It is roughly 35–45% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti in many conventional workloads, with a larger advantage in ray tracing and at 1440p. The RTX 4060 Ti remains the better fit for cheaper 1080p systems, compact PCs, and lower power consumption.
There are two RTX 4060 Ti models, however: an 8GB version and a 16GB version. The 16GB card has more memory capacity, but it does not have the stronger GPU found in the RTX 4070 Super.

The RTX 4060 Ti 8GB and 16GB use essentially the same GPU. The 16GB version does not double shader performance or turn the card into an RTX 4070-class product. Its main benefit is avoiding situations where 8GB of VRAM causes texture compromises, stutter or worse minimum frame rates.
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER
- Integrated with 12GB GDDR6X 192-bit memory interface
- WINDFORCE cooling system
- Graphene nano lubricant
- Protection metal back plate
RTX 4060 Ti 8GB
- Best for conventional 1080p gaming.
- Can handle 1440p with sensible settings and upscaling.
- More vulnerable to VRAM limits in newer, texture-heavy games.
- Only makes sense if it is substantially cheaper than the alternatives.
RTX 4060 Ti 16GB
- Useful for modded games, high-resolution texture packs and selected creative workloads.
- Can fit some local AI models or GPU projects that exceed 8GB.
- Usually delivers similar average gaming performance to the 8GB card when VRAM is not the limitation.
- Is poor value if priced close to an RTX 4070 Super unless 16GB capacity is essential.
How much faster is the RTX 4070 Super?
There is no universal percentage because results depend on the game, resolution, CPU, settings, drivers, ray tracing and upscaling. A reasonable broad estimate is that the RTX 4070 Super is about 35–45% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti in conventional gaming workloads, with the exact gap varying between titles.
TechPowerUp’s relative-performance database places the RTX 4070 Super substantially above the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB, while independent testing has shown the regular RTX 4070 roughly 28–30% ahead of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB in several tested scenarios. The RTX 4070 Super is faster still, but these figures should be treated as indicative rather than guaranteed for every game. Review results vary with test methodology; TechPowerUp explains its consistent test approach.
At 1080p
The RTX 4070 Super can be significantly faster, but an older or slower CPU may prevent the difference from appearing on screen. This is especially common in esports games, low settings and very high refresh-rate targets. The RTX 4060 Ti is adequate for many 1080p systems, particularly when the budget is tight.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →At 1440p
This is where the RTX 4070 Super makes the strongest case. Its additional CUDA cores, wider memory bus and faster GDDR6X memory provide more headroom for high settings, demanding engines and high-refresh monitors. It is the better choice for a new 1440p gaming build.
At 4K
The RTX 4070 Super can deliver light or DLSS-assisted 4K gaming, but neither card should be described as an unrestricted native-4K ultra GPU for every modern title. At 4K, the 4070 Super’s performance helps, while its 12GB memory capacity can still require texture or ray-tracing compromises in demanding games.

Ray tracing and DLSS
The RTX 4070 Super is the clear ray-tracing choice. NVIDIA lists 82 RT TFLOPS for the RTX 4070 Super compared with 51 RT TFLOPS for the RTX 4060 Ti. That extra throughput helps at 1440p, improves minimum frame rates and reduces the need for aggressive settings reductions.
Both cards support Ada Lovelace features including DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Frame Generation, Reflex, Ray Reconstruction where supported, AV1 encoding and NVIDIA Studio features. NVIDIA describes DLSS 3 as combining AI upscaling and generated frames using Tensor Cores and the Optical Flow Accelerator.
Frame generation increases displayed frame rates, but generated frames are not equivalent to conventionally rendered frames and do not provide the same input-response improvement. It works best when the underlying frame rate is already reasonably high. Always compare benchmarks using the same combination of native resolution, DLSS, ray tracing and frame generation.
Is 16GB on the 4060 Ti better than 12GB on the 4070 Super?
For most gaming, no. The RTX 4070 Super is normally faster despite having 4GB less VRAM. Its stronger GPU, 64% higher CUDA-core count, wider 192-bit memory interface and faster GDDR6X memory matter more when both cards can fit the workload in memory.
The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB becomes preferable when VRAM capacity is the hard requirement. A local AI model, rendering scene, texture pack or editing project that needs more than 12GB may run on the 4060 Ti 16GB but not on the 4070 Super. The trade-off is that the 4060 Ti may take longer to process the same task because its compute throughput is much lower.

Capacity and speed are different advantages. More VRAM does not automatically mean higher frame rates, and 12GB does not make the RTX 4070 Super universally suitable for native 4K ultra settings.

Power, size and system requirements
The RTX 4060 Ti’s 160W graphics power makes it easier to cool quietly and better suited to compact systems. NVIDIA recommends a 550W system power supply. The RTX 4070 Super is rated at 220W, with a 650W recommended system power supply.
NVIDIA’s reference RTX 4070 Super Founders Edition measures 244mm long, 112mm wide and two slots, but partner cards can be much larger. Depending on the model, the card may use a 12VHPWR or 12V-2×6-style connector, an adapter or a different arrangement. Check the exact product page for:
- GPU length, height and slot thickness.
- Required power connectors.
- Recommended PSU capacity.
- Clearance around front fans, storage cages and side panels.
- Warranty and return terms.
The 650W recommendation is not an absolute requirement for every configuration: CPU choice, PSU quality and the rest of the system matter. It is nevertheless the sensible baseline for a typical RTX 4070 Super build.
Content creation, streaming and AI
The RTX 4070 Super is generally better for CUDA-heavy applications, GPU rendering, video effects, timeline acceleration and faster exports. Its additional compute resources are more important than the 4060 Ti’s extra memory in workloads that fit within 12GB.

The launch prices are historical, not current recommendations. The RTX 4060 Ti 8GB launched at $399 in May 2023, the 16GB model at $499 in July 2023, and the RTX 4070 Super at $599 in January 2024. By September 2026, these products are primarily a discounted, used or existing-stock comparison, and newer GeForce generations may offer better value.
Use the live prices of the exact models available in your region:
- If the RTX 4070 Super costs less than roughly 35–40% more than the RTX 4060 Ti, it is usually the stronger gaming purchase.
- If the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB is dramatically cheaper and the system targets 1080p, it can still be sensible.
- If the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB approaches RTX 4070 Super pricing, choose the 4070 Super unless the workload specifically requires more than 12GB.
- Compare the full system cost, including a PSU, case clearance and possible cooling changes.
Before buying old stock, compare its live price and warranty with current-generation and competing GPUs. Do not assume a two-generation-old RTX 4070 Super is automatically the best deal.

- The price premium is reasonable and your case and PSU support the chosen card.
Verdict
The RTX 4070 Super is the better overall GPU and the clear winner for 1440p, ray tracing and creator performance. The RTX 4060 Ti is worthwhile only when its lower price, lower power draw, smaller form factor or—on the 16GB model—greater VRAM capacity solves a specific need. Do not pay near RTX 4070 Super money for an RTX 4060 Ti 16GB unless that extra 4GB is essential to your workload.
