Nvidia promoted it as “Game Ready for ARC Raiders” and highlighted support and optimization for four games associated with DLSS 4: ARC Raiders, Pax Dei, The Outer Worlds 2, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.
It is not the latest Nvidia driver as of September 2026. It remains relevant if you need the launch-era driver for testing, troubleshooting, or a specific game configuration, but users already running a newer stable release generally should not downgrade to 581.57 without a clear reason.

What Nvidia driver 581.57 changed
Driver 581.57 was a WHQL-certified GeForce Game Ready driver. Nvidia’s release notes listed support for Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 and described the update as optimized for ARC Raiders and several other new DLSS 4 games.

Nvidia’s official material presents 581.57 as the recommended launch-period driver for ARC Raiders, not as a documented universal minimum requirement.

Games highlighted in the release

The four games should not be assumed to expose identical graphics settings or require identical hardware. Driver installation compatibility, DLSS Super Resolution support, Frame Generation support, Multi Frame Generation support, and practical ray-tracing performance are separate questions.
What ARC Raiders gets from 581.57
Nvidia described ARC Raiders as an Embark Studios multiplayer extraction game and positioned 581.57 as the driver for the best launch experience on supported GeForce hardware. The announcement specifically called out DLSS 4, Multi Frame Generation, and ray tracing.

Those features depend on the game implementation and the GPU generation. A GeForce product can support the driver without supporting every DLSS 4 feature. Likewise, a driver can expose a feature while the GPU still lacks the raw performance needed to use ray tracing or frame-generation features comfortably. Do not interpret “DLSS 4 support” as universal Multi Frame Generation support for every GeForce card listed on Nvidia’s driver page.
Nvidia did not publish independent, universal FPS gains for 581.57 in the cited release material. Actual results depend on the GPU, CPU, resolution, graphics settings, game patch, display, and whether the system is limited by rendering performance or another bottleneck.

These are fixes for the conditions Nvidia identified; they are not a promise that every crash, artifact, overlay conflict, or sleep/wake problem disappears on every PC. Game updates, anti-cheat software, shader compilation, Windows changes, and display firmware can produce similar symptoms independently of the driver.

Compatibility and laptop guidance
The package is listed for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. Nvidia’s supported-products list covers many GeForce RTX 50-, 40-, 30-, and 20-series desktop and notebook GPUs, along with older GTX and MX notebook products. The full list is more reliable than an abbreviated table in an article, so check the official driver page before installing.
Support for installing the driver does not mean support for every feature advertised in the release. Older GPUs may install 581.57 successfully while lacking DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation or other newer capabilities.

Laptop owners should be more cautious. Nvidia notes that the manufacturer may provide the certified driver for a particular notebook. OEM packages can be better suited to switchable graphics, custom display routing, firmware, brightness controls, sleep and wake behavior, and power-management software. If the generic Nvidia package causes a black screen, broken brightness control, hybrid-GPU problems, or sleep/wake failures, try the laptop maker’s driver.

Install it when:
- You specifically need the historical launch driver for ARC Raiders or one of the other highlighted games.
- You are troubleshooting one of the listed bugs.
- A benchmark, support guide, or reproducibility test requires version 581.57.
- You are on a supported Windows GeForce system and want the launch-period Game Ready tuning.
Stay on your current driver when:
- You already use a newer driver that is stable.
- You are not playing the listed games and have none of the fixed problems.
- You own an OEM laptop and have not checked the manufacturer’s certified package.
- You want better performance in an unrelated game without evidence that 581.57 helps it.
- You prioritize creator or workstation stability and use a Studio Driver workflow.
The main trade-off is the usual one for graphics drivers: a release can improve launch support for one game while introducing regressions in another game or hardware configuration. A historical driver should therefore be installed for a specific benefit, not simply because its release notes mention a newer title.
How to install it
- Confirm that the PC uses 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 and that the GeForce product appears on Nvidia’s supported-products list.
- Open the Drivers section of the NVIDIA App, or download the package from the official Nvidia driver-results page.
- Close games and graphics-intensive applications.
- Run Nvidia’s installer and follow its prompts.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Launch the game and verify its own graphics settings separately. Installing the driver does not automatically enable every DLSS or ray-tracing option.
Nvidia’s app labels and interface can change over time. If you are deliberately installing this older release in 2026, confirm the version number before proceeding rather than selecting the newest available package by mistake.
What to do if the update causes problems
- Roll back to the previous known-good driver through Windows Device Manager or Nvidia’s installer history.
- If the problem is limited to one game, reset its graphics settings and follow the developer’s procedure for rebuilding its shader cache.
- Disable overlays, especially Steam Overlay, while testing stability.
- If Smooth Motion is enabled, turn it off temporarily, particularly for Delta Force or games installed in paths containing Chinese characters.
- For sleep/wake or monitor problems, perform a full restart and test the display separately before assuming the game is at fault.
- On a laptop, test the manufacturer’s certified driver.
- Report reproducible driver problems through Nvidia’s Driver Feedback Forum, which Nvidia identifies as its channel for technical feedback.
A rollback will not fix every problem. Server outages, anti-cheat failures, game patches, shader compilation issues, and hardware faults can look like driver failures.
Bottom line
GeForce driver 581.57 was a sensible October 2025 launch-period update for supported Windows users targeting ARC Raiders, Pax Dei, The Outer Worlds 2, or Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, especially if they encountered one of its listed bugs. It was not a universal performance upgrade, nor did it make DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation available on every GeForce GPU. In September 2026, users already on a newer stable driver should normally remain there unless they have a specific compatibility or testing reason to install 581.57.
