nsqlv32.dll is a Lotus NotesSQL 2.0 32-bit ODBC driver file, not a Windows system component. The safest repair is to restore the original Lotus NotesSQL installation or repair the older business application that installed it.
Which fix applies to you
Choose the situation that best matches what you see:
- The error appeared after uninstalling, migrating, or cleaning up an old application: reinstall or repair that parent application first.
- The application uses a Lotus Notes or ODBC database connection: reinstall the correct 32-bit NotesSQL package and recreate or inspect the 32-bit DSN.
- The error appeared after antivirus quarantine: inspect Windows Security Protection history before restoring anything.
- The application is 64-bit: it cannot directly load this 32-bit driver. Use a 32-bit version of the application or migrate to a supported 64-bit driver.
- The old installer will not run on Windows 10 or Windows 11: try compatibility settings, then consider an isolated virtual machine or replacement integration.
- Several unrelated programs also fail: check Windows component integrity with DISM and SFC.
- You found a standalone DLL download: do not copy it into
System32orSysWOW64. That is usually the wrong repair.
What nsqlv32.dll belongs to
nsqlv32.dll is associated with Lotus NotesSQL 2.0, a 32-bit Lotus Notes ODBC driver historically published by Lotus Development Corp. IBM’s historical NotesSQL archive identifies packages including:

The file is therefore part of an old database connectivity product. It is not normally supplied by Windows, DirectX, the .NET Framework, Microsoft Visual C++, or a modern hardware driver.
Do not assume that the DLL alone is the complete product. NotesSQL also requires the correct driver registration, supporting files, application compatibility, and a properly configured ODBC data source.
Fix 1: Repair the application that requests the file
This is the most likely solution when the error names an application folder.
Identify the requesting application
- Read the complete error path if Windows displays one.
- Right-click the application shortcut and select Properties.
- Check the Target field.
- Note the application folder and executable name.
- Open Event Viewer by pressing Windows key + X, then selecting Event Viewer.
- Expand Windows Logs and select Application.
- Look for an error recorded at the time the program failed.
If the missing path points into the application’s own directory, reinstall that application rather than adding a DLL to a Windows folder.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair or reinstall it
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for the affected business application, Lotus Notes component, or database utility.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Modify, Repair, or Uninstall, depending on what is available.
- If a repair option exists, run it and restart Windows.
- If repair is unavailable, uninstall only after confirming that you have the application installer, license information, database connection details, and any required configuration backups.
- Reinstall using the original installation media or the original vendor package.
- Start the application and repeat the database connection test.
A successful repair should remove the missing-file message and allow the application to reach its normal login, database, or connection screen. If another DLL is then named, reinstall the complete product again rather than downloading the newly mentioned file separately.
Fix 2: Restore the original NotesSQL package
If the parent application is intact but NotesSQL itself is missing, use the historical IBM NotesSQL package rather than a standalone DLL mirror.
IBM’s archive identifies nsql32.exe as the NotesSQL 2.0 Windows 32-bit ODBC driver installer. The archive installer is very old and is not a current supported runtime. Before using it, verify that it came from IBM’s historical software archive, scan it with your security software, and test it in an isolated environment where possible.
Install the package
- Close the application that reports the error.
- Back up the application’s configuration and ODBC settings if they are still available.
- Obtain the original NotesSQL installer from IBM’s historical Lotus NotesSQL archive.
- Right-click the installer and select Properties.
- If a security message appears on the General tab, select Unblock, if available, then select Apply.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the installer’s prompts.
- Restart Windows after installation.
- Test the original application again.
Do not treat a successful installation as proof that the software is suitable for production. The archive proves the product and installer existed, but it does not guarantee that this historical package works correctly on every current Windows release.
If the installer refuses to run, do not extract nsqlv32.dll manually and place it into a system directory. Continue to the compatibility and isolation steps below.
Fix 3: Check the 32-bit ODBC configuration
NotesSQL was a 32-bit-only driver. On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit application must use the 32-bit ODBC administrator. The directory names are confusing:
- 64-bit ODBC administrator:
%windir%System32odbcad32.exe - 32-bit ODBC administrator:
%windir%SysWOW64odbcad32.exe
Open the correct ODBC administrator
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
%windir%SysWOW64odbcad32.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Look for a Lotus NotesSQL driver entry.
- Check the User DSN and System DSN tabs for the data source used by the application.
Microsoft states that the Drivers tab displays information such as the driver name, version, company, file name, and creation date.
Interpret the result
- No Lotus NotesSQL driver appears: the installation is incomplete, incompatible, or missing. Repair the application or reinstall the NotesSQL package.
- The driver appears, but no DSN exists: create the required DSN using the application’s documented connection details.
- The DSN exists in the 64-bit administrator but not the 32-bit administrator: recreate it in the 32-bit administrator.
- The driver and DSN appear, but the program still fails: confirm that the application itself is 32-bit and inspect its configuration and dependent files.
- A 64-bit application requires this driver: it cannot load the 32-bit NotesSQL driver directly. Use a supported 64-bit integration method or a 32-bit version of the application.
Do not create a DSN in the wrong ODBC administrator and expect a 32-bit program to find it.

Fix 4: Check whether security software quarantined the file
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine an old driver because legacy software has characteristics that modern security products treat cautiously. A quarantine event does not automatically prove that the file is safe.
Review Protection history
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand the detection related to the application or
nsqlv32.dll. - Review the file path, detection name, and action taken.
- Compare the path with the original application or NotesSQL installation directory.
Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file can expose the device if the file is malicious. Restore it only when you have confirmed that it came from the legitimate installer and that the detection is demonstrably false. If uncertain, do not restore it. Reinstall the complete product from a verified source and ask your security administrator to assess the detection.
After a legitimate restoration, launch the application and check whether the driver and DSN are still present. A restored DLL by itself may not restore the ODBC registration or missing dependencies.
Fix 5: Use compatibility settings for the old installer
A historical installer may fail because of permissions, obsolete setup behavior, or changes in modern Windows.
- Right-click the original installer.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Try an older Windows version offered by the compatibility troubleshooter.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Run the installer again.
Compatibility mode is not a guarantee that the driver will work. It may allow setup to complete while the driver still fails because of architecture, unsupported dependencies, or obsolete database components.
If the application is business-critical, use a managed virtual machine or older supported host environment rather than weakening security controls on a primary workstation. Keep the isolated system off unnecessary networks, restrict access to the required database, and plan a migration to a supported driver or integration method.
Fix 6: Check for broader Windows corruption
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They do not reinstall a third-party Lotus NotesSQL DLL, create an ODBC driver registration, or recreate a DSN.
Use them when multiple unrelated applications are failing or Windows is showing broader corruption.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
Microsoft documents this DISM-then-SFC sequence for repairing Windows system files.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM will not recreate nsqlv32.dll if the Lotus NotesSQL installation is missing. Outbyte PC Repair can reduce the manual work of hunting through Windows repair steps, and its free scan shows what it identifies; repair is performed by the full version, so it is optional and not a substitute for reinstalling NotesSQL.
Fix 7: Do not use Device Manager for this DLL
Device Manager is appropriate for hardware packages such as graphics, audio, chipset, network, and printer drivers. nsqlv32.dll belongs to a software ODBC driver, so Device Manager will not reinstall it.
Do not expect these steps to fix the error:
- Open Device Manager.
- Select Action.
- Choose Scan for hardware changes.
- Update a graphics, audio, or chipset driver.
Those actions may be useful when a separate hardware problem exists, but they do not install Lotus NotesSQL or create its ODBC registration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor general driver maintenance, manually identifying stale packages can involve checking many vendors, versions, and architectures. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver issues and show what it identifies, while installation is performed by the full version; it is optional, and it should not be treated as the definitive repair for a missing NotesSQL component.

Do not download nsqlv32.dll from a random website
A standalone DLL may contain malware, belong to the wrong product, have the wrong architecture, or be incompatible with the application. Even a clean file may not fix the problem because the ODBC driver registration, supporting files, and DSN are still missing.

Never copy an unverified DLL into:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those directories are not interchangeable drop locations. Placing a 32-bit or mismatched file there can create loader conflicts and make later repairs harder.
Do not register it with regsvr32
regsvr32 is used for DLLs that provide the DllRegisterServer entry point. An ODBC driver installation is not repaired simply by registering its main DLL.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

A command such as this is therefore not a routine fix:
regsvr32 nsqlv32.dll
Even if registration succeeds, it would not necessarily install the ODBC driver, create the required registry entries, supply dependencies, or create a DSN.
Do not install DirectX, Visual C++, or .NET at random
There are no verified reports connecting nsqlv32.dll specifically to a modern game, DirectX, .NET, or Microsoft Visual C++ runtime. Those packages should be installed only when the complete error identifies a dependency that actually requires them.
How to tell whether the repair worked
The repair is successful when:
- The original application launches without naming
nsqlv32.dll. - The 32-bit ODBC administrator lists the Lotus NotesSQL driver.
- The required DSN appears in the 32-bit administrator.
- The application can open or test its database connection.
- No new dependency error appears.
If the error remains, record the complete path, executable name, application architecture, ODBC administrator used, and any new DLL named by Windows. A path inside the application folder points toward reinstalling that application. A path inside a Windows folder should be treated cautiously and does not prove that the file belongs there.

FAQ
Is nsqlv32.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with the Lotus NotesSQL 2.0 32-bit ODBC driver and should not normally be present in System32 or SysWOW64.
Is nsqlv32.dll a hardware driver?
No. It is a software database connectivity driver. Device Manager is not the correct repair tool.
Can a 64-bit application use NotesSQL?
Not directly. NotesSQL was 32-bit only. Use a 32-bit version of the dependent application or migrate to a supported 64-bit driver or integration method.
Which ODBC administrator should I use?
For a 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows, run:
%windir%SysWOW64odbcad32.exe
Should I run regsvr32?
No, not as a routine fix. Registering a DLL does not install an ODBC driver or create its DSN.
Recommended Free Tools
Will SFC restore nsqlv32.dll?
No. SFC repairs protected Windows files. It does not restore a missing third-party Lotus NotesSQL component.
What if the installer will not run?
Try compatibility settings and administrative installation. If that fails, use an isolated virtual machine or managed legacy host, or replace the integration with a supported driver.
Is the IBM installer guaranteed to work on Windows 11?
No. It is a historical archive installer. Test it carefully, confirm application compatibility, and avoid deploying it broadly without a migration or isolation plan.
