If No Rest for the Wicked is crashing on PC, first update the game and check that it is installed on an SSD and that your hardware meets the published requirements. There is no single fix for every crash: Moon Studios has patched specific issues, including a January 2026 crash at boot, but other crashes need to be diagnosed by when they happen and what triggers them.
Start with the game build and PC requirements
Before changing Windows settings or game files, install the latest stable update available to you. Moon Studios’ patch notes document fixes for particular crashes, not a guarantee that every crash has been resolved. For example, Hotfix 5 listed fixes for a crash involving the Plague Column rune and a rare crash caused by exception spam. Steam’s system requirements and support listing are the reference for the game’s published PC requirements.

Steam also says Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics are not supported. Meeting the listed specs does not identify the cause of a particular crash, but it helps rule out a mismatch with the stated requirements.
If it crashes on startup or at boot
A specific boot-crash bug affected some players whose Windows regional settings used a non-Gregorian calendar. On January 23, 2026, Moon Studios said in its official Together Hotfix 1 notes: “We are aware there are certain players experiencing a crash at boot and are working on a fix for Hotfix 2.” The following day, Together Hotfix 2 documented a fix for that issue.

- Update the game to the latest stable build available.
- If the crash still happens before the menu and Windows is using a non-Gregorian calendar, open Windows Settings and go to Time & language > Language & region > Regional format. Set Calendar to Gregorian Calendar, then try launching again.
- If the crash continues, or it does not match this specific boot-crash pattern, do not assume the calendar is the cause. Record the error and continue with the checks below.
The calendar change was an official temporary workaround for that identified issue; it is not a general fix for crashes during loading or gameplay.
Check where the game is installed
An SSD is a stated requirement on Steam. Moon Studios later added HDD detection and a warning that hard-drive installation is unsupported and may cause unexpected issues, as documented in its Together Hotfix 5 notes. If the game is on an HDD and your PC supports an SSD, move or reinstall it to a suitable SSD. This addresses a compatibility mismatch; it cannot guarantee that every crash will stop.

Match the crash to its trigger
Note whether the game closes before the menu, during startup, while loading, after a particular action, or at seemingly random times. The trigger can help distinguish a known issue from a machine-specific problem. Moon Studios’ Hotfix 5, for instance, names the Plague Column rune and rare exception spam as separate crash fixes; those notes do not establish a cause for unrelated crashes.
- Crash tied to one action or area: Write down the exact action, location, and timing, and whether the problem began after a particular update.
- Crash during startup or loading: Record any error text and the point at which the game closes. Apply the calendar check only if it matches the documented boot-crash case.
- Crash without a repeatable trigger: Record when it happens and your current game build, then share those details with support.
Do not follow old file-replacement or settings-edit instructions from the 2025 new-player launch-crash thread: that thread is marked patched and explicitly says not to use its old workaround. The patched thread is not a current general fix.

When to contact Moon Studios support
If updating the game and checking storage and graphics compatibility have not helped, use the official support contact shown on the Steam listing: [email protected]. Include enough detail to make the crash reproducible or distinguish it from known issues:
- The exact error message, if one appears
- When the crash happens and the steps that reproduce it
- The game version and Windows version
- Your CPU, GPU, and RAM
- Whether the game is installed on an SSD or HDD
- The action, area, or update associated with the first occurrence
There is no published crash-rate statistic or official success rate for these troubleshooting steps. A studio player-count figure is not a measure of how often the game crashes.
