Hints for Connections #738
Try these nudges before revealing the groups:
- One category describes weather that might send you looking for an umbrella.
- Look for different ways to say something is precisely or directly on target.
- Think about several things found in or associated with pods.
- In the last set, each word has a body part after one extra starting letter.
These clues are adapted from the archived hints at TechRadar and WordHint.

Why the trickiest groups fit
SQUARELY
DEAD, EXACTLY, RIGHT, and SMACK can each convey precision or being directly on a point: “dead center,” “exactly,” “right on the mark,” and “smack in the middle.”
CONTENTS OF A POD
This category uses different senses and associations of “pod,” rather than one kind of container. A pea grows in a pod, coffee is sold in pods, an astronaut may travel in a space pod, and a whale can belong to a pod.
BODY PART PLUS A STARTING LETTER
Remove the first letter of each word to uncover a body part: BARM contains ARM, LEAR contains EAR, RANKLE contains ANKLE, and SHIP contains HIP.

How to approach a Connections board
Connections asks you to select four words that share a connection and submit them as a group. For this board, the weather words and the words associated with precision offered possible early overlaps, but the pod category and added-letter pattern were less immediately obvious. Treat two- or three-word matches as tentative until all four words fit; after a correct group disappears, reconsider words that seemed to belong elsewhere. Try Hard Guides describes the puzzle as four groups ordered from easiest to trickiest, with up to four mistakes allowed.
TechRadar’s writer reported spotting possible weather and correctness overlaps before identifying SQUARELY and the hidden body-part pattern; he did not solve the pod group himself. That is the writer’s account of this puzzle, not an independent test.
