The Nubia RedMagic 9 Pro+ is a China-market gaming phone from 2023, not the international RedMagic 9 Pro with a simple memory upgrade. It pairs the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform with 165W wired charging and configurations up to 24GB RAM and 1TB storage, but has a smaller 5,500mAh battery and China-region software and support considerations.
For most buyers outside China, the global RedMagic 9 Pro—or a newer officially sold model—is the safer choice. Consider importing the 9 Pro+ only if you specifically want its charging speed or top configuration and have verified the exact model, firmware, carrier compatibility, seller warranty and return terms.
What is the RedMagic 9 Pro+?
REDMAGIC, Nubia’s gaming-phone brand, announced the 9 Pro series in China on November 23, 2023; sales began there on November 28. The 9 Pro+ is the series’ premium China-market variant. REDMAGIC said the 9 Pro+ was released only in China, while the regular RedMagic 9 Pro was its global-market model. Nubia’s launch announcement and REDMAGIC’s regional availability response establish that distinction.
Its appeal is a gaming-focused combination: Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, active fan cooling, capacitive shoulder triggers, an uninterrupted AMOLED display and very fast wired charging. The Plus name does not mean it is better in every respect: its battery is smaller than the regular 9 Pro’s, and its China-market status can make ownership less straightforward abroad.

RedMagic 9 Pro+ vs. RedMagic 9 Pro
The comparison below separates the China-market 9 Pro+ from the regular 9 Pro. Global 9 Pro memory configurations differ from the China series, so regional specifications should not be treated as interchangeable.

The specifications and configurations are listed on Nubia’s China product page. The claimed charging times come from the manufacturer, not an independent test. The global 9 Pro launched at $649 for 12GB/256GB and $799 for 16GB/512GB; those were launch prices, not verified 2026 prices. REDMAGIC’s global launch announcement gives those historical prices.
Both models use the same processor and core gaming platform, so the 9 Pro+ is not automatically faster in games. Its clearest hardware advantages are charging speed and the highest China-market memory and storage option. The regular 9 Pro has a 1,000mAh larger battery and is the officially sold global model.
Design and gaming hardware
The series has a flat rear panel, with the cameras integrated without a conventional protruding camera island. REDMAGIC’s global specification sheet lists the 9 Pro platform at 163.98 × 76.35 × 8.9mm and 229g; those figures are for the global platform and should not be assumed to establish every China 9 Pro+ model’s exact specification. The body combines a metal middle frame and glass back. RGB lighting, a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers and capacitive shoulder triggers reinforce its gaming focus. The flat back sits steadily on a desk and avoids a raised camera bump, but the phone is large and heavy. Its built-in fan also means it is not acoustically or mechanically equivalent to a conventional sealed phone; dust exposure and repairability are practical considerations for a device with moving cooling hardware.

Display: uninterrupted 120Hz gaming
REDMAGIC specifies a 6.8-inch AMOLED panel with 2480 × 1116 resolution and a refresh rate up to 120Hz. It claims up to 960Hz multi-touch sampling, 2,000Hz instantaneous touch sampling, 1,600 nits peak brightness, 2160Hz PWM dimming and a 93.7% screen-to-body ratio. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. The company’s global product page describes the shared platform.
- No camera cutout: the under-display selfie camera leaves the screen unobstructed, which is useful for games and video.
- 120Hz is not a frame-rate guarantee: the panel can refresh at up to 120Hz, but actual game frame rate depends on the title, its settings and the phone’s operating conditions.
- Touch sampling is not game FPS: the sampling figures describe how often touch input is read, not how many frames a game renders.
- PWM comfort varies: the claimed dimming rate does not guarantee that a flicker-sensitive user will be comfortable.
Gaming performance and cooling
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is paired with LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 4.0 storage, a Red Core 2 Pro gaming chip, a dedicated Game Space mode and 520Hz capacitive shoulder triggers. The extra RAM in the 24GB configuration may help with app retention or enthusiast workloads, but it does not by itself guarantee higher game frame rates. Game support and software profiles determine whether a title can use high-refresh modes or remapped triggers.
REDMAGIC’s ICE 13.0 cooling system includes an active centrifugal fan and a vapor chamber the company lists at 10,182mm². The company says the fan can reach 22,000rpm and claims up to a 25°C reduction in CPU-core temperature under its test conditions. Those are manufacturer claims, not a promise of a particular temperature or sustained frame rate in every game. Ambient heat, workload, software behavior and unobstructed air intake and exhaust all matter. The fan may be audible in a quiet room, and a cooler phone does not necessarily mean longer battery life.

For real-world gaming, the useful questions are whether a particular game supports 90Hz or 120Hz, whether performance holds over a long session, how audible the fan is, and whether the triggers are comfortable and consistent. Charging separation can reduce heat associated with charging during play, but it does not make every high-load session thermally identical.
Battery and 165W charging
The 9 Pro+ has a rated 5,500mAh battery and 165W wired charging; the regular 9 Pro has 6,500mAh and 80W charging. REDMAGIC’s roughly 16-minute and 35-minute full-charge figures are company claims, not guaranteed results for every charge. Actual speed can depend on the adapter and cable, battery level, temperature, firmware and regional accessories.

The 9 Pro+ is the better fit if a short top-up is more important than maximizing battery capacity. The regular 9 Pro’s larger battery should generally offer more endurance, though actual runtime depends on use. The 165W figure is not available from any ordinary USB-C charger: verify that an imported unit includes a genuine compatible adapter and cable, that the plug and electrical compatibility suit your region, and that the seller explains whether full-speed charging works outside China.
Cameras: useful, but not the reason to buy it
The China product page emphasizes a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization and a 50MP ultrawide. Regional documentation differs on whether an auxiliary 2MP rear camera is included. The global 9 Pro specification sheet lists a 16MP under-display front camera for that platform; check the exact 9 Pro+ model before relying on a regional camera specification.

China firmware and software checks
The global RedMagic 9 Pro launched with REDMAGIC OS 9.0 based on Android 14. That launch detail does not establish the current software version or update status of a China-market 9 Pro+. With an imported unit, the exact ROM and seller’s description matter: do not assume that Google services, language options, notifications, payment apps, Android Auto, streaming DRM or over-the-air updates will behave like they do on the global model.
Before paying, ask the seller to identify the firmware and confirm whether it is original China software or a modified ROM. Check Google Play availability, the apps you need, notification reliability, banking and streaming compatibility, language support and update behavior for that exact device. Do not assume that a global ROM can safely be installed: no general conversion should be treated as supported without an official procedure for the precise model.

REDMAGIC’s update support page for the regular 9 Pro includes update information and says the phone must have more than 30% battery to complete an update. It does not establish identical update support for an imported 9 Pro+. See the regular 9 Pro support page.
Buying the 9 Pro+ outside China
Because REDMAGIC identified the 9 Pro+ as China-only, buyers in the United States and other international markets are likely to encounter it through importers, cross-border marketplaces or used sellers—not as the official global model. A listing alone does not prove local warranty, carrier certification or manufacturer support.
Check the exact network model
Before ordering, get the precise model number and compare its LTE and 5G bands with your carrier’s requirements. Also confirm VoLTE and carrier activation, Wi-Fi behavior, dual-SIM operation and any features you depend on, such as Wi-Fi calling. Do not use the global 9 Pro’s band list as proof that the China 9 Pro+ will work on the same networks: the global specification sheet describes the global model, not necessarily the imported one.
Establish who handles a fault or return
REDMAGIC has warned that for third-party purchases the retailer may be responsible for handling problems. Ask who pays return shipping, where repairs happen, what battery and accidental-damage coverage applies, whether replacement parts are available, and how import taxes are handled if the phone must be sent back. REDMAGIC’s statement about third-party purchases is in its availability and support response.
- Confirm the model number, ROM and condition in writing.
- Check your carrier’s bands, VoLTE and activation requirements against that model.
- Get the seller’s warranty and return period, including the return destination and shipping responsibility.
- Verify charger authenticity, plug type, cable rating and regional electrical compatibility.
- For a used phone, inspect battery condition, fan operation and noise, charging, display and device identity before the return window ends.
Is the RedMagic 9 Pro+ worth buying in 2026?
It is now a 2023 phone competing with newer generations. The available launch information establishes a China starting price of ¥5,499 in November 2023, not a current 2026 market price. Do not use that launch figure to judge a present-day listing; compare the seller’s current price, condition, warranty and total import cost with a newer officially supported phone.

New old stock
Consider it only if the discount is substantial enough to account for its age and support uncertainty, and the seller offers a credible warranty and return window. Ask when the device was manufactured or first activated if battery age matters to you.
Used unit
Make the return period count: test the fan, charging, display, triggers and the apps and network features you rely on. A low price does not compensate for a failing fan, degraded battery or incompatible firmware if those cannot be remedied locally.
Collector or enthusiast import
The China-only status can be part of the appeal if you want the 165W configuration, 24GB/1TB model or a particular design and accept the support trade-offs. Treat it as an import whose limitations you have deliberately checked, not as an equivalent to a locally supported global phone.
Which alternative fits better?
- Global RedMagic 9 Pro: choose it if you want the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 generation and gaming-focused design with a 6,500mAh battery and official global-market sales, and can accept 80W rather than 165W charging.
- A newer global RedMagic: compare the exact current model, price, warranty and support in your region. A newer generation is usually the more sensible purchase if its price is close to old-stock 9 Pro+ inventory, but current availability and pricing need to be checked with the seller.
- A mainstream Android flagship: choose one if camera quality, clearly defined software support, carrier features or local repair access matter more than built-in fan cooling and shoulder triggers.
