Vlambeer released Nuclear Throne Update 100 free on Steam on December 5, 2025, marking the game’s tenth anniversary. The update adds Cuz, custom mode, unlockable C-skins, and four-player local co-op, alongside display, performance, language, and platform changes. It’s a substantial update to the existing roguelike, not a new game.
What’s new in Nuclear Throne Update 100?
Vlambeer’s December 5, 2025 announcement describes a broad set of additions and improvements. The biggest changes for a new run are a new character, more control over run setup, character cosmetics to unlock, and a larger local co-op group.

Cuz joins the roster
Cuz is the game’s thirteenth character. His Cry ability tears through enemies and projectiles, and he can carry three weapons. That extra weapon slot gives players a different loadout to work with, while Cry can affect both threats coming at him and enemies in his way.
Custom mode and C-skins add more ways to play
Custom mode lets players modify the game and create runs and challenges. Vlambeer’s September preview referred to “custom difficulty mode”; the release notes call the shipped feature “custom mode,” so those labels should not be taken as evidence of two separate modes.

The update also adds unlockable C-skins for every character, with new achievements tied to those skins. The official announcement lists the feature, but does not detail individual unlock requirements.
Local co-op expands to four players
Local co-op now supports up to four players, and the update changes revive mechanics. The announcement does not provide a detailed breakdown of the revised revive rules, so players looking for exact timings or conditions should consult the game itself rather than assume the old behavior still applies.

Display, performance, and platform changes
Update 100 also includes technical and setup changes that may matter when returning to the game on a different display or device. Vlambeer’s release notes list the following:
- Support for 60+ fps, with 30 fps still supported.
- Widescreen support.
- A reorganized settings menu and improved gamepad handling.
- Steam Deck Verified status.
- A 64-bit Mac build that includes Apple Silicon.
- An overhaul of the Thronebutt leaderboard.
The developer’s announcement establishes feature availability, not measured frame rates on particular hardware or a compatibility guarantee for every operating-system version and device configuration.

Which languages are included?
The release announcement lists 15 languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Ukrainian, Turkish, and Dutch.
Does Update 100 work with Nuclear Throne Together?
Compatibility should be checked against the mod’s current release notes. In a December 2025 Nuclear Throne Together community thread, developer YellowAfterlife said the development branch had fixes and optimizations but did not then include Update 100 content. He said a compatible version would come later while he handled bugs. That was a dated status update, not confirmation of the mod’s present compatibility.

Likewise, Steam Deck Verified and the 64-bit Mac build are release claims from Vlambeer; they do not establish compatibility with every system configuration or third-party mod.

Update 100 was announced as a free Steam update. Nuclear Throne’s Steam listing presents the game digitally and lists a digital original soundtrack DLC; the cited listing does not verify a physical edition of the update.

Vlambeer’s September 2025 announcement mentioned a Y.V. plushie pledge campaign that needed 200 pledges. That historical threshold does not establish whether the campaign succeeded or whether the plushie is currently available.
