Nvidia and MediaTek Team Up to Make G-SYNC Monitors Easier to Build

NVIDIA says its partnership with MediaTek moves G-SYNC technology into a monitor’s display scaler, removing the need for a separate dedicated G-SYNC module. That could simplify monitor production and make the technology easier for manufacturers to bring to market—but the companies have not quantified any resulting price reduction for buyers.

What changes with the NVIDIA–MediaTek partnership?

A display scaler is the monitor component that processes the incoming video signal and helps control how the panel displays it. NVIDIA says its new collaboration with MediaTek incorporates G-SYNC technologies directly into that scaler instead of requiring a separate G-SYNC module. NVIDIA first described the scaler integration in 2024 as a way to eliminate the separate module and streamline production; its CES 2026 announcement said the first G-SYNC Pulsar displays were built using the collaboration.

The distinction is about how the monitor is built, not a change to what G-SYNC does for a player. NVIDIA’s stated rationale is that integrating the technology into the scaler streamlines production and may help monitor makers bring G-SYNC displays to more consumers. The announcements do not establish how much manufacturing costs change or whether buyers will see lower retail prices.

Why was a separate module a drawback?

The separate module was an additional hardware requirement associated with G-SYNC monitors. NVIDIA says removing it can simplify production; that is the practical issue behind calling the partnership a fix for one of G-SYNC’s drawbacks. It does not show that every earlier G-SYNC monitor had the same cost, or that the module alone determined a monitor’s final price.

Samsung 32” Odyssey G5 (G50F) Series QHD Gaming Monitor
  • Samsung’s 32” Odyssey G5 QHD Gaming Monitor delivers brilliant visuals for exhilarating gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before.
  • QHD resolution (2560 x 1440) boasts incredibly detailed, pin-sharp images.
  • With a wide 178° viewing angle, the IPS panel consistently delivers crisp, clear hues from various viewpoints.
  • 180Hz Refresh Rate and 1ms response time (GtG) allow fast reactions for ultra-smooth gaming, plus G-Sync compatibility syncs the GPU and panel to reduce choppiness, screen lag, and image tearing.
  • HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadows for added depth.

In August 2024, NVIDIA said integrating G-SYNC into MediaTek scalers would eliminate the separate module, streamline production, and reduce costs. That is the company’s stated manufacturing benefit, not a disclosed per-monitor saving or an independently measured result.

What is G-SYNC Pulsar, and what does it promise?

G-SYNC Pulsar is the prominent announced use of the scaler integration. NVIDIA describes it as combining variable refresh rate (VRR) with variable-frequency backlight strobing. VRR adjusts the display’s refresh timing to the game’s frame delivery, while backlight strobing is intended to make moving images appear clearer. NVIDIA says the combination aims to improve motion clarity while retaining smooth, tear-free gameplay.

MediaTek identifies its MT9820 as a scaler with built-in NVIDIA G-SYNC Pulsar technology and claims “over 1000Hz (4x) effective motion clarity.” That figure is MediaTek’s description of effective motion clarity—not the monitor’s native refresh rate and not an independent test result. The launch displays’ stated native refresh rate is 360Hz.

NVIDIA also says the debut displays include Ambient Adaptive Technology. A built-in light sensor can prompt the monitor to adjust brightness and/or color temperature in response to room lighting. The announcements describe the feature, but do not provide independent measurements of its effect.

What should buyers look for?

The scaler change explains the manufacturing approach, but it does not by itself establish how well a particular monitor performs or what it costs. When comparing Pulsar models, separate the announced technology from the measurements and purchase details that matter for your setup.
