This is the archived New York Times Connections puzzle #632 from March 4, 2025—not today’s puzzle. Its four groups connect skin descriptors, types of hair mess, Dickens characters, and words that come before “chain.”

Hints for Connections #632

  • Yellow: Four words can describe how skin looks or feels.
  • Green: These words can each describe a mass or mess of hair.
  • Blue: Look for characters from the same novelist’s work.
  • Purple: Put the same word after each answer to make a familiar phrase.

Green: MAT, MOP, TANGLE, THATCH

Each can refer to a mass or tangle of hair. This grouping is less obvious because the words are not all direct synonyms, but they share the “mess of hair” description used in the archive.

Blue: BUCKET, PIP, SCROOGE, TWIST

These are Dickens characters: Mr. Bucket from Bleak House, Pip from Great Expectations, Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol, and Oliver Twist from Oliver Twist.

Purple: DAISY, FOOD, MOUNTAIN, SUPPLY

Each word comes before “chain”: daisy chain, food chain, mountain chain, and supply chain. The shared phrase appears after each answer, making this a reverse-completion category.
