Starting in November 2026, Xbox will limit the cloud gaming time included each month with Game Pass: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium and 5 for Essential. This is not a newly announced increase to the recurring subscription fee. But subscribers who stream beyond their allowance may face a higher practical cost, because Xbox plans to sell extra cloud playtime and had not announced its price or full terms as of October 8, 2026.
What changes for Game Pass subscribers in November?
The monthly cloud gaming allowances announced by Xbox on September 3, 2026, are:
| Game Pass plan | Included cloud gaming time per month |
|---|---|
| Ultimate | 15 hours |
| Premium | 10 hours |
| Essential | 5 hours |
After using the included hours, subscribers will be able to buy more cloud playtime through the Xbox Store. Xbox said it would announce the add-on price, purchasing details, eligible games, market availability and usage-checking information in November. Until those details are public, subscribers cannot calculate what streaming beyond the allowance would add to their monthly bill. Xbox’s September announcement does not establish that the same offer or terms will apply in every market.
Is Xbox Game Pass getting another price increase?
Xbox has not announced a new monthly subscription price increase alongside this change. The announced policy limits an included benefit; the possible extra charge is for cloud playtime beyond the allowance. Calling that a price hike is an interpretation of the value change, not Microsoft’s description of a higher recurring plan fee.

For a subscriber who rarely or never streams through the cloud, the cap may not change how they use their plan. For someone who regularly exceeds the allowance, the service could cost more in practice if they buy top-ups. Xbox itself acknowledged that “for some players the practical result is a higher cost.” The amount cannot be assessed until the company releases the top-up price and terms.
Why the change will be judged against recent price increases
Subscribers are likely to assess a reduction in included cloud use in the context of Game Pass pricing history. Microsoft’s published worldwide price-change schedule lists the US Ultimate price for new members as $16.99 before and $19.99 after the listed change. That is historical schedule information, not a current checkout quote; local prices and current offers should be checked with Xbox.

There is also evidence that the earlier increase had a subscriber cost, though not a precise, independently audited count. Windows Central reported on June 9, 2026, that Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball said the 2025 increase led Game Pass to lose “millions of subscribers.” Ball’s reported wording is qualitative and should not be read as an exact figure.
Xbox says the cloud limit is expected to affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers. That is the company’s estimate, not an independently measured usage statistic. Xbox described the move as “a meaningful change, particularly for players who regularly spend more time gaming through the cloud,” and said the cost of providing cloud gaming grows as people use it more and for longer. The 4% estimate does not answer how much affected subscribers will pay or whether they will keep streaming once the top-up price is known.

How to decide whether the cap matters for your plan
Compare your actual cloud use with your plan’s allowance, then weigh any expected extra hours against the price once Xbox publishes it. Also check the plan’s other features and the games and devices you use: cloud access is not interchangeable with every game on every device, and availability can vary by region, platform and time.
- At or below the allowance: The announced cap alone may not change your cloud use. That is a practical inference from your usage and the monthly limit.
- Often above the allowance: Wait for the add-on price and eligible-game details before estimating your total cost or deciding whether the plan remains worthwhile.
- Choosing a plan mainly for cloud play: Compare the included hours alongside local plan prices and features. Xbox lists PC Game Pass separately, and cloud gaming is not included with that plan on its current comparison page.
- Sharing a household account: Add up cloud hours used during the month against the plan allowance; do not assume hours are unlimited simply because more than one person uses the subscription.
Xbox’s plan comparison page notes that plan features, catalogs and availability can vary by region, platform and time. It also says cloud gaming requires a supported device, sold separately; that does not mean this announcement establishes a specific device purchase requirement for existing subscribers.

Cloud playtime will also be available to people without Game Pass
Xbox separately says that beginning in November, people without Game Pass will be able to purchase cloud playtime and stream eligible games they own on supported devices. This is a distinct option from the monthly allowances bundled with Game Pass, and the announcement does not yet specify its price, eligible titles or market coverage. Xbox also says cloud streaming can let Xbox One owners play eligible games built for Xbox Series X|S without immediately upgrading hardware. The announcement leaves the supported-device and availability details for its November update.
Check your local price and cancellation terms
Before changing plans, check the offer and billing terms shown in your own Microsoft account or Xbox console. Xbox says promotions may be limited to new subscribers or selected regions, and a subscription continues at the then-current regular price after a promotion unless canceled. Its comparison page says recurring subscriptions can be canceled in a Microsoft account or on an Xbox console before the next billing date. Taxes, plan features, prices and supported games can vary by market. Xbox’s comparison page and the Game Pass Ultimate product page provide the relevant account and offer caveats.
