Nintendo’s new Light Purple / Light Green Joy-Con 2 pair launched in the United States on February 12, 2026, alongside Mario Tennis Fever. They are designed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 and offer the same core features as the original Joy-Con 2 colors. The main catch is visual: these are mostly dark controllers with purple and green accents, not fully recolored shells.

What Nintendo released

The set is officially named Joy-Con 2 (L)/(R) Light Purple / Light Green. The left controller is Light Purple, while the right controller is Light Green. They are sold together as a single L/R pair, rather than as separate left and right products.

The U.S. set includes one left Joy-Con 2, one right Joy-Con 2, and two Joy-Con 2 straps. It does not include a Switch 2 console, a Joy-Con 2 grip, a charging grip, or a game. Nintendo lists the product under SKU 127067 and UPC 00045496886509.

They are accent colors, not full-color shells

The most important detail is easy to miss in announcement headlines. The controllers’ main outer shells remain dark or graphite-colored. The purple and green are concentrated primarily around the thumbstick areas and the inner attachment rails.

#1 Best Overall
Nintendo Joy-Con™ 2 (L)/(R) Light Purple/Light Green
  • Only for use with the Nintendo Switch 2 system.

That makes the new pair more understated than the fully colored Joy-Con editions released for the original Nintendo Switch. The accents are easier to notice when the controllers are detached and used separately, while much of the color is hidden when they are attached to the console or placed in a grip.

Some contemporary coverage criticized the design as a limited visual refresh, but that is an opinion rather than an objective product specification. Buyers expecting entirely purple and green controllers should look closely at the product images before purchasing.

Price and availability

Launch coverage reported a U.S. price of $99.99, matching the price commonly associated with a standard Joy-Con 2 pair. That figure should be treated as the reported launch price rather than a guarantee of the current sale price. Retail pricing, discounts, stock, and resale prices can change.

  • The updated Joy-Con 2 controllers have motion controls and HD rumble 2, along with the new C Button for easy GameChat* access and all-new mouse controls in compatible games.
  • This set includes both a left and right Joy-Con 2 controller (along with a pair of Joy-Con 2 straps)—perfect for local multiplayer with a friend in compatible games.
  • Includes two Joy-Con 2 straps.
  • Only for use with the Nintendo Switch 2 system.

Nintendo’s U.S. product page confirms the February 12 release date, but availability depends on the country and retailer. Check the official product listing for current pricing and stock before buying.

Features: the same Joy-Con 2 experience

Nintendo’s product information identifies the usual Joy-Con 2 features:

  • Motion controls
  • HD rumble
  • Mouse controls in compatible games
  • A right-controller C Button for GameChat
  • Use as a pair or as separate controllers in supported local multiplayer games

The Light Purple / Light Green release is a color and design variant, not an announced performance revision. Nintendo has not identified new battery-life improvements, revised analog sticks, reduced drift risk, stronger attachment hardware, or other functional changes for this set.

Joy-Con™ 2 (L)/(R) Blue/Light Yellow
  • These updated Joy-Con 2 controllers have a color scheme inspired by Deep Cut from the Splatoon franchise. They have HD rumble, easy-to-use motion and mouse controls, and a C Button for easy GameChat* access (available in compatible games).

Mouse controls are also game-dependent; the controllers do not become a universal mouse input across every Switch 2 game. Similarly, the C Button provides access to GameChat but does not remove the service’s other requirements. Online features may require internet access, a Nintendo Account, and Nintendo Switch Online. Video chat additionally requires a Switch 2 camera or compatible USB-C webcam, and availability can vary by country.

Switch 2 compatibility only

These controllers are not compatible with the original Nintendo Switch. Nintendo explicitly describes the new pair as being for use with Nintendo Switch 2 only.

That restriction matters because the original Switch also has many Joy-Con color variants. The new purple and green pair should not be treated as a general replacement for original Switch Joy-Con, even though both products share the Joy-Con name.

Joy-Con™ 2 (L) Light Blue
  • The Joy-Con 2 (L) controller includes the Capture Button.
  • Only for use with the Nintendo Switch 2 system.

Do you need a charging grip?

No. The controllers can be attached directly to a Switch 2 and used in handheld mode. However, anyone who wants a more traditional controller shape while playing on a television may want the separately sold Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip.

The charging grip holds the detached controllers and can charge them, but it does not include Joy-Con 2 controllers. Nintendo also notes that the Switch 2 charging grip is not compatible with original Nintendo Switch Joy-Con.

How they compare with the original Switch 2 colors

Nintendo’s Switch 2 accessories lineup also includes the launch-color Light Blue / Light Red Joy-Con 2 pair. The two sets share the same broad feature set, included straps, and Switch 2-only compatibility.

Nintendo’s U.S. interface has also displayed a Blue/Light Yellow selection, but the available product information does not establish its release date, price, or current U.S. availability. It should not be treated as a confirmed alternative purchase without checking a live official listing.

Should you buy the new Joy-Con 2 colors?

They make sense if you:

  • Want a different look for an existing Switch 2.
  • Prefer the purple-and-green pairing to the launch-color set.
  • Need a replacement for damaged or worn controllers.
  • Want another pair for local multiplayer.
  • Collect Nintendo hardware and accessories.

Consider skipping them if you:

  • Expect fully purple and green external shells.
  • Already own working Joy-Con 2 and want a performance upgrade.
  • Own an original Switch rather than Switch 2.
  • Need a grip or charging solution but have not budgeted for one.
  • Would have to pay a large resale premium for unchanged functionality.

The bottom line on Nintendo’s new Joy-Con 2 colors

The Light Purple / Light Green Joy-Con 2 pair is a cosmetic refresh rather than a new controller revision. It launched on February 12, 2026, works only with Nintendo Switch 2, and retains the standard Joy-Con 2 features. Its value depends mostly on whether the restrained pastel accents justify the cost for your setup, collection, replacement needs, or local multiplayer use.
