NVIDIA and MediaTek’s scaler partnership removes the need for a separate G-SYNC module in supported monitors, a manufacturing change NVIDIA says can reduce costs. It does not guarantee a specific price cut: the companies have not published a dollar savings figure. The partnership’s most prominent result is G-SYNC Pulsar, a motion-clarity technology introduced in 2026 on 27-inch, 1440p, 360Hz monitors with U.S. launch prices starting at $599.
What NVIDIA and MediaTek changed
Announced on August 20, 2024, the collaboration integrates NVIDIA’s G-SYNC technologies into MediaTek display scalers. A scaler processes a monitor’s video input and helps control its display. With G-SYNC integrated into that component, supported monitors no longer need a separate dedicated G-SYNC module.
NVIDIA said the integration would streamline production and reduce costs. That is a manufacturing rationale, not a published estimate of how much a monitor will cost less: NVIDIA did not quantify customer savings or provide a licensing-cost breakdown. The announcement therefore supports the prospect of more affordable feature-rich G-SYNC displays, but not a guaranteed discount against any particular model. NVIDIA’s 2024 announcement
What G-SYNC Pulsar does
G-SYNC Pulsar combines variable refresh rate (VRR), which synchronizes a display’s refresh with the graphics card’s output to reduce tearing, with variable-frequency backlight strobing intended to improve perceived motion clarity. NVIDIA describes its approach as pulsing independently controlled horizontal sections of the backlight in a rolling scan. The company says those pulses occur at 25% of a frame time and that Pulsar operates by default from 90 frames per second up to the monitor’s maximum refresh rate. These are NVIDIA’s technical descriptions, not independently established measurements.

- Samsung’s 32” Odyssey G5 QHD Gaming Monitor delivers brilliant visuals for exhilarating gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before.
- QHD resolution (2560 x 1440) boasts incredibly detailed, pin-sharp images.
- With a wide 178° viewing angle, the IPS panel consistently delivers crisp, clear hues from various viewpoints.
- 180Hz Refresh Rate and 1ms response time (GtG) allow fast reactions for ultra-smooth gaming, plus G-Sync compatibility syncs the GPU and panel to reduce choppiness, screen lag, and image tearing.
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadows for added depth.
NVIDIA characterized Pulsar in 2024 as providing four times the effective motion clarity alongside smooth VRR. In its January 2026 launch update, it said Pulsar can deliver more than 1,000 Hz of effective motion clarity; at 250 frames per second, NVIDIA describes perceived clarity as effectively four times the monitor’s refresh rate. Effective motion clarity is a vendor-described measure, not the monitor’s actual refresh rate: the launch displays’ native refresh rate is 360Hz. NVIDIA’s January 2026 launch update
G-SYNC Pulsar launch monitors and specifications
NVIDIA named three initial Pulsar models in its 2024 announcement. For the January 7, 2026 launch, it said displays from Acer, AOC, ASUS, and MSI would be available through select retailers. The launch monitors share the specifications below; the cited announcement does not provide individual model prices.

The $599 starting price is a U.S. launch figure, not a promised price for every model or market, and it does not show how much the scaler integration saved compared with a dedicated-module design.
How Pulsar differs from G-SYNC Compatible displays
G-SYNC Pulsar is not another name for every G-SYNC Compatible monitor. NVIDIA’s January 2026 update separately reported 63 newly validated G-SYNC Compatible displays, including the Samsung Odyssey G6 G60H, which NVIDIA described as the world’s first 1,040Hz dual-mode competitive gaming display, and 2026 LG TVs. G-SYNC Compatible validation is a separate category from the Pulsar launch models; the announcement does not establish that those 63 displays use Pulsar.

What to compare before choosing a monitor
Do not choose on the headline effective-motion figure alone. Match the display to the games you play, the frame rates your PC can sustain, and the image quality you want.
- For competitive play: Compare native refresh rate, your system’s sustained frame rate, motion clarity, and input latency. A 360Hz panel is most useful when your PC can produce high frame rates consistently.
- For general gaming: Weigh resolution, HDR brightness, overall image quality, and price alongside refresh rate and VRR. NVIDIA positions Pulsar for both competitive esports and immersive single-player games, but the trade-off between speed and image priorities remains personal.
- Across any shortlist: Check the VRR range, connectivity, ergonomics, and the exact model’s price and availability in your region. These details can differ by product and retailer; the shared launch specifications above do not establish them.
For the named Pulsar models, compare exact model listings rather than assuming that all displays from a participating brand have the same specifications or availability.

What is confirmed—and what the price claim does not prove
The announced scaler integration eliminates the separate-module requirement for supported designs, NVIDIA has named initial Pulsar models, and the 2026 launch update gives a U.S. starting price of $599. What remains unquantified is the actual per-monitor saving attributable to MediaTek integration. Without a like-for-like price comparison or published cost breakdown, buyers can evaluate the monitors’ stated features and asking prices, but cannot infer a specific discount from the partnership alone.
