All figures in the table are from MHWILDSBUILD.COM’s Ver. 1.042 database, verified September 6, 2026. Hitzone values describe the game’s damage multipliers; they are not a guarantee of a particular damage number, which also depends on weapon, attack, and other game conditions.
Where to find Nu Udra
Nu Udra lives in the lower regions of Oilwell Basin. A Siliconera guide published March 5, 2025 points hunters toward areas 14 and 16 and says the optional quest “Sinister Sneer” can force an encounter after “Scorching the Earth Once More,” the second part of chapter five. Quest availability can depend on campaign progress and game state, so treat that sequence as the guide’s dated route rather than a universal current unlock guarantee. Read the location guide.

How to prepare for the hunt
Choose damage and mobility for the phase
Bring a Water-aligned weapon if you have one. Nu Udra’s oilsilt ignites when it enrages, making movement and safe attack windows especially relevant. The Siliconera guide suggests Dual Blades, Long Sword, or Hammer for mobility; these are recommendations, not a universal weapon ranking.
Consider guarding or ranged options
If you prefer a shield, the guide names Sword and Shield, Gunlance, and Lance as suitable options. For distance, it suggests Bow or Heavy Bowgun with water ammo. Pick based on the weapon you can use reliably and whether you want mobility, guarding, or ranged access to Water damage.

- Hunt giant nature-infused bests – Survive their attacks, learn from their behaviors, and use your Karakuri and your weapons in combination to cut these creatures down to size.
- Craft your hunting grounds – You are the only one in Azuma able to wield the Karakuri technology.
- Hunt in a pack, or be a lone wolf – In WILD HEARTS you can face the Kemono alone or unite with up to two friends (or other players) to stalk and hunt your prey.
- Gear up to hunt, hunt to gear up – Create your character, then gather materials from each hunt and build an array of armor and weapons.
Pack burn recovery and use the environment
The guide recommends bringing Nulberries to recover from burn effects. Nu Udra’s hunter hints, reproduced by MHWILDSBUILD.COM, also say watermoss can douse burning parts and weaken the monster. These are source-attributed preparation tips rather than guarantees that every hit or situation will be neutralized.
Combat targets and openings
Prioritize the mouth when you can reach it safely: the Ver. 1.042 hitzone table gives it the highest listed raw values, 80 for slash, blunt, and shot. The head is another worthwhile focus; the same table lists a 100 stun hitzone there, alongside 70 slash, 75 blunt, and 50 shot. MHWILDSBUILD.COM’s hunter hints say Nu Udra’s tentacles can be severed, offering another part-focused objective during the hunt.

Nu Udra materials and rewards
Siliconera’s March 5, 2025 guide lists Nu Udra Hide, Oilmucus, Horn, Spike, Tentacle, Certificate, and Cerebrospinal Fluid among low-rank rewards. High-rank rewards can include upgraded versions and Flamegem. Exact odds vary by reward source and game data version; MHWILDSBUILD.COM provides acquisition-specific rates in its Ver. 1.042 database, verified September 6, 2026, so do not treat any single percentage as a general chance for every carve, break, or quest reward. The game’s hunter-note description, reproduced by the fan database, calls Nu Udra “The cephalopod that reigns supreme over Oilwell Basin’s ecosystem.” It is an apex monster of that environment, and its oil-covered body becomes a particular danger once the oilsilt catches fire during rage.
