Nvidia’s RTX 60 GPUs may launch in the second half of 2027—but the date is still a rumor

Nvidia’s RTX 60 GPUs are rumored for the second half of 2027, but Rubin is only confirmed for AI and data-center products. Here’s what buyers should know.

Nvidia has not confirmed a GeForce RTX 60-series launch date. The second-half-of-2027 window comes from an unconfirmed leak, while separate reporting suggests Nvidia’s next gaming chip could face delays related to memory supply. A late-2027 release is plausible, but cards could arrive later—and the meaning of “launch” is not yet clear.

Nvidia has confirmed its Rubin platform for artificial-intelligence and data-center products, not a consumer GeForce RTX 60 family. Any Rubin connection, model names, specifications, prices, and retail dates for RTX 60 remain unannounced.

Where the RTX 60 launch rumor came from

Hardware leaker Kopite7kimi reportedly identified Nvidia’s future consumer GPUs as Rubin-based and gave a “2027H2” timeframe. Tom’s Hardware described the claim as a rumor rather than an Nvidia announcement.

That distinction matters. Nvidia has not publicly announced an RTX 60 product family, confirmed consumer Rubin graphics cards, published a model list, or provided specifications and pricing. The most accurate description is therefore: RTX 60 cards are rumored to launch in the second half of calendar 2027, but the timing is unconfirmed and could slip into 2028.

A separate report from The Information, citing people familiar with Nvidia’s plans, said the company’s next-generation gaming chip was originally expected to enter mass production near the end of 2027. It also reported that memory-chip shortages could delay the project. Mass production, however, is not the same as retail availability.

What Nvidia has actually confirmed about Rubin

Nvidia has officially announced Vera Rubin as a broad platform for AI and data-center computing. It includes multiple chips and systems and should not be treated as a single GeForce gaming GPU.

Nvidia’s 2026 annual review says Rubin platform production shipments are expected in the second half of fiscal 2027. That is an official forward-looking statement, but it does not confirm a GeForce RTX 60 launch in July through December 2027.

There are two separate timing problems here:

  • Fiscal year versus calendar year: Nvidia’s fiscal-2027 wording is not interchangeable with the rumor’s second half of calendar 2027.
  • Data-center platform versus consumer product: Rubin shipments for AI products do not prove that a Rubin-derived GeForce card will be ready for stores at the same time.

Rubin Ultra, where mentioned in future-platform coverage, is likewise a data-center reference. It should not automatically be interpreted as an RTX 60 gaming product.

What does “launch” mean?

The phrase can describe several different milestones:

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming OC 16G Graphics Card, 16GB 256-bit GDDR7, PCIe 5.0, WINDFORCE Cooling System, GV-N507TGAMING OC-16GD Video Card

  • Powered by GeForce RTX 5070 Ti

  • PCIe 5.0
  • WINDFORCE cooling system
  1. An architecture or product announcement
  2. A board-partner announcement
  3. Start of mass production
  4. A paper launch with limited stock
  5. Initial retail availability
  6. Broad availability at recommended pricing
  7. Laptop or regional availability

The “2027H2” rumor does not establish which milestone it refers to. Nvidia could announce products late in 2027 while broader retail stock arrives in early 2028. A report about mass production near the end of 2027 should not be presented as proof that consumers will be able to buy RTX 60 cards during that same period.

Why a late-2027 release is plausible

The timing would fit a longer-than-usual RTX generation cycle. Nvidia introduced the GeForce RTX 50 family in January 2025. The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 became available on January 30, 2025, followed by the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 in February.

A second-half-of-2027 retail launch would put roughly 30 months between the RTX 50 launch and its successor. That is a reasonable roadmap inference, not evidence of a fixed Nvidia cadence. The company could also stagger RTX 60 models rather than release the entire lineup at once.

Nvidia’s current official RTX 50 family includes the RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, 5070, 5060 Ti, 5060, and 5050. Its RTX 50 overview identifies the generation with Blackwell, GDDR7 memory, and DLSS 4-class features. Those facts describe the current generation; they do not confirm that RTX 60 will use the same feature set or naming.

Why the date could move

The clearest reported risk is memory supply and pricing. The Information linked possible delays to a shortage or rising cost of memory components. If accurate, that could affect GDDR allocation, board-partner costs, launch quantities, product segmentation, and final retail prices.

  • Powered by GeForce RTX 5060

  • WINDFORCE cooling system

This is a reported explanation, not a confirmed statement from Nvidia. Other general industry risks could also affect a future launch, including manufacturing yields, packaging or substrate constraints, board validation, driver readiness, laptop design schedules, changing product strategy, or Nvidia choosing to prioritize higher-margin AI products. There is no evidence in the supplied reporting that any one of these is definitely responsible for a delay.

What is known about RTX 60 specifications?

Almost nothing reliable has been established. The available evidence does not confirm:

  • CUDA-core counts or GPU die names
  • Manufacturing process
  • Memory capacity or bus width
  • GDDR7 or another memory technology
  • Ray-tracing or rasterization performance
  • DLSS version
  • Power requirements or display outputs
  • Prices, model lineup, or Founders Edition availability

Some coverage has mentioned a possible “GR20x” naming scheme. VideoCardz reported that rumor, but it remains unverified. Claims about products such as an RTX 6090, RTX 6080, or RTX 6070 should be treated as speculation unless Nvidia announces them or technical documentation independently confirms them.

A consumer Rubin GPU would also not necessarily use the same chip design, memory technology, board layout, power limits, or software features as Nvidia’s AI hardware. “Rubin-based GeForce” is a reported possibility, not a confirmed transfer of a data-center product into a gaming card.

Should you buy an RTX 50 card or wait?

The answer depends more on your current system and purchase deadline than on the rumor.

Buy now if:

  • You need a GPU for games, creative work, AI workloads, or a new PC before 2027.
  • Your current card cannot deliver the resolution, frame rate, or ray-tracing performance you need.
  • You find an RTX 50 card at a price you consider acceptable locally.
  • You plan to keep the card for several years rather than replace it immediately.

Nvidia’s recorded launch MSRPs were $1,999 for the RTX 5090, $999 for the RTX 5080, $749 for the RTX 5070 Ti, and $549 for the RTX 5070. Those are launch figures, not guaranteed August 2026 street prices. Check Nvidia’s official buying page and current retailer listings before purchasing.

Wait if:

  • You already own a capable RTX 40- or RTX 50-series card.
  • You specifically want a generational upgrade and can tolerate waiting beyond 2027.
  • You do not need a replacement system or GPU in the near term.
  • You are willing to accept uncertain launch stock, pricing, and regional availability.

Do not buy an expensive RTX 5090 solely as a temporary card if you expect to replace it soon after RTX 60 arrives. Conversely, do not delay a necessary PC build for more than a year based only on an unconfirmed launch window.

Before buying, consider your target resolution, ray-tracing use, DLSS and frame-generation needs, video-memory requirements, power supply, case clearance, cooling, creative workloads, local pricing, and expected ownership period.

Possible RTX 60 timing scenarios

Scenario What it could mean
Optimistic Nvidia announces RTX 60 products and offers limited retail availability during the second half of calendar 2027.
Base case Nvidia announces the generation late in 2027, with broader stock arriving in early 2028.
Delay case Memory constraints or another production issue pushes the announcement or retail launch beyond 2027.

These are planning scenarios, not leaked specifications or predictions of performance. The first RTX 60 model may also arrive before or after other models, and launch conditions could vary by country.

Bottom line

The second half of 2027 is a plausible planning window for Nvidia’s rumored RTX 60 generation, but it is not an official release date. Nvidia has confirmed Rubin as a data-center and AI platform, not as a consumer GeForce lineup. Until Nvidia publishes a GeForce announcement, buyers should treat Rubin-based RTX 60 cards, their specifications, prices, and timing as unconfirmed.

If you need a GPU now, buy a suitable RTX 50 card at a price and performance level that make sense for your system. If you already have a strong recent GPU, waiting is reasonable—but plan for the possibility that “late 2027” means an announcement or limited release, with broadly available cards arriving in 2028 or later.
