Yes, NVIDIA really did bundle Black Myth: Wukong with select GeForce RTX 40-series products—but the promotion is over. Announced on July 9, 2024, the offer ended in August 2024, and all game codes had to be redeemed by September 19, 2024. NVIDIA’s promotion page now says the deal is no longer available.
That means buying an RTX 40-series graphics card in 2026 will not automatically get you a free copy of Black Myth: Wukong.

Why the promotion attracted attention
Black Myth: Wukong was one of the most anticipated PC releases of 2024. Before launch, Game Science described it as Steam’s most-wishlisted upcoming game, citing SteamDB. That was a pre-release ranking—not a permanent or current Steam designation.

Which GPUs qualified?
The bundle covered selected products, not every RTX 40-series GPU. NVIDIA’s published terms listed these desktop graphics processors:
- GeForce RTX 4090
- GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
- GeForce RTX 4080
- GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER
- GeForce RTX 4070 Ti
- GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER
- GeForce RTX 4070
Eligible laptop systems used one of these GPUs:
- GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU
- GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU
- GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU
The RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti were not listed among the eligible products in NVIDIA’s terms. Even for a listed GPU, the exact model, retailer, system builder, region and stock status could determine whether the bundle applied. A product described simply as “RTX 40 series” was not automatically eligible.
The promotion applied through participating retailers and system builders to qualifying graphics cards, desktops and laptops. NVIDIA’s official terms provide the complete model and regional conditions.
What buyers received
The reward was one Steam copy of the game’s standard edition. It was not a demo, subscription entitlement or automatic Deluxe Edition upgrade. NVIDIA also advertised the Trailblazer’s Scarlet Gourd cosmetic item.

The offer was tied to the qualifying purchase and subject to the promotion’s limits. It was not a general giveaway for everyone who already owned an RTX 40-series card, and it could not be exchanged for cash or another product.

Some partner pages displayed the purchase cutoff as August 19 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time because of how their promotion pages handled the deadline. In practical terms, the purchase window ended around August 19–20, 2024. The redemption deadline was September 19, 2024.

The original process generally followed these steps:
- Buy an eligible product from a participating retailer or system builder during the promotion period.
- Receive the promotional code from the seller, system builder or hardware vendor.
- Install and sign in to NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience or the NVIDIA App beta, depending on the instructions supplied at the time.
- Install the qualifying GPU in the computer being used for redemption.
- Select the Black Myth: Wukong promotion and choose Redeem.
- Sign in to the intended Steam account.
- Authorize the account link and confirm that the game had been added to the Steam library.
Redemption was region-sensitive. NVIDIA’s terms restricted the promotion to eligible countries and excluded China, Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela and Cuba. An imported card or overseas code was not guaranteed to work with a different NVIDIA or Steam region. Using a VPN to bypass regional restrictions could also violate promotion or platform rules.
Why a code might not have worked
Several situations could explain why someone who expected the game did not receive or redeem it:
- The exact SKU was not included, even though its GPU family was eligible.
- The retailer or system builder was not participating.
- The purchase was made outside the promotional dates.
- The product was used, refurbished, open-box or imported and did not include a valid promotional code.
- The code had already been redeemed.
- The NVIDIA, Steam or purchase region did not match the code’s allowed region.
- The qualifying GPU was not installed in the system used for redemption.
- The code was not redeemed before September 19, 2024.
- The game was linked to the wrong Steam account.
A buyer with a missing code could first contact the original retailer or board partner with proof of purchase. However, the redemption period has expired, so neither a replacement code nor a successful support outcome should be assumed in 2026.
Second-hand buyers should be especially cautious: an RTX 40-series card may have been eligible originally, but its promotional code may already have been used or may no longer be valid.
What RTX features did NVIDIA promote?
NVIDIA marketed the game’s support for full ray tracing, sometimes called path tracing, as well as DLSS and Reflex. These technologies were intended to improve lighting quality, image reconstruction and responsiveness on compatible hardware.
NVIDIA published the following performance targets:

These are NVIDIA’s published targets, not independent benchmark results. Actual performance depends on settings, drivers, CPU, memory, resolution scaling and game updates.

Should you buy an RTX 40-series GPU for this deal?
No—not in 2026. The free-game incentive has expired, and NVIDIA no longer presents it as an active promotion. Do not pay a premium for an RTX 40-series card because a listing, seller or old article suggests that Black Myth: Wukong is included.

Choose a graphics card based on the factors that still matter:
- Performance at your target resolution and frame rate
- Ray-tracing performance
- VRAM capacity
- Power consumption and power-supply requirements
- Warranty and return protection
- Used versus new condition
- Price compared with newer-generation alternatives
If you already have suitable hardware, buying the game separately through its official Steam page is the straightforward alternative. If you need a GPU upgrade, evaluate current hardware independently of this discontinued bundle.
The verdict
The headline was based on a genuine 2024 NVIDIA promotion. Select RTX 4090, RTX 4080-class and RTX 4070-class desktop products, along with specified laptop GPUs, could qualify for a standard Steam copy of Black Myth: Wukong.
