Exact errors you may see
Windows may display messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because nusound2_win.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because nusound2_win.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading nusound2_win.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “There was a problem starting nusound2_win.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “nusound2_win.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The procedure entry point … could not be located in the dynamic link library nusound2_win.dll.”
nusound2_win.dll is not a Windows component. It is a private game file associated directly with NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 3 Full Burst HD and NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM Revolution.
The 60-second answer
If the affected game is installed through Steam, restore the original file this way:
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the Naruto Storm game.
- Choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish, then launch the game again.
This is the safest and most likely fix because Steam restores missing or altered game files from the game’s own installation package. For a DVD or standalone installation, run the original installer again or use its repair option.
Do not download nusound2_win.dll from a random DLL website, copy it into C:WindowsSystem32, or register it with regsvr32.

What nusound2_win.dll belongs to
Public game file manifests place nusound2_win.dll in the installation folders of:
- NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 3 Full Burst HD
- NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM Revolution
It is located beside the game executable and other private game files. That placement matters. Windows normally searches the application’s folder when loading a DLL, so the correct copy should remain with the Naruto Storm installation rather than in a global Windows directory. Microsoft documents this behavior in its DLL search order guidance.
The file is commonly described as a game audio or runtime library because of its name and location, but its exact developer, exported functions, signing status, and precise purpose are not publicly verified. Public file indexes list a 32-bit build of approximately 268.5 KB, but those listings are not an official authenticity guarantee.

Fix 1: Verify the Naruto Storm files
This should be your first repair, even if the file appears to exist.

- Open Steam.
- Open Library.
- Right-click NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 3 Full Burst HD or NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM Revolution.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Let Steam complete the scan and download any replacement files.
- Restart Steam and launch the game.
A successful repair usually means the error disappears and the game reaches its menu. If Steam reports that some files could not be verified, do not assume the repair failed. Local configuration files may be left unchanged. Restart Steam and test the game.
If the error returns immediately, repeat the verification once after restarting Windows. If the file is repeatedly removed, continue to the antivirus section before verifying again.
For a non-Steam copy, use the original installer’s Repair, Modify, or reinstall option. Do not copy a DLL from another computer or another Naruto Storm release.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an entry mentioning
nusound2_win.dllor the Naruto Storm installation folder. - Open the alert and review its details.
- If the file came from the legitimate, unmodified game installation, follow your security software’s restore or allow process.
- Run Steam’s Verify integrity of game files again.
Do not broadly disable antivirus protection. Microsoft notes that restoring a quarantined item can cause Defender to detect it again, so review the alert rather than assuming it is a false positive. Its Protection History instructions explain where these decisions are made.
If the file was downloaded separately from a DLL website, delete it instead of restoring it. The safe replacement is the copy supplied by Steam or the original game installer.
Fix 3: Repair Visual C++ and legacy DirectX components
A message naming nusound2_win.dll does not always mean that the file itself is missing. Windows may have found the DLL but failed to load a dependency required by it.
Full Burst includes legacy prerequisite installers in its redist folder. Open the game’s installation directory and look for entries similar to:
redist2012vcredist_x86.exe
redist2012vcredist_x64.exe
Run the x86 installer first:
- Open the game folder.
- Open
redist. - Open the Visual C++ 2012 folder.
- Run
vcredist_x86.exe. - Choose Repair if offered, or complete the installation.
- Restart Windows and test the game.
A 32-bit game generally needs the x86 Visual C++ runtime even when Windows itself is 64-bit. The x64 package can also be installed when the game includes it for supporting components. Microsoft explains the architecture distinction in its Visual C++ Redistributable guidance.
If the bundled installer is missing, use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 download. Install the architecture that matches the game, not merely the architecture of Windows.
Next, run the DirectX setup included with the game. If it is unavailable, Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer supplies older side-by-side components used by some games, including legacy D3DX, XInput, XAudio, and XACT files. It does not replace the core DirectX runtime built into Windows.
Do not remove newer Visual C++ packages to install the older one. Multiple runtime generations can coexist.

Fix 4: Repair Windows components only when other programs also fail
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They normally do not restore a private game DLL, so use them as a secondary check rather than the main fix.
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the Naruto Storm files again.
Success means DISM completes without an error and SFC reports that it repaired or found no integrity violations. If both commands report that Windows is healthy but the game still shows the same message, return to Steam verification and the game prerequisites. SFC and DISM are not substitutes for reinstalling nusound2_win.dll from the game’s legitimate source.
Repeatedly hunting through Windows repairs and runtime installers can be time-consuming when the actual issue is a damaged game folder. Fix 5: Update graphics and audio drivers
If the file exists, Steam verification succeeds, and the game still crashes, the DLL message may be incidental. Test the graphics and audio path next.
Update through Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click your graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Repeat the process under Sound, video and game controllers.
- Restart Windows.
For the newest driver, use the support page from your graphics or audio hardware manufacturer. Avoid driver packages from unofficial download sites.
Manually identifying old drivers across several hardware categories can involve repeated version hunting. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers, while installation through its full version is optional; a driver update is not a replacement for repairing the game files.
After updating, disable overlays and injectors temporarily, including Steam overlay, recording software, RGB utilities, reshade packages, and unofficial mods. Then launch the unmodified game.

- Disable Steam overlay for the game:
- Open the game’s Steam Properties.
- Open General.
- Turn off the Steam overlay option.
- Close recording tools, hardware monitors, injectors, and overlays.
- Temporarily remove unofficial mods.
- Reset the game to its default resolution and display mode.
- Start the game again.
If the game starts after removing an overlay or mod, restore those items one at a time until the conflict is identified.
You can also inspect the crash record:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
eventvwr.msc. - Press Enter.
- Open Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Find the error at the time of the crash.
- Note the faulting application and faulting module.
If the faulting module is a graphics driver, audio driver, overlay, or another dependency, nusound2_win.dll is probably not the root cause.

Why System32 and regsvr32 are wrong here
Do not place this file in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not general-purpose storage for application DLLs. Copying a game library there can create version conflicts and increase DLL loading risks. Microsoft describes these concerns in its DLL security guidance.
Do not run:
regsvr32 nusound2_win.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, typically COM or ActiveX components. A private Naruto Storm runtime DLL is not normally registered. The command may return an error stating that the entry point was not found, and it cannot repair a missing or corrupted game file. Microsoft documents the command’s purpose in its regsvr32 reference.

If reinstalling still does not help
Perform a clean test:
- Back up saved games if they are stored outside Steam Cloud.
- Uninstall the affected Naruto Storm game.
- Restart Windows.
- Install it again from the original Steam library or installation media.
- Do not add mods or overlays.
- Run the game once before restoring custom settings.
If a clean installation still fails, check Event Viewer and update graphics and audio drivers. System Restore should be reserved for a wider system change affecting multiple applications, not a single missing game file.
FAQ
Is nusound2_win.dll part of Windows?
No. There is no evidence that it ships with Windows. It belongs with the application that installed it, most directly the two documented Naruto Storm PC games.
