Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThe exact message may read: “The program can’t start because nps.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” Other versions say “The code execution cannot proceed because nps.dll was not found” or “Failed to load nps.dll.”
The important detail is that nps.dll is not automatically a Windows file. In the Nero-related case, nps.dll is Nero ProductSetup, a component published by Nero AG. The safest repair is normally to identify the Nero program that requested it and repair or reinstall that program from Nero’s official installer.

Do not begin by downloading a loose copy of nps.dll. The same filename has also been associated with Nokia Suite and some Nexon games, so a file with the right name can still be the wrong product, architecture, or version.

- The error appears when opening Nero: repair or reinstall the affected Nero product using Nero’s current official installer.
- The error names Nokia Suite, a game, or another application: repair that application instead. Nero instructions may not apply.
- Your antivirus recently quarantined a Nero file: inspect quarantine and restore it only after verifying the installation and detection.
- The message names
MSVCP140.dll,VCRUNTIME140.dll, orapi-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll: this is a Microsoft runtime problem, not normally an nps.dll problem. - The file is outside the application or Nero directories: verify its publisher and digital signature before trusting it.
- The application is 32-bit or 64-bit: install the matching parent application. Do not substitute a similarly named DLL from another program.
- The program stopped working after an upgrade or incomplete uninstall: remove the damaged Nero installation and install it cleanly.
- The error says the file is not designed to run on Windows or shows
0xc000012f: treat the file or one of its dependencies as corrupt or incompatible. Reinstall the parent application first. - The error appeared after a Windows problem affecting several programs: use DISM and SFC as Windows repair steps, but do not expect them to restore a third-party Nero file.
First identify which nps.dll is involved
A filename alone is not enough. Before repairing Windows, find the program named in the error and check the file’s location.
Read the complete error
Write down:
- The full error wording.
- The executable named in the message, if shown.
- The program you were opening.
- Whether the problem began after installing, upgrading, uninstalling, or cleaning the computer.
- Any antivirus detection or quarantine message.
If the error appears while starting Nero, continue with the Nero steps below. If it appears while starting a game or Nokia Suite, use that program’s repair, update, or launcher verification feature instead.
Check the expected location
A commonly reported Nero location is:
C:Program FilesCommon Filesneronero webnps.dll
This is a typical location, not a guaranteed path. Nero versions, installation choices, Windows architecture, and product editions can place files differently.
To inspect a file:
- Press
Windows + E. - Browse to the folder containing
nps.dll. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Check the Description, Product name, and Company fields.
- Open Digital Signatures, if that tab is present.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
For the Nero-associated file, the product information should be consistent with Nero ProductSetup and Nero AG. A file with Nokia, Nexon, an unknown publisher, or no signature is not interchangeable with the Nero file.
Do not assume that a public listing showing a particular size, version, or 32-bit status applies to every nps.dll. Those details may describe a different file using the same basename.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the affected Nero product
For a Nero-related nps.dll error, this is the most likely successful fix.
Try Windows’ repair option first
Some Nero installers expose a repair action through Windows:
- Press
Windows + Ito open Settings. - Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Nero.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the affected Nero product.
- Choose Modify, Change, or Repair, if available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the same Nero program that originally produced the error.
If the program opens normally, the missing component was restored by the application installer. Do not separately copy a DLL into System32.
Reinstall from Nero’s official installer
If repair is unavailable or fails:
- Save any Nero projects, personal media, license information, and activation details.
- Close Nero and any related background processes.
- Open Settings with
Windows + I. - Select Apps and then Installed apps.
- Search for the exact Nero product named in the error.
- Select its menu and choose Uninstall.
- Complete the removal and restart Windows.
- Obtain the installer from Nero’s official support or download page.
- Choose the installer for your product edition. Nero publishes online and offline installers for several products.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation without interrupting it.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch the original Nero shortcut.
If this works, the result should be more than a disappearing error. Nero should start from its normal shortcut, open the expected project or media functions, and stop reporting nps.dll.

If the installer reports that Nero is already installed, or the same damaged installation returns after removal, continue to the clean-removal section below.
Check whether the shortcut points to an old installation
A successful reinstall can appear ineffective when an old shortcut still launches a removed executable.
Recommended Free Tools
- Right-click the Nero shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, check Target.
- Confirm that the target points to the current Nero installation.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Launch the executable from the current installation folder.
- If the current executable works but the old shortcut does not, delete the old shortcut and create a new one.
Also check whether the error occurs only under one Windows user account. A damaged per-user configuration can make a successful installation appear broken.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything
Security software can quarantine or block an application component after an update or a change in detection rules. That does not prove the detection is false, so inspect it carefully.
- Open your antivirus application.
- Find Protection history, Quarantine, Detection history, or a similarly named area.
- Search for
nps.dll, Nero, or the exact Nero executable. - Record the detection name and file path.
- Update the antivirus definitions.
- Confirm that the file came from an authentic Nero installation.
- If the detection is verified as a false positive, use the antivirus application’s Restore action.
- Restart Windows.
- Start Nero and test it.
Restore the file only when its path, product information, and source make sense. Do not restore an unsigned file from a temporary folder merely because its name is nps.dll.
If the file is immediately quarantined again:
- Do not repeatedly disable antivirus protection.
- Leave the suspicious file quarantined.
- Submit the detection to the antivirus vendor if that facility is available.
- Download a fresh Nero installer from Nero’s official source.
- Uninstall and reinstall Nero with protection enabled unless Nero’s support instructions tell you otherwise.
A clean reinstall is safer than repeatedly restoring a file that security software continues to flag.

Fix 3: Remove broken Nero remnants and install cleanly
Use this step when Nero will not uninstall normally, the installer says a newer version is already present, or several Nero versions have been installed over one another.
First back up license information and personal Nero data. Nero’s advanced FirstAidKit procedure removes Nero-related files and registry entries, so it should not be treated as a casual cleanup tool.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps and then Installed apps.
- Remove every Nero product you no longer need.
- Restart Windows.
- Download Nero’s current FirstAidKit instructions and utility from Nero support.
- Follow Nero’s stated removal procedure exactly.
- Restart Windows when instructed.
- Install the correct Nero product from Nero’s official installer.
- Activate it with your saved license information.
- Test the original task that produced the nps.dll error.
Do not use a registry cleaner as a substitute for Nero’s removal procedure. Registry cleaners can remove unrelated entries without restoring the application files and dependencies that Nero actually needs.

Fix 4: Confirm that the missing file is really nps.dll
Windows loader messages can be easy to misread. A program may mention nps.dll while a second dependency is the actual failure.
Read the filename carefully. These are different components:
nps.dll
MSVCP140.dll
VCRUNTIME140.dll
api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll
If the error names MSVCP140.dll or VCRUNTIME140.dll, install the supported Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft’s official documentation. Install the architecture required by the affected application. A 32-bit application can need the 32-bit redistributable even on 64-bit Windows.
Do not claim that the Visual C++ package contains Nero’s nps.dll. It does not replace an application-specific component.
If you are unsure which executable is failing:
- Press
Windows + R. - Enter
eventvwr.msc. - Press Enter.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Look for an error at the time of the failed launch.
- Read the Faulting application name and Faulting module name.
- Compare them with the visible error message.
Event Viewer may identify a dependency, but it does not by itself prove that a file is safe. Continue to verify the path and signature.

The reported Nero-associated record is 32-bit, but a public record is not a universal specification for every file named nps.dll. The correct architecture belongs to the parent application and its installer.
Check the application:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps and Installed apps.
- Find the Nero product.
- Check its installed location and product documentation.
- If the installer offers architecture choices, use the one specified for that Nero product.
Do not copy a 32-bit file into a 64-bit application directory, or a file from Nokia Suite or a Nexon game into a Nero folder. The filename matching is not enough.
A Nero installation normally owns its application files. Do not place nps.dll in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
unless the application’s official documentation explicitly requires it. nps.dll is not established as a Windows system component.

Fix 6: Run Windows component repair tools
DISM and SFC repair Windows components. They do not normally restore third-party application files such as Nero ProductSetup. Use them when Windows itself is showing broader corruption, several built-in features are failing, or the Nero installer cannot complete because the operating system is damaged.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the Nero installer or repair operation.
Microsoft’s instructions for these commands are available through its official System File Checker documentation.
Running the commands repeatedly without recording their results rarely improves an application-specific problem. If DISM and SFC report that Windows is healthy but Nero still cannot start, return to repairing Nero rather than treating nps.dll as a Windows file.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
When manually hunting through Windows components and repeating DISM or SFC leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system issues; its free scan shows what it finds, while repair requires the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling Nero remains the definitive fix when the missing file belongs to Nero.
Fix 7: Update or reinstall a related driver only when evidence points there
A graphics, storage, or optical-drive driver does not normally provide nps.dll. Driver work belongs later in the process, not at the beginning. Consider it only if Nero fails while accessing a particular device, Device Manager reports a problem, or several programs using that device fail.
To inspect drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, DVD/CD-ROM drives, Storage controllers, or Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the General tab and check Device status.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Use Update Driver only when Windows or the hardware vendor provides a suitable update.
- Restart Windows and retest Nero.
Do not uninstall a working driver merely because nps.dll is missing. A driver update cannot normally recreate an application DLL.
Finding the correct driver manually can mean comparing hardware IDs, Windows editions, and vendor packages, while guessing at stale drivers can create a second problem. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show driver issues, with installation handled by the full version; it is optional, and it is not a replacement for reinstalling Nero when Nero owns the missing file.
Do not run regsvr32 nps.dll as a generic fix
regsvr32 is not a general DLL installation command. It is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer.
There is no verified evidence that Nero ProductSetup’s nps.dll should be manually registered. Avoid this command:
regsvr32 nps.dll
It can produce another error, register the wrong file, or distract from a damaged parent installation. Only use regsvr32 if Nero specifically instructs you to register that exact file for that exact product build.

Why random DLL downloads are a poor repair
Downloading nps.dll from a random DLL site creates several risks:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- The file may contain malware or an unwanted modification.
- It may belong to Nokia Suite or a Nexon game rather than Nero.
- It may have the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
- Its version may not match the rest of the Nero installation.
- It may require other missing dependencies.
- Copying it into a system directory can create a second application conflict.
- The original cause, such as quarantine or a failed upgrade, remains unfixed.
The safe sources are Nero’s official installer and a trusted backup from the same Nero installation. If the error belongs to another application, use that vendor’s official installer or launcher repair feature.
For game launchers, use the launcher’s Verify files, Repair, or equivalent command. Do not replace a game’s nps.dll with a Nero file.
Windows Features and System Restore
Windows Features are not a normal source for Nero ProductSetup. You can still check them if the error is accompanied by a separate Windows feature failure:
- Press
Windows + R. - Enter:
optionalfeatures
- Press Enter.
- Review the enabled Windows features.
- Change only the feature required by a documented application dependency.
- Select OK and restart if Windows requests it.
Do not enable random legacy features to supply nps.dll.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
System Restore is reasonable only when the file disappeared immediately after a known system change and application repair is unavailable:
- Press
Windows + R. - Enter
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Choose a restore point from before the change.
- Review the affected programs.
- Back up important files first.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can remove recently installed applications and drivers. It does not guarantee that a third-party application will be repaired, so reinstall Nero afterward if the error remains.

| What you see | Most likely action |
|---|---|
| Nero reports that nps.dll is missing | Repair or reinstall the exact Nero product |
| nps.dll is in Nero’s common-files directory and signed consistently | Reinstall from Nero’s official installer if it is missing or damaged |
| Antivirus quarantined the file | Verify the path and source, update antivirus, then restore only when confirmed safe |
| The error names Nokia Suite or a game | Repair that parent application, not Nero |
The message names MSVCP140.dll or VCRUNTIME140.dll |
Install the correct Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable |
“Not designed to run on Windows” or 0xc000012f |
Reinstall the parent app and inspect the exact file path and dependencies |
| DISM and SFC complete successfully but Nero still fails | Stop treating it as a Windows DLL problem and repair Nero |
| Reinstall succeeds but the same error remains | Check the shortcut, user profile, executable path, antivirus, and exact missing filename |
If the error still will not clear
Collect this information before contacting Nero support or a technician:
- The complete error text.
- The application and executable named in the error.
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 and its system architecture.
- The full path where nps.dll was expected or found.
- The file’s Details and Digital Signatures information.
- Antivirus detection and quarantine history.
- Whether Nero was upgraded, removed, or installed cleanly.
- DISM and SFC results.
- The relevant Event Viewer entry.
- Whether the error appears for every Windows user or only one.
This evidence distinguishes a missing Nero component from a wrong application identity, a blocked file, a dependency failure, or a corrupt executable.
Prevention
Keep Nero updated through its own installer and avoid deleting shared application folders during disk cleanup. Before uninstalling or upgrading Nero, save licenses and personal project data. If antivirus software flags a newly installed component, investigate the exact path and detection instead of disabling protection broadly.
Most importantly, treat nps.dll as an application file, not as a universal Windows repair file. Identify the parent program, use its authenticated installer, and leave System32, SysWOW64, and regsvr32 out of the repair unless official instructions for the exact product require them.
