nmlogcxx.dll is a legacy Nero Home application file, not a Windows system component. If Windows reports that nmlogcxx.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or reinstall the Nero product that originally installed it instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
Quick identification
| Item | Verified information |
|---|---|
| File | nmlogcxx.dll |
| Reported description | Nero Home |
| Associated software | Nero Home |
| Publisher | Nero AG |
| Category | Application file |
| Reported historical location | C:Program FilesCommon Filesaheadlib |
| Windows component | No evidence that it ships with Windows |
| Version, size, hash, architecture | Not publicly verified |
The reported folder is not a universal requirement. A legitimate installation may use a different program directory depending on the Nero release, Windows architecture, and installation choices.
What the nmlogcxx.dll error means
Windows may display wording such as:
- “The program can’t start because nmlogcxx.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because nmlogcxx.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting nmlogcxx.dll.”
- “nmlogcxx.dll could not be loaded.”
- “nmlogcxx.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library nmlogcxx.dll.”
The exact wording depends on the Windows version, the Nero executable that called the file, and whether the cause is deletion, corruption, a mismatched file, or another missing dependency.
The affected application is usually an older Nero component rather than Windows itself. Check the title bar or the name of the executable in the error dialog. If the message appears when launching Nero Home, a Nero media-center shortcut, or an old Nero suite, repair that installation first.

Nero Home is not automatically Nero MediaHome
Nero Home is an older Nero media-center product. Nero MediaHome is a separate Nero product with a similar name and should not be treated as a guaranteed replacement.
Current Nero downloads focus on supported products such as Nero MediaHome, Nero Burning ROM, Nero Video, and Nero Platinum. Current installers may not contain the same legacy nmlogcxx.dll file. Installing a modern Nero product simply because its name contains “MediaHome” may leave the original error unchanged.
Before repairing anything, identify which Nero product is installed:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Nero.
- Note the complete product name and version.
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error and select Open file location, if available.
- Record the executable name shown in the shortcut’s Properties window.
If the computer was upgraded from an older Nero release, the error may refer to a product that is no longer fully installed.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFix 1: Run Nero Start Repair
This is the safest first repair when Nero Start is installed.
- Close all Nero applications.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Nero Start.
- Open Nero Start.
- Sign in if Nero requests it.
- Find the installed Nero product associated with the error.
- Select Repair, Repair now, or the repair option shown for that product.
- Allow the repair to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the same Nero application again.
Nero Start’s repair function checks for damaged files or configurations and attempts to restore the installation. Check Nero Start for updates after the repair completes.
If Nero Start Repair fails
Nero documents a product-specific workaround for repair failures involving its AdvrCntr6 folder:
- Close Nero Start and every Nero process.
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the Nero installation data location identified by Nero’s repair instructions.
- Locate the folder named
AdvrCntr6. - Rename it to
AdvrCntr6-1. - Temporarily pause antivirus or firewall protection only if your security software is blocking the repair.
- Reopen Nero Start.
- Run Repair again.
- Re-enable antivirus and firewall protection immediately after testing.
Do not delete unrelated Nero folders while trying this step. If the folder is not present, do not create random replacements. Continue with an official reinstall.

Fix 2: Reinstall the exact Nero product
Use this step when Repair is unavailable, the installation is incomplete, or the error began after upgrading or uninstalling Nero components.
Before uninstalling
Record the following information:
- Nero product name
- Nero version, if displayed
- License key or account details
- The executable that shows the error
- Any personal media-library settings or project data
Then uninstall Nero through Windows:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Search for the specific Nero product.
- Select the three-dot menu or the product entry.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
After restarting, reinstall the same product from Nero’s official installer or the original installation media. Do not substitute an unrelated modern Nero release if the failing application is Nero Home.
When installation finishes:
- Restart Windows again.
- Open the repaired Nero application.
- Confirm that the error no longer appears.
- Check for updates inside Nero or through Nero’s official support software.
If you moved an old Nero installation to a new PC by copying its folders, remove that incomplete copy and install Nero properly. Copying program directories does not reliably copy services, registry entries, runtimes, or shared files.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an application DLL. That does not automatically mean the file was malicious, and it does not automatically mean the detection was false.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
nmlogcxx.dll, Nero, or the folder containing the Nero executable. - Read the detection name and affected path.
- Do not restore the file if the path is a temporary folder, a download directory, or an unknown program location.
- If the file clearly belongs to a trusted Nero installation, submit the detection to your security vendor and follow its guidance.
- Prefer reinstalling Nero from official media rather than restoring a questionable standalone DLL.
If third-party security software blocked Nero repair, temporarily pause protection only during the repair recommended by Nero, then turn protection back on. Do not leave antivirus disabled while browsing or downloading.
Fix 4: Install the Visual C++ runtime only when that runtime is named
nmlogcxx.dll itself is a Nero file. Installing Visual C++ Redistributable does not recreate or repair that proprietary Nero DLL.
A Visual C++ runtime repair is appropriate when the error also names a Microsoft runtime file, such as:
Rank #2
- MICROSOFT WINDOWS 11 PRO (INGLES) FPP 64-BIT ENG INTL USB FLASH DRIVE
MSVCP140.dllVCRUNTIME140.dllapi-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll
Nero’s guidance for affected applications specifies the x86 Visual C++ Redistributable. This matters even on 64-bit Windows because many older Nero applications are 32-bit.
To repair the runtime:
- Download the supported Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft’s official documentation.
- Choose the
vc_redist.x86.exeinstaller when the Nero application requires the x86 runtime. - Run the installer.
- Accept the license terms.
- Select Repair if the package is already installed.
- Select Install if it is missing.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Nero again.
Do not remove every Visual C++ package from Installed apps. Other applications may depend on those side-by-side runtimes. The x64 package is not a substitute for the x86 package when an older Nero executable needs x86 components.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components only if other programs also fail
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They normally do not recreate a proprietary Nero DLL that was removed from a Nero folder.
Use these commands when multiple unrelated applications fail, Windows reports broader system-file corruption, or a previous repair reports damaged Windows components.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Nero again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, restart and test. If it reports that it could not fix some files, save the result and continue with Nero repair or reinstall rather than repeatedly running the same command.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you prefer not to manually hunt through component-repair results and repeat SFC or DISM without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what it identifies; repair actions are performed by the full version, and reinstalling Nero remains the definitive fix for a missing Nero file.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is useful when the error started immediately after a Nero upgrade, cleanup utility, driver installation, or system change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can reverse software and system-setting changes without normally affecting personal files. It does not replace a missing Nero installation permanently, so reinstall Nero if the error returns.
Fix 7: Use Nero FirstAidKit for a badly damaged installation
Nero FirstAidKit is an advanced cleanup option for cases where normal uninstall and reinstall attempts fail. Nero describes it as a way to remove Nero-related files and registry entries so the product can be installed cleanly.
Use it only after recording your license information and backing up personal Nero data:
- Close all Nero programs.
- Back up project files, media-library data, serial numbers, and account details.
- Obtain Nero FirstAidKit from Nero’s official support instructions.
- Follow the utility’s removal steps exactly.
- Restart Windows when instructed.
- Install the matching Nero product from official media.
- Restart and test the application.
Do not use third-party registry cleaners before reinstalling Nero. Nero warns that cleaner utilities can remove or leave behind registry data in ways that cause installation failures.
Check the file path before trusting it
If a copy of nmlogcxx.dll still exists, inspect its location:
- Press Windows + E.
- Search the Nero installation folders for
nmlogcxx.dll. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Review the General and Details tabs.
- Compare the folder with the Nero installation you recognize.
- Check your antivirus result before opening the file.
The historically reported location is:
C:Program FilesCommon Filesaheadlib
That path is evidence of an older Nero layout, not a guarantee that every installation should use it. There is no verified public information establishing a universal file size, version, hash, digital signature, or 32-bit and 64-bit variant for this DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDriver updates are not the primary fix
A graphics, audio, chipset, or storage driver usually does not restore a missing Nero application DLL. Driver troubleshooting makes sense only when Nero crashes alongside display, audio, capture, or device problems.
To check drivers manually:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the failing hardware.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Note the provider and driver date.
- Use Update Driver or obtain the driver from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test Nero.
If you want to avoid hunting through device categories and guessing which of many drivers is stale, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver issues; the free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version, and reinstalling Nero is still the correct fix for nmlogcxx.dll.
Why regsvr32 is the wrong fix
Do not run:
regsvr32 nmlogcxx.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose an OLE or COM registration entry point. A private Nero runtime or module DLL does not become usable merely because it is registered. The command may produce an error stating that the module was loaded but the entry point was not found, or that the file is not a valid executable module.
Registration also does not repair a wrong version, missing dependency, broken Nero configuration, or incomplete installation.

What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random website
Standalone DLL download sites sites cannot reliably match the file to your Nero build. A downloaded file may be malicious, modified, the wrong architecture, or the wrong version. Copying it into System32, SysWOW64, the Nero folder, or the application folder may create a new loader error instead of fixing the original problem.
Use Nero’s official installer, original product media, Nero Start Repair, or a properly restored antivirus quarantine item whose provenance is clear.
Do not copy the DLL from another computer
Another PC may have a different Nero release, architecture, language pack, or dependency set. A copied DLL can cause “not designed to run on Windows,” entry-point errors, crashes, or silent data corruption.
Do not assume MediaHome replaces Nero Home
The similar names do not prove that the products share the same files. Identify the original application before reinstalling.
Do not install only x64 Visual C++
A 64-bit operating system can run 32-bit Nero software. If the error names a Microsoft runtime and Nero’s instructions specify x86, install or repair the x86 package.
Do not use SFC to restore Nero files
SFC protects Windows system files. It is not a Nero file-recovery tool.
What to send Nero support if the error remains
Collect this information before opening a support request:
- The complete error message
- The executable that displays it
- The full path shown in the error or shortcut
- Nero product name and version
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 edition and architecture
- Whether the installation is Nero Home, Nero MediaHome, or another Nero product
- Whether the issue began after an uninstall, upgrade, cleanup, system-image restore, or move to a new PC
- Antivirus detection name and quarantine path
- Results of Nero Start Repair
- Whether reinstalling from official media changed the error
- Relevant entries from Event Viewer
To open Event Viewer:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
eventvwr.msc
- Press Enter.
- Open Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Look for an error at the time Nero failed.
- Record the faulting application and module names.
This evidence helps distinguish a missing Nero file from a missing Microsoft runtime, a mismatched legacy installation, or a separate Windows problem.

FAQ
Is nmlogcxx.dll part of Windows?
No evidence shows that nmlogcxx.dll ships with Windows or belongs in System32 or SysWOW64. It is associated with Nero Home.
Which application installs it?
The available file identification associates it with Nero Home, published by Nero AG. The exact mapping to every Nero release is not verified.
Where should it be located?
A historical record reports:
C:Program FilesCommon Filesaheadlib
Do not treat that location as universal.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable fix it?
Only if the error also names a Microsoft runtime dependency. It does not replace nmlogcxx.dll.
Should I use regsvr32?
No. This is generally a private application module, not a COM registration DLL.
Is Nero Home the same as Nero MediaHome?
No. They are separate product names, and a current MediaHome installer is not confirmed to contain the legacy Nero Home DLL.
What is the most reliable fix?
Run Nero Start Repair first. If that fails, reinstall the exact Nero product from official Nero media. For a badly damaged installation, use Nero’s documented FirstAidKit cleanup procedure before reinstalling.
What if the error started after antivirus quarantine?
Review the quarantine and detection path. Restore the file only when its Nero origin is clear and your security vendor confirms the action. Otherwise reinstall Nero from official media and report the detection.
Can Windows repair commands restore this DLL?
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They generally will not recreate a missing proprietary Nero file. Use them when other applications also show Windows corruption symptoms.
