Windows may show “The program can’t start because nleimageproc.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” Other dialogs report that nleimageproc.dll was not found, could not be loaded, or is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error.
The 60-second answer
nleimageproc.dll is an application DLL, not an established Windows component, Visual C++ file, or DirectX file. Its public description is ImagePro 动态链接库, or “ImagePro Dynamic-Link Library,” but the publisher and parent application have not been reliably identified.
The safest fix is to identify the program named in the error, then repair or reinstall that program using its original installer or launcher. Do not download a loose copy of nleimageproc.dll and place it in System32 or SysWOW64.
What causes the error
The likely causes, in order, are:
| Cause | What it means | Correct response |
|---|---|---|
| Damaged installation | The application folder is missing the DLL or another required file | Repair or reinstall the application |
| Antivirus quarantine | Windows Security or another antivirus removed the file | Check Protection History, then repair the application |
| Wrong architecture | A 32-bit application received a 64-bit DLL, or the reverse | Install the build supplied with the application |
| Missing dependency | The DLL exists, but another DLL it needs does not | Reinstall the complete application bundle |
| Failed update or cleanup | An update, migration, cleanup utility, or disk problem removed files | Repair the application and investigate recurring file loss |
| Malicious replacement | An unknown DLL was copied into an unexpected folder | Scan the system and reinstall from a trusted source |
The name “NLE” may suggest non-linear editing, but that interpretation is not verified. No reliable public source identifies a particular video editor, game, driver, or Windows feature that owns this file.

What is known about nleimageproc.dll
Public file indexes describe nleimageproc.dll as an ImagePro dynamic-link library with an unknown or unrecorded publisher. Indexed records include a 32-bit build numbered 3.2.2.15 and measuring approximately 6.92 MB. Other public metadata records a 64-bit build, but these third-party records do not establish which application supplied either build.
That information is useful for comparison only. It is not proof that a downloaded file is genuine.
The DLL should normally remain beside the executable that uses it. Windows searches an application directory before its normal system directories, and Microsoft recommends keeping application-specific DLLs with the application rather than copying them globally. See Microsoft’s guidance on DLL search order and DLL redirection.
Fix 1: Identify and repair the application
This is the most likely solution.
1. Read the complete error dialog
Note the name of the application shown in the title bar or message. If Windows reports the error while launching a shortcut, right-click that shortcut, select Properties, and check the Target field.
If the message appears inside a launcher, note the game or application selected there. If the error appears during installation, the installer itself may be incomplete.
2. Check the application folder
Right-click the application’s shortcut and select Open file location. Look for nleimageproc.dll in the same folder as the main executable or in one of its application subfolders.
- If the file is absent, the installation is incomplete or damaged.
- If it exists but the error remains, another dependency may be missing, or the file may be the wrong architecture or build.
- Do not copy a DLL from another application simply because the filenames match.
3. Use the application’s repair option
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
Select the affected application, choose Advanced options if available, and select Repair. Some desktop programs instead provide Modify, Repair, or Change in Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

Restart Windows and launch the application again. If the same message appears, return to the application entry and choose Reset only if you understand that it may remove application settings.
4. Verify files through the launcher
For software installed through Steam, Epic Games, Microsoft Store, or another launcher, use that product’s file verification or repair feature. The exact wording differs, but it normally scans the installation and restores missing files.
If verification fails, uninstall the application, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the original developer installer or the same trusted launcher. Reinstalling the parent application is the definitive fix when the owning product is known.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
An antivirus product may remove or quarantine an application DLL after an update or repackaging event.
Open:
Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history
Look for an action involving nleimageproc.dll or the affected application.
Restore the file only when all of the following are true:
- You recognize and trust the application.
- It was installed from its original developer or a trusted launcher.
- The antivirus event clearly refers to that installation.
- You will immediately update or repair the application afterward.
Microsoft warns that allowing a genuinely malicious file can put the device at risk. If you do not recognize the application or the file appeared after an untrusted download, do not restore it. Remove the application and reinstall it from a known source instead. Microsoft’s Protection History guidance explains the review and restore workflow.

Do not disable antivirus merely to force an unknown DLL into an application folder.
Fix 3: Match the correct architecture
A 32-bit program requires its 32-bit dependencies, even when it runs on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit program requires 64-bit dependencies. A file with the right name but the wrong architecture can produce messages such as:
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located.”
- “The file is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
Use the build bundled with the affected application. Do not select a file based only on a listed version, size, or checksum from an index.
Do not place unrelated copies in both C:WindowsSystem32 and C:WindowsSysWOW64. On 64-bit Windows, System32 is the native 64-bit system directory, while SysWOW64 contains redirected 32-bit system files. Microsoft’s explanation of this behavior is available under File System Redirector.

nleimageproc.dll is not identified as part of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Installing VC++ will not specifically recreate this application DLL.
Use the runtime’s repair or installation only if the error also names files such as:
VCRUNTIME140.dllVCRUNTIME140_1.dllMSVCP140.dll
Microsoft provides separate x86 and x64 Visual C++ packages on its latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads page. A 32-bit application generally needs the x86 package, even on 64-bit Windows.
After installing or repairing the indicated runtime, restart Windows and test the application. If the original error still names nleimageproc.dll, repair the parent application rather than repeatedly reinstalling runtimes.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components when Windows itself is damaged
System File Checker and DISM repair protected Windows components. They are unlikely to recreate an application-private DLL, so use them when several Windows features are malfunctioning or corruption affects more than this one program.
Right-click Start, select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin), and approve the User Account Control prompt. Run these commands in order:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
Wait for each command to finish. Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. Restart Windows after both commands complete, then test the affected application.
If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, run the DISM command again after Windows Update is working, then repeat sfc /scannow. If only the application still fails, return to application repair rather than treating this as proof that Windows should contain nleimageproc.dll. Microsoft’s System File Checker instructions cover these commands.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Manually hunting through Windows components and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan finds, while repairs are performed by the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 6: Check drivers only when the application points to one
A graphics or media driver does not normally supply nleimageproc.dll, but a failure that began immediately after a driver update may involve the application’s media pipeline.
To check drivers:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and any category related to the affected hardware.
- Right-click the relevant device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Use Update driver to search automatically, or install a driver from the hardware manufacturer’s official support channel.
- If the problem began immediately after an update, select Roll Back Driver when available.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not use Device Manager to replace nleimageproc.dll. It manages hardware drivers, not arbitrary application files.
Manually checking many hardware models and matching driver packages can involve a great deal of version hunting. Outbyte Driver Updater can show what its free scan identifies, while driver installation is handled by the full version; it is optional and does not replace reinstalling the application that owns nleimageproc.dll.
Does regsvr32 fix nleimageproc.dll
Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general DLL repair command. Running:
regsvr32 nleimageproc.dll
may produce an error stating that the entry point is missing. That normally means the file is not a self-registering COM component, not that another copy should be downloaded.

Use regsvr32 only when the application’s official documentation specifically says that this DLL must be registered. Microsoft’s regsvr32 documentation explains its purpose and syntax.
What not to do
- Do not download
nleimageproc.dllfrom a random DLL download site. - Do not copy it into
System32orSysWOW64. - Do not use registry cleaners or automatic DLL-fix utilities as the first response.
- Do not assume Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a graphics driver supplies this file.
- Do not trust a third-party checksum or threat score as proof of provenance.
- Do not mix 32-bit and 64-bit copies.
- Do not whitelist an unknown DLL merely because it has the correct filename.
A loose download may contain malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible build, or a file that does not include the DLL’s required dependencies. The safe source is the original application’s installer, update mechanism, or trusted launcher.

If the application still fails:
- Record the full error, including any second DLL or entry-point name.
- Check whether
nleimageproc.dllexists beside the application’s executable. - Test the application under another Windows user profile.
- Review antivirus logs and Windows Event Viewer for file-removal or application errors.
- If files continue disappearing, check the disk and investigate the cause before reinstalling again.
- If the problem began after a known installation or cleanup event, use Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and select an appropriate restore point.
System Restore is a fallback, not the normal repair for an application DLL. Microsoft documents restore points in its System Restore documentation.
When every reinstall fails, identify the executable requesting the DLL and examine its complete dependency chain with a reputable PE analysis tool. At that point, contact the application’s publisher with the executable name, application version, Windows architecture, and complete error text.
FAQ
Is nleimageproc.dll a Windows system file?
There is no reliable evidence that it is. It is best treated as an application-private ImagePro-labelled DLL, not a file that should normally exist in System32 or SysWOW64.
Which program installs nleimageproc.dll?
No specific parent application has been reliably identified. The program named in your error dialog is the best starting point.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWill Visual C++ Redistributable fix it?
Not specifically. Install or repair Visual C++ only when the application also reports a missing Microsoft runtime file such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll.
Should I register the file with regsvr32?
Usually not. regsvr32 applies to self-registering DLLs and does not restore missing application files.
What if the DLL exists but Windows still says it is missing?
The message may refer to a dependency of nleimageproc.dll, not the file itself. Repair the complete application and inspect the full error for another missing DLL or an architecture mismatch.
Can I copy the DLL from another computer?
Do not do so unless the other computer has the same application, version, architecture, and trusted installation source. Reinstalling the application is safer and restores the surrounding dependency set.
