No Split-Screen in Star Wars: Galactic Racer—Here’s How Multiplayer Works

No. STAR WARS: Galactic Racer does not support split-screen multiplayer, so two people cannot race together on one console and one screen. The game’s official FAQ gives that answer directly. Multiplayer is online instead, with PC-to-console crossplay enabled by default.

What the no-split-screen answer means

The official STAR WARS: Galactic Racer FAQ, edited October 6, 2026, answers the question “Does STAR WARS: Galactic Racer have split-screen multiplayer?” with: “No, STAR WARS: Galactic Racer does not support split-screen multiplayer.” That rules out the classic couch-racing arrangement in which two controllers share the same television view.

There is no indication that split-screen is restricted to a particular platform, edition, vehicle class or race type. Buying the Standard, Deluxe or Collector’s Edition does not add local multiplayer. The limitation is a game-wide multiplayer feature decision, not a missing option in one menu.

“Crossplay” also does not mean local play. Crossplay lets players on compatible PC and console versions join the same online session; it does not put two racers on one display. If your goal is to hand a second controller to somebody sitting beside you, this game is not built for that use case.

How multiplayer works instead

Online parties are the supported way to play together

The FAQ documents online multiplayer separately from its split-screen answer. At the time of that October 6, 2026 edit, an online party can contain up to three players. The developer says it plans to raise that party limit to six in an update targeted for the first few weeks after launch. Six is therefore a announced target, not a feature you should assume is already available; check the current FAQ or in-game information after updating.

PC-to-console crossplay can be enabled and is on by default. The FAQ also says there is an option to turn crossplay off. Leaving it enabled gives a party the broadest chance of matching across the supported PC and console platforms; disabling it limits matchmaking to the applicable platform pool.

Race lobbies can be larger than parties

A party is the group you bring into matchmaking, while the race itself can contain additional players or AI. The published limits are:

Activity Maximum racers What happens when the lobby is not full

Multiplayer Tour Up to 12 Open slots may be filled by AI.
Quick Podrace Up to 8 Open slots may be filled by AI.
Podracer Tour Up to 8 Open slots may be filled by AI.

These are the capacities stated in the official FAQ, not a promise that every match will contain that many human competitors. A three-person party could enter a race with other online players, while unused positions can be occupied by computer-controlled racers.

A two-person party may need a third human player

There is a specific matchmaking condition for a newly created Tour or Quick Race: when a party has two members, a third unique player outside that party must be present before the race starts. In practical terms, two friends in the same online party cannot necessarily launch one of those newly created races by themselves. The third participant must be a separate player, not the second account in the party.

This rule is unrelated to split-screen. It describes how an online lobby starts, whereas split-screen describes whether multiple local players can share one screen. Even if the party limit later rises to six, the game would still require separate online setups for each participant unless a future update explicitly adds local multiplayer.

Can two people play on one console?

No. The documented absence of split-screen means there is no supported two-player, same-console race displayed side by side or through a shared camera view. Connecting a second controller cannot turn an online-only multiplayer mode into couch co-op.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To race another person, plan on separate online setups: each player needs access to a supported platform and the game, and the group must use the game’s online party or matchmaking flow. Those setups can be mixed between PC and console while crossplay is enabled. The official material does not describe a local LAN mode or a hot-seat system, so neither should be treated as an alternative to split-screen.

If one player only wants to watch or take turns, the solo story campaign provides a way to play without a second person. Taking turns on the same console is a household arrangement, not a multiplayer feature: progress and control pass from one person to the next rather than placing both racers in one event.

What you can play solo and online

Official game descriptions present a solo story campaign alongside competitive multiplayer. That gives a single player a complete campaign route even though local multiplayer is absent. Competitive sessions are the place for racing against other humans online, with AI available to fill unoccupied race slots where the FAQ allows it.

The FAQ identifies four vehicle classes:

  • Landspeeders
  • Speeder bikes
  • Skim speeders
  • Podracers

The two Podrace formats have a lower published field size than the standard race and Tour formats: up to eight racers instead of up to 12. That distinction matters when you are organizing an online group, but it does not create a local multiplayer option for any class.

Platforms and launch timing

STAR WARS: Galactic Racer launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, according to the StarWars.com launch announcement. The official PlayStation product page provides the PS5 platform context, while the official game overview describes the campaign and competitive multiplayer.

  • REQUIRES BASE GAME: Not a standalone product; designed for use with Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game original edition.

Crossplay is relevant only when players use those separate online versions. It does not make a PS5 or Xbox copy support two simultaneous players on one television, and it does not make a PC installation a second local seat.

Which editions are available?

The FAQ lists physical Standard and Deluxe editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It also lists a Collector’s Edition for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. An official announcement dated April 30, 2026 describes the Collector’s Edition as including a physical art book, steel case, banner, pilot patches and a metal landspeeder model; see the official announcement for the stated contents.

Edition names and physical stock can vary by country and can change after launch. More importantly for a shared-play purchase, none of these editions is documented as including split-screen. Choose an edition for its included content or platform, not in the expectation that a higher tier unlocks couch racing.

Choosing the right setup for your group

Your situation What the documented features allow What you need to plan for
Two people, one console and one TV No supported split-screen race. Use solo play or obtain separate online setups.
Two people on different devices Online party play is supported; PC-to-console crossplay is on by default. A newly created Tour or Quick Race with a two-person party needs a third unique player before starting.
Three online friends Within the current stated party limit. Race capacity depends on the selected activity; AI may fill empty slots.
Four to six friends Not all of this group fits in the currently stated three-player party limit. The six-player party size is planned for a future update, not confirmed as delivered.
A large online lobby Quick Race and Multiplayer Tour support up to 12 racers; Podrace formats support up to eight. The race maximum is not the same as the party maximum, and unfilled positions may be AI.

Checklist before you buy or organize a race

  1. Decide whether one-screen play is essential. If everyone must use one console and one TV, do not buy this game expecting split-screen; the official FAQ says it is unsupported.
  2. Count separate online setups. For multiplayer, plan one supported platform-and-game setup per participating player rather than a second controller on the same console.
  3. Confirm platform compatibility. The launch platforms are PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Players using different platform types should leave crossplay enabled unless they have a reason to restrict the pool.
  4. Check the party limit at the time you play. The FAQ states a current limit of three and describes a planned move to six. Treat the six-player figure as conditional until an update confirms it.
  5. Pick the race format around the field size. Quick Race and Multiplayer Tour allow up to 12 racers; Quick Podrace and Podracer Tour allow up to eight.
  6. Allow for AI opponents. A race may not be filled with human players. The FAQ says vacant slots can be occupied by AI.
  7. Plan for the two-person lobby rule. If you create a new Tour or Quick Race with a two-player party, arrange for a third unique player outside that party before starting.
  8. Verify edition and stock locally. Physical Standard, Deluxe and Collector’s Edition availability differs by platform and region. Check the current listing before ordering, and remember that edition choice does not change the split-screen answer.

What could change after launch?

The clearest documented future change is the proposed increase in online party size from three to six during the first few weeks after launch. That statement is a plan, so its timing and final implementation should be verified against a current official update. A party-size expansion would make larger online groups easier to organize, but it would not by itself add local multiplayer.

Feature information can also change through patches, while the FAQ and store pages may be edited. For the latest status, use the game’s official FAQ and platform listing rather than assuming that a forum post’s planned feature has shipped. As of the published FAQ answer, however, split-screen remains explicitly unsupported.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
