The correct repair depends on the program that requested the file:
- If SQL Server or a database application reports the error, repair or add SQL Server Full-Text Search.
- If the file belongs to Windows language resources, reinstall Simplified Chinese and run DISM followed by SFC.
- If only one application reports the error, repair or reinstall that application.
- If antivirus quarantined the file, verify the owning path before restoring anything.
Find the caller before changing Windows
The error dialog usually identifies the executable that failed. Write down its name before closing the message.
For example, an error naming a SQL Server service or database tool points toward SQL Server. An error appearing only when launching one game or application points toward that program. A message during Windows sign-in, language installation, or system maintenance points more strongly toward Windows language resources.

A SQL Server copy normally belongs under an instance-specific path similar to:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server<instance>MSSQLBinn
Microsoft documents this SQL Server Binn location in its word-breaker version guidance.
Do not assume every copy belongs in C:WindowsSystem32. The process architecture and owning product determine the correct location.

Check Event Viewer
If the dialog does not identify the caller:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Select entries created at the time of the failure.
- Look for Faulting application name, Faulting module name, or an application installer and service name.
You can also open Task Manager, select the process that triggers the problem, right-click it, and choose Open file location. This helps distinguish SQL Server from a game, launcher, utility, or Windows process.
Fix 1: Repair or add SQL Server Full-Text Search
SQL Server is the most specific owner when the error appears during database search, indexing, database attachment, SQL Server startup, or an application that queries SQL Server Full-Text Search.
Full-Text Search is optional. If it was never installed, the required linguistic files may not exist even though the main SQL Server installation is healthy.

Add the missing SQL Server feature
Use installation media matching the SQL Server release and instance:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Mount or open the original SQL Server installation media.
- Run
setup.exeas administrator. - Select Installation.
- Choose the option to add features to an existing instance.
- Select the affected SQL Server instance.
- On the feature selection page, select Full-Text and Semantic Extractions for Search.
- Continue through Setup and allow it to complete.
- Restart the SQL Server service and retry the operation.
Microsoft’s Full-Text Search setup guidance explains the feature selection.
Repair a damaged SQL Server installation
If Full-Text Search is already installed:
- Open the matching SQL Server installation media.
- Run
setup.exeas administrator. - Select Maintenance.
- Choose Repair.
- Select the affected instance.
- Repair the shared components and the instance when Setup presents those choices.
- Reboot Windows.
- Test the database operation again.
Microsoft also documents this repair command:
setup.exe /ACTION=REPAIR /INDICATEPROGRESS=TRUE
Run it from the appropriate SQL Server installation media, not from an unrelated Setup folder. The SQL Server repair documentation covers this process.
A successful repair should restore the matching linguistic files together in the instance’s MSSQLBinn directory. If the error remains, check SQL Server Setup logs and verify that the application is using the same instance you repaired.
Do not copy the four language files from another SQL Server computer. Their versions must match the instance, and mixing releases can leave the word breaker, data, lexicon, and model components inconsistent.

If the path points to Windows language resources, or the problem began after removing a language pack or changing Windows language features, reinstall the required language.
- Open Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Choose Language & region.
- Select Add a language.
- Search for Chinese (Simplified, China).
- Select it and choose Next.
- Select the required language features.
- Choose Install.
- Restart Windows and repeat the operation that failed.
Microsoft’s Simplified Chinese IME instructions describe the language installation path.
On managed or offline systems, the language pack and Features on Demand packages must match the installed Windows build. Do not use packages from a different Windows release merely because the language name looks identical. Microsoft explains this version-matching requirement in its Windows language overview.
Fix 3: Repair the Windows component store
Use DISM and SFC when the file belongs to Windows resources, Windows servicing failed, or several protected system files are behaving incorrectly.
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the affected application or service.
DISM repairs the component store that Windows uses as a repair source. SFC then checks protected system files against that repaired store. Microsoft specifically recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker instructions.

If SFC reports that it repaired files, reboot and test again. If it reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the commands after Windows Update has completed, then inspect the CBS logs or move to the SQL Server or application repair path. DISM and SFC cannot repair an application-private copy or an incorrectly installed SQL Server instance.
Running these scans repeatedly without checking what changed can make troubleshooting slow and uncertain. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what it identifies; its full version performs the repair, but it is optional and does not replace reinstalling the owning application or SQL Server feature.
Fix 4: Repair the application that reports the error
If one game, launcher, editor, or utility alone triggers the message, repair that program before changing Windows.
For a Microsoft Store or supported Windows application:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the application.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Launch the application again.
If there is no Repair option, uninstall the application, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the developer’s official installer or supported store. Use the same architecture and release family as the original installation where the installer offers a choice.
An application-private copy may sit beside the program’s executable rather than in a Windows folder. In that case, Windows repair tools will not restore it. Reinstalling the parent application is the definitive fix.
Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a legitimate component after an update, failed installation, or detection event.
In Windows Security:
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review detections from the time the error began.
- Expand a relevant entry and record the original file path.
- Restore the file only if the path, digital signature, and owning installation are verified.
- Otherwise, run a scan and reinstall the parent component.
Do not disable antivirus protection just to force an unknown DLL into System32. A quarantined file with an unexpected path may indicate a damaged installation or a security problem rather than a missing Windows file.
Version and architecture mistakes to avoid
A 32-bit process needs compatible 32-bit dependencies, while a 64-bit process needs compatible 64-bit components. That does not mean you should install random copies of both architectures.
For SQL Server, the files must match the instance version and feature installation. For an application, use the files delivered by that application’s installer. Do not mix copies from Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11, or different SQL Server releases.
Public DLL catalogues can show conflicting version, size, and architecture information. Those listings are not a safe basis for replacement, and Microsoft does not provide a verified standalone download for this individual DLL.

Why Visual C++, DirectX, and regsvr32 usually do not help
NL7Lexicons0804.dll is part of a language-search component set, not a normal Visual C++ runtime, DirectX library, graphics driver, or game middleware file. Installing those packages may be appropriate for a different error, but it does not restore this language component.
regsvr32 is also not a general DLL repair command. It is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified reason to manually register this lexicon component.
If you run regsvr32 against it, Windows may report that the module could not be loaded or that the entry point is missing. That result does not prove the file is bad. It usually means registration was not the correct operation.
Driver updates are not the first fix
A graphics, chipset, or storage driver normally has no direct relationship with this language lexicon. Use Device Manager only if the same incident includes a separate hardware problem:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category.
- Right-click the device.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers, or install a driver obtained from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test again.
Avoid updating unrelated drivers solely because this DLL is missing. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify what needs attention; its full version installs drivers, but a driver update will not replace a missing SQL Server or application language file.
If the error still appears
Use the failure context to choose the next escalation:
- SQL Server still fails: inspect SQL Server Setup logs, verify the instance’s
MSSQLBinnpath, and rerun repair using matching media. - One application still fails: uninstall it, restart Windows, and install a clean copy from its official source.
- The issue began after an update: complete pending Windows and SQL Server servicing, then consider System Restore if a suitable restore point exists.
- DISM and SFC succeed but the error remains: the missing file is probably application-private, SQL Server-specific, or a dependency problem.
- The message says “specified module could not be found” while the DLL exists: another dependency may be missing. Repair the owning product rather than replacing the named DLL alone.
Microsoft’s recovery options explain System Restore and broader Windows recovery choices. System Restore rolls back system files and settings, not personal files, but it should be used only after identifying the change that preceded the failure.
FAQ
Does 0804 identify Simplified Chinese?
Yes. Microsoft lists the component set for Simplified Chinese with language ID 2052. The same set is also listed for Chinese Singapore, LCID 4100.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Is this a normal Windows system DLL?
It is a Microsoft language component, but its correct location depends on the installation that owns it. SQL Server commonly places it in the instance-specific MSSQLBinn directory. Do not assume it belongs in System32.
Can I download it separately?
There is no verified official Microsoft standalone download for this individual file. Downloading an arbitrary copy risks the wrong version, architecture, signature, or a tampered file.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
No, not as a routine fix. This is a linguistic data component, and there is no evidence that manually registering it repairs the problem.
Why does the error mention this file when it is already present?
The named DLL may be present while one of its dependencies is missing or incompatible. Repairing the owning SQL Server feature, Windows language component, or application restores the complete matching stack.
