ride’s stated height rules, not a general height requirement for entering SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. A child can enter the land and take part in suitable activities without being tall enough for Mario Kart, subject to the park’s current operating policies.
Why the Key Challenges are not extra rides
Game activities throughout the land
Key Challenges are interactive game stations placed around SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. They are designed as objectives to complete while walking through the land, rather than as vehicles that carry guests along a ride track or through a ride show. Completing the required challenges can unlock a confrontation with Bowser Jr., but that encounter is still part of the interactive game system, not a separate ride.

The same distinction applies to the smaller interactive games and activities distributed through the area. They may involve physical movement, timed actions, targets or digital effects, but Universal categorizes them as gameplay. Counting each challenge as a ride would make the land’s activity count look much larger than its actual ride count.
Power-Up Band requirement and extra charge
Universal says a Power-Up Band is required for the Key Challenges and that the band carries an additional charge. The band connects your participation to the land’s digital systems. It can track Mario Kart scores, digital coins and stamps as you move through the activities.

Toadstool Cafe
Toadstool Cafe is the themed dining venue inside the land. It is a restaurant, not an attraction with a ride vehicle. Its inclusion in the land map can contribute to the impression that SUPER NINTENDO WORLD contains several attractions, but dining does not change the one-ride count.
1-UP Factory
1-UP Factory is the Nintendo-themed merchandise shop. It is another destination to visit after the ride or games, not a ride or show. The shop and the restaurant are useful itinerary stops, especially for visitors who want a complete themed experience, but they belong in separate categories from Mario Kart.

Ride versus interactive experience

How to plan your visit when there is one ride
1. Decide whether Mario Kart is the priority
If your group wants a ride, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is the land’s only one. Check every child’s height against the 40-inch minimum before making it the centerpiece of the day. A child between 40 and 48 inches can ride only with a supervising companion under the published rule.
2. Separate ride time from game time
Allow a different part of your itinerary for Key Challenges and interactive games. They are not alternate queues for Mario Kart and do not substitute for the ride. If your group wants to complete the challenges, plan for the time needed to move between game stations and for each participant to use the required Power-Up Band.
3. Budget for the Power-Up Band only if you want Key Challenges
Universal states that the Power-Up Band is an additional-charge requirement for Key Challenges. Treat it as an optional activity cost rather than part of the ride count. If your group is interested only in the attraction, ask at the park about current procedures for Mario Kart rather than assuming a band is needed.
4. Add dining and shopping as separate stops
Toadstool Cafe and 1-UP Factory are inside the land, so they can be added before or after the ride and games. They are not rides, and their availability, ordering process and operating hours can change. Check the park’s current information on the day of your visit.

5. Verify current park operations
The ride count is stable in the official descriptions cited for the California land, but operating details such as opening times, temporary closures, reservations, admission arrangements and retail inventory are practical matters that can change. Confirm those details with Universal Studios Hollywood before traveling. The phrase “one ride” describes the land’s attraction lineup; it does not guarantee that the ride will be operating every minute of your visit.

“Does Nintendo World California have more than Mario Kart?”
It has more than one thing to do, but not more than one ride. Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is the sole ride. Key Challenges and other games are interactive activities, while Toadstool Cafe and 1-UP Factory are dining and retail venues.
“Is Bowser Jr. a ride?”
No. Bowser Jr. is associated with the Key Challenge game sequence. Reaching that encounter is part of the wristband-enabled interactive experience, not boarding a separate attraction.
“Are the Key Challenges like rides?”
They can feel active and game-like, but they are walk-through challenges rather than rides. Guests move around the land, complete objectives and use the Power-Up Band to record coins, stamps and scores. There is no published ride height requirement for the games.
“Can a child enter if they are too short for Mario Kart?”
The published 40-inch minimum applies to Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. It does not establish a minimum height for entering the land itself. Activities have different formats, and Universal does not publish a ride height requirement for the Key Challenges in the supplied attraction information. How the ride differs from a standard Mario Kart game
Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge uses physical ride hardware, 3D/4D effects and special goggles, but it also asks riders to perform game actions. Steering, coin collection and shell throwing are integrated into the attraction. The goal is not simply to watch a Mario Kart scene; it is to compete against Team Bowser and work toward the Golden Cup while moving through themed courses.
That hybrid design is the reason visitor descriptions can sound as though the land has many rides. A single ride can contain several courses, game objectives and outcomes. Those components are features of Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, not separate attractions that should be added to the count.
What the official descriptions establish
The count of one is an evidence-based count of the sole ride listed for SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Universal Studios Hollywood. The official descriptions do not present a separate numeric statistic saying “one ride”; instead, they identify Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge as the signature ride and list the other offerings as games, dining or shopping.
That wording is important when comparing California with other Nintendo-themed lands or future expansions. A land can add new games, shops or restaurants without adding a ride. For the California location covered here, the current lineup described by Universal and Nintendo contains one ride and several non-ride experiences.
